  • Purcy - I have put weight on from xmas and because I was on a very strict diet for our wedding, 4 months ago - have since let things slide!

AFM - I went to the doctors, registered as new to the area and got my first MW appointment on 20th January, only one time was left but it was after work so ideal for me, really pleased! I then popped to town and got some floaty tops for more space in anticipation.

This is our first baby, but my OH's sister lost her baby at 5 months during pregnancy so his family do worry. I have been looking into paying for an early scan at 7-8 weeks, it's £100 but I'm not sure if it'd be worth it or whether my OH would want to. Hmmmmmmm

  • The doctor was great, she has issued me a prescription for all the medication I am meant to be taking, and has referred me early to the midwife, at 7 weeks, so she can refer me for an early scan at the epu, for reassurance. I confessed to her I had started a gluten free diet a few months ago after my mum was diagnosed with celiacs, and she has told me to continue with that for now, and will talk to me about a proper diagnosis when it is safer to do so- she even offered to refer me to a dietician.

(I really couldn't face any more tests, and after reading that symptoms of unmanaged celiacs can include miscarriage, as well as having a lot of the other symptoms, I decided to try it as an experiment).

I had ordered three pairs of skinny jeans from Oasis last week in their sale- they came today and they're gorgeous, but I am wondering how I can justify keeping them when hopefully they won't fit me for long!

Alipops, £100 seems like a lot of money doesn't it? If I can't get an early scan on the NHS I am definitely going to book one privately, I had a mmc at 6 weeks and we found out at our 12 week scan appointment, and I really don't want to go through that again. I persuaded my best friend to book one, she was 10 weeks pregnant last Christmas and was preparing to tell her family, so went and had a private scan to check all was well before breaking the news. Thankfully, all was fine and I was playing with her 5 1/2 month old baby yesterday :)

Congratulations any name, really hope this is it for you, the help of your doctor sounds promising, so pleased for you :)

Alipops it depends how much £100 is to you but to me my early private scan was totally worth it, the picture of my bean at 7 weeks is still my most treasured possession even though she was just a little blob but words can't describe the happiness at seeing that little heart flutter x

I am another one needing to get the floaty tops! I am busting out my shirts both boob and tummy wise! :p

I finally got round to ringing doctors today thinking I will just be able to book in with midwife (as it appears on the website from my doctor) but nope I have to see doctor! So booked in at doctors on Thursday when I will be 7 weeks who will then refer me to midwife, will tell him I want to use the other hospital so hoping he will refer me straight to them!

Going to be such a relief when I can tell work why I need time off for appointments as my boss can be an !!!!...... although not looking forward to telling him I am pregnant either......:o

  • Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.
I can't remember who asked but I've told mine & OH's parents, my brother & the 4 people I work with (including my boss). I've also told my 3 best friends as I felt I wanted to share this with them just in case I had another mc.

Today was a disaster for me. Got up, had croissants for breakfast, took down all the Xmas decorations then felt rubbish by noon. Went back to bed & slept until 3:30pm but woke up feeling so nauseous. Still haven't actually been sick & the 'sick' feeling is finally starting to pass.

Hoping I feel better tomorrow so I can get caught up on housework!

I have my scan next Friday. My mum doesn't know about it, so I an hoping I can surprise her with a scan pic if all goes well.
  • Thanks everyone for your advice, DH has said if I would like one for reassurance then to book one. He's cool with whatever I choose. (Altho I think secretly he'd like to have one!!). Is 7 weeks a good time to be able to see the heart etc of the baby?

I'm dreading telling my boss. I work in education, been there nearly a year and we're trying to turn the place around and now I'm going to be off most of next academic year! Fortunately, due to my dates I'm actually making the most of the maternity pay and time off with the baby, not sure my Head will see it that way.

I want to keep the pregnancy on the quiet for a bit, but going from skinny (I was on a diet for my wedding dress 5 months ago) to a fair porker is already raising eyebrows and I've had someone ask me if I was pregnant before I actually was!

Symptoms have calmed down a bit today, I am hoping I might actually be able to sleep tonight!

  • Alipops my oh didn't want to pay for a private scan. His theory was he didn't want to pay to receive bad news. My point was if it's bad news I'd rather know sooner than later.

But when I rang the local hospital's early pregnancy clinic they gave me an early scan appointment purely because I mentioned a prev mc.

If you can afford its would go for it! When I was looking at some clinics, earliest they recommended was 7+3

Good luck & keep us posted :D

Just back from the hospital I was terrified as it seemed to take her ages to find anything but then she found one little bean with a strong heartbeat in the right place measuring right for my date of 6+4. So so happy and DH got to see the heartbeat before me as she had the screen angled away from me. Such a relief to see that flicker on the screen I've only just stopped crying!
  • Congratulations purcy. It must have been such a relief. X

I hope everyone managed a relaxing christmas?

Sorry to those who have bowed out since I was last on, and fingers crossed to sticky beans to those who are concerned.

I've had a terrible week regarding hospitals etc, but I shan't worry you here... now i've been re-dated after my scan I need to move to the other board.

Hope to see you all there soon x
