Sky are simply buying customers! Sky are only buying O2 consumer home broadband and home phone customers.

O2 wholesale will retain their wholesale network and customers, so only home broadband customers will be migrated over to Sky's network eventually.

I see. Like I said in the other thread, I hope Sky address their capacity issues before any O2 customers are migrated.

    This makes interesting reading

If the post about the line rental is correct and they are going to "discuss options", then for all non o2 phone line customers then you will have the option to break the contract. This will be a change of terms and something that they cant enforce on you.

If anything Sky will be breaking the contract with you and as a result you would be able to ask them for compensation.

While looking on Sky's website, I was invited to a webchat , so decided to ask a few questions.

I gave my name as Mrs ( my surname) and was addressed as 'Hi (surname)' which did not impress me at all.

I explained that I was an O2 broadband customer, who has a BT landline and was wondering about the position of customers like me, as Sky only sells broadband with phone and/or tv packages.

The reply was that Sky would inform customers of any changes, that I could still get my service from O2.I queried this, saying I couldn't see how thios could be, if we are to be 'given' to Sky.

The reply was a list of the unhelpful links we have all seen and an offer to take a tv package there and then.

I said 'No, thank you, Freeview meets our needs' and commented that the links didn't address the landline situation, so posed two questions on the lines of....

    1) Will O2 customers, who don't have an O2 or Sky landline, be dumped again, as Sky only sells broadband with tv or phone packages ?

    2) Or will they be charged massively inflated rates for broadband alone ?

The reply was 'You will have to have a Sky landline' , so I said I'd be taking my custom elsewhere.

Probably just an uninformed customer service agent. Hopefully though, they were right and the Sky landline issue will allow everyone who want to escape the opportunity to do so.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

This may be the case, though would have to happen either at renewal of your contract, (when you either agree or move elsewhere), or if earlier with some provision for you to get out of the contract without charge.

Whatever, wouldn't you be better crossing the bridge when you get there and having free broadband till then?

I believe all O2 customers will be migrated onto Sky LLU. Whether this happens over a certain period, or when contracts come up for renewal, it's not clear.

"After the completion of the deal - expected in April - Telefonica's consumer broadband customers will become Sky customers. "Post completion, O2 and BE customers will be migrated onto Sky’s fully unbundled network, supported by a nationwide all-fibre core, which reaches 84% of all UK homes," Sky said."

They surly will just have to maintain the current status quo as if they break the contract and don't offer service then you can sue.

They can't force you to have a Sky phone line so if that is a requirement then this is a change in the t&c and a break in the contract.

Maybe people should write to Ofcom to see if they can get something put into any deal that is done.
  • UPDATE:

Called back and apparently the person I spoke to was not up to speed on the 'new offers'...

I do not have an o2 mobile or landline and got the 12 months free added on. :T

Lets see what the future holds from March 2014 onwards...
I have enough money to last me the rest of my life... unless I buy something.

I'll make sure I'm within contract with BT for my landline, they can't force me out of that then can they??
