The "working hard to develop support" bit surely refers to getting a static IP etc, not being able to use your own router!
I'm not so sure. When I specifically asked them if I would be able to continue using my existing third-party router, their response was 'probably, but we won't be able to provide any support'.

They never said they would offer "support", just that BE customers will be allowed to use them (and as you know they have supplied a useable login and password).

It would be unreasonable to expect them to offer support for third party routers.

The change is that up to the BE takeover you weren't (supposedly) allowed to use third party routers on Sky.

Well I can now report that that login/pasword does indeed work, and that I am now connected (albeit rather slowly at the moment). I omitted the step about getting DNS automatically from the ISP.

The only oddity was that after the BB switch seemed to have successfully completed, my landline was out of action for about an hour, and I was unable to make or recieve any calls (I was only switching BB to Sky, not my landline which remains with BT). Strangely since the landline has started working again it's much louder than before!

That thought had occurred to me! But dialling 100 gets me through to the BT operator, I assume that wouldn't happen from a Sky landline?

    Not sure (see here).

What happens if you dial 150 or 17070?

They both have a BT message. That's a relief! Thanks.

  • Well they have applied the credit to my online Sky account. They did a load of recalculations raising debits then credits which I can't understand but my account is now in credit. I have received a new router from them as well but was told I didn't have to use it if I didn't want to but if I did I would need to change my password etc. I haven't bothered to change it over yet as the O2 one is working fine for me. It is worth calling up and trying to get the £75 credit for broadband only.

Didn't you say earlier that you had £20 and then a further £50 credit ?

Just got a 'Confirmation of your payment details' email. The total monthly sum of £5.00 is correct, but the breakdown seems a bit odd:

Sky Broadband Unlimited with Broadband Subscription Discounted (standard price=£7.50) = £0.00

    Sky WiFi = £0.00

Supplement for not having Sky Talk = £5.00

Supplement for not having Sky TV with Broadband Subscription Discounted (standard price=£2.50) = £0.00

I've no idea why the £5 is attributed to the 'No Sky Talk' supplement?

Also no mention of the £75 credit, though presumably the fact that it states my first monthly payment will be £0.00 implies that there is some credit in place? (nothing shows up under MySky)
