I have had 3 different deliveries in a single day- a letter on foot. Some parcels in a van and then in the afternoon some more parcels delivered by a man in a private car. The private car man is apparently a manager on his way home who is delivering some outstanding mail that has been sitting around (or found).
All these items are small packets, virtually all my stock I buy is small so nothing over 1kg or so and mainly in large jiffy bags or small boxes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. yes under the old system, which you obviously still have
the 'new' park & loop/shared van has one pair delivering everything0 -
yup but lets be honest
it will be some b@stardised version where some will be private and others(such as delivery) will be some PPI type monstrosity with UK Gov footing some good awful bill
if you have staff going to the door with letters,it really makes sense to at least send the small packets with the same person
eg with smal tracked that can go through a letterbox, its not really efficient to have a van driver going to the same door
Most of the letter mail I get are bills and junk, I could survive with only getting deliveries of them once or twice a week. If there was a system of a mail box just for letters that could work.
I know you'd know better but just from looking at our postman it seems that actual letters account for only a small percentage of the stuff he carries..0 -
It would need to have some good modern rethinking, so chances are that won't happen.

mail(as in all letters including 'junk') still make up the mass % of what delivery staff carry
packet traffic rises year on year. RM are happy to state this but their actions dont seem to support it
for example. got a call from someone at my old office today
packets have failed on many duties as theres not enough staff vs mail volumes today
the sequencing machines have failed and most mail had to be manually sorted(the MCs dont have the staff to address this)
theres still near 2 full duties to go out. thats about 1500 homes without a ail delivery yet
staff who can't/won't work overtime today were told they woud be made to return to the office every day and work to their time.(its an RM thing)
this is RM manager code for having a manager on your back all day, every day
bare in mind my old office is probably the busiest/most profitable in Edinburgh and most of Central Scotland due to the ize and number of large business customers in its delivery area.
yet the wont staff it0 -

I think I'm on the new park and loop/shared van system.
They tend to park outside my house, and I see one get out and then the driver drives off. The mail is delivered, the postie waits and then is picked up, and off they go.
I think the road opposite me is on a different loop. About 30 mins later, a van pulls up and parks on the corner, one postie gets out and does that road. But the weird thing is, this second postie sometimes has packets for me.
My husband thinks it's because I have so many things delivered, they have special arrangements for me! :rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

yes in theory park & loop is good
sadly it lacks a lot in implementation
we have just gone P&L where I live
talking to the postie,he paints a picture exactly as it was when we went P&L about 4 years ago
same mistakes,same problems etc0 -

What's the betting they will get greedy though by putting their prices up in the very near future.0 -
They will need a big increase in staff. Most of these couriers are part timers who get paid buttons per delivery. I doubt they will cope.0
-
mcfly, they work on a self employed basis which is good for myhermes - very quick to take on people on low wages, easy to bump them off as well, I'm no expert but I bet it's a really good formula for rapid growth.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise.
