Sky buyout of O2 Broadband

This forum is brilliant. Told O2 I was leaving to go to Plusnet. Not only promptly offered the 12 months free but also moved to the more expensive unlimited package rather than the basic package I was on. They are also posting me a new better router box.
Was very pleased but decided to push it a bit further and said that as it was a new contract would they also give me the £50 M&S voucher they were giving new customers. He instantly agreed.
So did even better than anticipated. :j0 -
O2 currently have a deal on their website of half price for all packages of £6.25, and £5 off for o2 customers.
Quidco currently have a £100 cash back deal on all packages for new customer.
I just renewed a 12 month contract for the All Rounder package, I got it free of charge for the next year.
I think they are trying to keep customers before selling to sky.0 -
I believe Sky will only pay the full amount if a certain amount of customers stay and transfer over. So if everyone leaves, O2 won't get the maximum payment.0

Right up until they're offered a 12 months free deal to stay.
The theory, is that it is costing Sky money in the long run, I suspect that is how the staff have been instructed to sell it to those wanting to leave.
Though I entertain Murdoch in his penthouse playing his evil media baron role to a tee going:
"Morals, pah, I know they hate me, just offer them something free and we'll do the rest, for I am Rupert Murdoch, satanic multi-billionaire tyrant of the media industry, all cower before me. Go ahead, try not to avoid giving me your money, I own everything. A ha ha ha ha ha ha!"0 -
Murdoch is dangling his carrots and playing on peoples weak morals :rotfl:0

I am out of contract with O2 and still on the legacy package paying around £9 pm. I have an O2 mobile so i get a discount. I'm wondering if i stay with O2,what will happen to my O2 mobile discount and when?
I am currently minded to switch to BT as my phone line is with them and they do have a mega wireless network to pimp off.
I also have a virgin bit of wire in my house which potentially could be reactivated.
My needs really are only for a basic broadband service with no cap and decent throughput. Speed isnt an issue. I dont need any TV services either via the data link or via dish or cable.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

That was my view. Until I phoned them this morning and they offered me 12 months free plus £200 credit on my o2 bill. That’s not my money J
They must be really desperate to keep customers at that rate0 -
is the new 12 month free deal confirmed in writing or is it just a verbal agreement, also what are the penalties for leaving this new 12 month deal0

£200?... seriously lol. The credit they were offering was £100 last week but that offer has finished.0 -

You are on a good service, at a good price. There's no indication that Sky won't honour the mobile discount at present, so why not sit and wait to see what happens-it's going to be many months before anything is going to change. Or make the call to retentions and get a year free?
If you feel you must leave, then have a look at Plusnet rather than BT. Same network, better CS, and cheaper. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
