So your speeds are the same as what Sky are predicting.
Assuming that you are already enjoying the 12m free O2 broadband, why would you want to switch over early to Sky?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If I switch over now, I have to pay for line rental at £14.50 and then nothing else plus I get sky tv family bundle for free for a year with a sky hd box and the broadband, free evening calls etc. It seems to me to be a better deal if I switch early. ATM I pay BT line rental (£15 approx) and £9.50 for broadband a month. I'm not getting free O2 broadband currently.

No free evening calls just weekend.
Also be aware if you want to migrate back to BT etc after your 12 months you will probably loose your number, have around 3 weeks without phone / broadband and £130 reconnection fee!

Sky are tempting me with an early switch offer by only paying by landline. How have people done if they have BB with O2 and phone line with someone else?

I've just received the sky offer letter. Problem is the offer ends 28th June but my existing O2 contract doesnt expire until 15th July. Called Sky twice now and they have been less than helpful.

In the past when I have called them to discuss transferring to them they have been all over me, real gift of the sales gab, but both times their representative appeared to have no interest in talking to me, certainly no wish to get me on board as a customer.

The last person I spoke to was quite rude. I asked if they could give me all the costs (e.g. caller display, evening & daytime calls etc.) so I could compaire with my existing service and he just said "what does it say on the letter". Well Sky your letter said so all about additional extras just the cost of BB and line rental, or what I actually get for that price.

Needless to say I've complained, but that leaves me wondering what to do come 15th July. Only options round here are Sky or BT. Never want the BT experience again, and Sky seem just as bad. O2 said I could sign up for another 12 months but I'm concerned that during that time if my service does swap to Sky and gets worse I won't be able to do anything about it as I will be stuck in a contract.

Be much easier to have two tins with a piece of string in the middle or some jungle drums!

Thank you bigwheeler, this is what I am looking for before I make the switch.
What reasons might there be that I would want to move back to BT for my phone line? Are you (or anyone reading this post) already with sky for their line rental? Apart from lisa701's experience of sky customer service, has anyone else had one that was more positive.

Unless o2's prices had hiked, I would never have switched as I am happy with their service so I am trying to establish if this is going to be right for me or not.

Then yes it may well be better to switch early.

  • My O2 contract comes to an end in July and due to the Sky takeover I decided to switch to Tesco. I am also an O2 mobile phone customer but I guess because they have no interest in keeping me as a Bb customer they were happy to let me walk ( I have haggled the price down on renewal on all 3 previous occasions) Problem is, the O2 mobile signal is rubbish in my area and the only reason I stay with the mobile is because of the mobile/BB/home phone discounted package so guess what......O2 need to be very careful...

If you pay the line rental in advance it works out at £9.95 per month (1 payment of 119.40). And don't forget the free £25 M&S voucher if you place the order online.
