Sky buyout of O2 Broadband
Comments

They seem to have toughened up on this as I've just tried with them (renewed my contract back in January) and they refused to let me renegotiate my package at all.
I was on the 6 months free offer and tried to get the 12 months free offer and they refused to let me change. Said if I got my MAC they would make me pay out my entire contract.
I expressed my concerns about Sky's service and Murdoch etc to the disconnections guy and he just fobbed them off stating that there will be no change in service or in contract terms and wont be for a long time (18 months) into the future.
Frustrating as all of you seem to have had success with this approach...0 -
Cheer up folks its not as if O2 are being bought by Talk Talk, and it was Telefonica who put the business up for sale to fund their 4G plans. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Phone again and speak to someone else. Did you go through the option for wanting to leave?0 -
Yes I got through to the disconnections team and told them that I was unhappy about the transfer to Sky. He then told me that nothing would change for the next 18 months as all of the technitions and systems etc would remain the same until then and that there was nothing to worry about as it was business as usual. He also aid Sky would have to honour the existing contract until it expired including the £5 a month mobile discount.
That line effectively blunted all of my main points of complaint about how the transfer to Sky would represent a reduction in service, so i tried the "I dont like Murdoch" approach. That didnt work, so I then just straight out said that I knew of others who had just renegotiated their contracts in the same circumstances and he said I could not do this and my options were to just stay as is on the 6 months free offer or leave and pay out my contract.
Will try again and see. Hopefully I wont get the same guy again. Not sure how many in the callcentre team today! He was having none of it....0 -

I had just put the phone down on o2 when you posted and I was offered 12 months without asking.
Excuse me if I take what you state with a shovel full of salt but a new member with 1 post, obviously signed up to post on this subject smells a bit of mischief making !0 -
No its a genuine post. I'm not from O2 I assure you. I'm just a normal customer like you trying to get the best deal. I've been a devoted fan of this site for years as its saved me loads and following these boards for quite a while and but never actually posted on them.
On the phone to them again now...will let you all know how i get on.0 -

Ringing the retention department to say you are unhappy with the sky takeover is a wasted call.
You talk to retentions because you want out! Then they attempt to retain a customer which is their purpose in life!0
