I renewed my bb contract in November. Called and asked for my MAC code and was offered the 12 months free only if I had an o2 number, which I don't.... Everyone I know with one is using their's for bb too!

Anyone offered this without an o2 number?
I guess they've made a note that they sent me the MAC code so no trying my luck with another worker?
Apparently, some did manage (shammyjack above, for ex). I wish they were a bit more consistent! At some point, when it's obvious that they seem to offer 12 free months to virtually everyone, you wonder why they bother to refuse in just a few cases!

Shammyjack said he did not have O2 home line rental. I'm assuming the previous poster meant an O2 mobile number for the discount although I may be wrong.

Just got the 12 months contract, free for 12 months.

And 100 GBP credit for my O2 mobile phone.

    BTW, my landline is BT.

    I told the O2 chap I love O2!!

    Also thanks to everyone here!

BTW, I've been on O2 pay monthly since 2006 and O2 broadband since 2009.

12 months free broadband and £100 credit on my O2 mobile account. Last September I signed up to extend my broadband contract for 12 months at half price and my line rental is NOT with O2.

They are clearly keen to keep customers and to have something left to sell to Sky. Too many folk leaving might be a deal breaker.

The advisor I spoke to mentioned that only about half the people who called were accepting the bribes to stay. Making my mobile, effectively, free for 8 months and free broadband for a year certainly was good enough to buy me off.

March 2014 will see my mobile and broadband contract both expired and I'll see what O2 and/or Sky are offering then, but it would have to be very tempting to get me to stay with Sky. Been there, done that and not at all keen to go back! Might even move my mobile as well as there would be no great benefit to then be staying with O2.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

I've just tried to save time by doing a web-chat whilst watching the football on my laptop but he said I'd need to call up.

Put a reminder in my phone to make sure I don't forget (busy day at work today).
  • if sky cannot offer the same contratural agreement of O2/BE then you should be abe to leave without penalty. to be honest sky would be nuts not to take the potential of O2's infrastructure network the reason for no fibre network with O2 and BE is because BT wont allow them to install a uncapped unshaped unbundled network in the exchanges and the talks process's fell through on the deal.

if be and O2 are taken over by BkyB and my original contract differed im off to a different supplier, fibre is due to be enrolled in my exchange in august so ill wait it out till i know more.

Has anyone got a legal expert to look over the contract or someone from a TV show to do this.

I certainly would leave if I could as it could be a long 9 months to see out with them otherwise. I want nothing to do with Sky and the poor service they provide.

why dont you phone up and get 12 months free

Once everyone is migrated onto Sky, I wouldn't be surprised if Sky sold off O2's infrastructure to offset against the cost of the acquisition. Then everyone gets the same service as existing Sky customers on the same exchange.

Hi, just wanted to report that I also successfully got the free 12 months (Home premium legacy package, 20MB, no usage limit), no question asked! I enquire about cancelling and the reply was not too clear (along the line of "it will depend on what Sky is deciding") but I'm not too bothered about it (hoping that we'll have the same quality of BB for quite a while). I also ask about the need to have a O2 mobile phone for the offer, and she said it's not needed any more. So, they are literally offering my broadband for nothing with no other conditions.
