I've been an O2 home phone and BB customer for a few years now. I've received several emails from O2 over the past few months to say its being sold/bought by Sky but thats all.

My contract expires on 15th July and I don't know what happens then. In the past it would have just continued as it was unless I contacted O2 to see if they had any offers and re-signed, but I don't have a clue who to speak to now.

Same here we just have broadband with o2 expires end of July, with BT for line and calls and sky for tv. Reason its all over the place we split the bills I pay the broadband. Would be easier to just go to plusnet to keep bills separate. But tempted to go BT for broadband to get sports channel which would be nice but not essential as Im not normally in at 12:45 on a Saturday when most of their games will be, or sky for a better deal, we have had sky tv for 15+ years and still have a standard box, so im sure I could get them to do a deal to include a free sky+ box, although I spoke to sky on webchat and he said id need to wait for the contract to finish with o2 first, which is odd considering they own the broadband.

how did u get half price line rental.

I didnt :) As the 3rd party didnt add my free tv and free broadband. They some how placed half price line rental for a year on the account! I didnt mention it and left it as it is. So getting free broadband, free tv and half price line rental with talk! Luck I guess.:)

If you change to sky line rental can you keep your home phone number or do you get a new number?

Yes, You most of the time you can. Sometimes Virgin Media customers arent allowed to. Also if your moving home, which isnt using the same exchange then you may not be able to. If your getting it for the same property you should be able to keep it.

Hope this helps. Click the Thanks Button if I have been helpful ↓

So far all the letters I've received from them say to continue to contact them as normal.

If your talking about the Free Sky Tv and Broadband offer? Then Yes, at first I did. They didnt apply the offer onto my account as I signed up via a third party company. Called them up and they fixed it. Bill for Tv shows £0.00. Broadband and telephone to be activated on the 5th June. This should also be free for 12 months and half price line rental. They told be its on the account so I will be waiting till activation.... I'll keep ya posted! :)

No. My 12 months free is the one offered by O2.

I think I know what happened:

I was offered the 12 months free, like many others, while still in contract and taking 6 months free with 6 months full price. If the contract hadn't been renewed, I would be due to start paying in full, this month, but someone didn't change the billing.

The amount billed didn't make sense, though, as full price was £14.50 (£9.50 with mobile discount) and the bill was £13 something.

I can't understand the taking of the amount billed, on Sunday, instead of on the announced date, but my bank says that the money hasn't been taken and my online bill is negative, consisting of the proposed billed amount and an amount I had refunded, as it was sitting in the account from when I took the free 6 months in January.

Obviously Sunday's billing person didn't undestand the system, but I'm going to leave things be, provided no money is taken from me.

After checking, I find that, instead of taking the money (not due anyway) on june 14th, they took it Yesterday!

I am very angry, as the excuse that my contract change/offer was made the day before the offer ended complicated things, does not make sense, especially as that was in April and it's now June.

Today's 'helper' (they don't give names) says he is trying to stop the payment being taking and will replace the money straight away , if it has gone through.

Am I the only person having this problem with the 12 free months ?

I have been having the same problem with the 12 free months

I was an 02 broadband only customer with the 'Home Broadband Standard' product at £14.50 per month and accepted the free broadband for a year offer. I have had to make successive phone calls over the past few months, each time in order to prevent a charge of £14.50 being taken from my bank account. That sum was likewise due to be taken from me on 14 Jun.

During my fourth call which I made today I was informed that the problem was due to 'a faulty promotional code' which failed to reduce my payments to zero. The suggested way to resolve the issue was to start, from today, a new free one years contract with the 'Works Broadband Only' product. I have accepted their proposal.

I was informed that this was in effect an upgrade--lets hope so.

Indeed it is, with higher download and upload speeds.

I seem to have the reverse problem. They applied the promotional code (-£18) twice, so, my account is credited with £18 more every month !
  • They have continually credited my account with -£18 since I started the free yearly service.

I rang at the weekend to straighten it out, will have to see this coming week if everything is sorted and I can now close the DD.

The only thing that bothers me is if this is all now sorted, my money is given back and I do close the DD that come the next payment timepoint, I'm going to end up with some "we are unable to withdraw X amount, please contact..."

Don't wish to leave in 9 or 10 months time trying to claw back my cash.

I boy have I been getting dropout/loss of internet at times, but that is a separate issue.

I called O2 yesterday. They told me that once my contract expires in July it will just continue as a rolling contract unless I choose to re-sign or leave. If I choose to re-sign Sky will have to honour the contract. He said the actual transfer to Sky wont start until September and will take up to 18 months.

Something makes me not trust this advice, how can O2 offer me a new contract if they don't actually own the business anymore? Surely any new contract I sign up for is actually with Sky? I'm just not sure they will honour anything.

My other option is to leave but with Sky or BT being my only options around here there isnt much to choose from. I left BT because their service was dreadful so that just means Sky.
