So did you ask to get out or just give in at this point?

    Hi

I just got off the phone, saying I would like to move, I was told I am still in contract. Wait and see no point paying cancelation fees. I was offered nothing to stay :(

    I tried

how far were you into you o2 contract

    Yes, I have. :)
I renewed in December, today I used the 'Thinking of leaving' option, said I was unhappy about being shifted to Sky, Murdoch, etc ;).

I asked retentions guy "how did I go about leaving?"

I was instantly offered free 12 mths, bit of chit chat re. terms etc, pretended to think about it, then slowly accepted.

Many thanks for this. I was offered 12 months free which is showing already, although the contract end date hasn't changed.

Worth another go - try the 'I don't want to be Sky' route?
    Ask for MAC;)

My date changed, I also got an email confirming the £100 credit going on the mobile account. But tbh, this truly was my biggest problem as we had taken the mobile on the strength of the BB discount.
I won't stay with Sky at the end of the free deal but I can rest easy that they are getting none of my money;)

Don't want to teach you how to suck an egg!

(But he did his job and "retained" you by persuasion without the need to resort to the bribery the rest of us held out for!)

Agree with adandem that asking for the MAC code will send alarm bells ringing..wouldn't say no to 12 months free broadband even though I'm only a couple of months away till my contract expires.

Were you assured that the free 12 months was going to be fulfilled by O2 or you going to wake up in a few months time & find yourself on Sky??

    Thanks in advance..

Yes, I was assured twice that my service would continue exactly the same as now.

Sky are allowing up to 18 mths for the takeover to complete.

I was told that when my 12mths are up, if Sky are not in full control then I can either leave in the normal way, or continue as an 'O2' customer until the Sky takeover has completed.

NB, I believe that I read that there is a time limit on this free deal, so get phoning.

O2 retentions guy was helpful, very sympathetic (this deal is not available to them!) and seemed well briefed.

Contrast the way O2 are handling this with the way Orange handled the withdrawal of their free BB from their phone customers.

FYI, I'm on paygo and only renewed my BB back in December.

Call 08003800402, go through to 'thinking of leaving'
    Move along, nothing to see.
