When I told my mum the other week it was like I'd told her I'd booked a holiday or something, she was pleased but didn't get over excited. Mind you it is her 4th grandchild and she has 3 step-grandchildren as well, so it's probably like an everyday occurance to her lol.
OHs mum was delighted as expected, she has been told not to tell anyone and she won't - except she wants to tell her best friend at work, who doesn't know us or the family so that's fine I suppose. She knows not to plaster it on Facebook until the baby is here. She'll also be available to help once the baby is here, unlike my own mum who is swanning off on an extended holiday about a month before the bean arrives and won't be back until well after bean is born. To be fair to her though, she had planned this before I announced I was pregnant, so I don't hold it against her, luckily we have a lot of other family around (well within a half hour drive) so there'll be plenty of people to help out if needs be.
The only other parent to be told is my Dad, but he lives hundreds of miles away so he can wait til I get to 12 weeks, unless he happens to come visit us prior to that.
With the exception of the close friends who will be at the meal next week that's it for the announcements now until 12 weeks.
I got the opposite response to you robots from my grandma when I announced I was expecting DS1, she said well it's about time I was worried you were leaving it too late - I was only 31!0 -
robotsindisguise I am using the pillow right now
It is mega comfy! And the good thing is it doubles up as a feeding pillow once the baby is born so I feel like we're getting our moneys worth (a good thing as it was £46.....we did originally go to TK Maxx to try and get a cheaper one but they didn't have any and in the end OH got so fed up he just took me to Mamas and Papas and brought me the pillow brand new
)
It folds into lots of different positions which is good. It's got some really good reviews as well.
vickyvics sorry to make you greenIf you don't want to splash out they do have them on Ebay....it's just with me I woke up with such horrendous back pain this morning and I really didn't want to have to wait any longer to get one. My best friend was going to pass hers down to me but when she went to look for it, her husband told her he'd thrown it out!! (Cue major domestic)
Good luck for your scan tomorrow.....I'll be rooting for you!! *good luck dance*
Yes reactions from parents & family wasn't as I expected either really. I don't have contact with my family (my choice) so it was just OH's family but his parents were shocked I think and they just said 'oh that's nice' and carried on watching the TV! Of course a couple of days later when it finally sunk in, they were happy for us and majorly excited now! My OH's gran upset me a little, we went down for the weekend to stay with her to tell her and her first reaction was to say 'oh well' (as though it was bad news) and then she went 'maybe it's a false alarm' (really made me feel great as due to my medical problems I never thought this would even happen. So it was a little upsetting, but they all seem really pleased now.
My family will be the big problem - once they catch wind of it (I have contact with one of my brothers only who I told this weekend) they will probably try to make contact which is worrying me. I estranged myself from them just under a year ago for various reasons (they are an extremely unpleasant bunch....well it's just my mother and my youngest brother who are the problems but my family is so small that's pretty much all of them anyway) and I don't quite think I'm ready to try and have a relationship with my mother yet but I know she will become obsessed with trying to be my best friend again once she finds out. Argh - just trying not to worry about everything but it just seems to happen!!!
My two best friends and my boss were thrilled for me thoughOur first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

* i am 32! So I'm not sure at all how she thinks that's "too young"!! :rotfl:
Lol we sort of got that a bit from my OH's parents but with us it was more 'oh I thought you were going to wait until you'd brought a house'. I don't quite think they get the fact that I'm 28, my OH is 30, and in July we were told by my consultant that I might not ever be able to have children.....even though we have told them that's what we have been told! It's like they expected us to just wait for the perfect time even though we might not ever be able to have a chance....!!Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

Love all the "telling family" stories.
With us close family knew that we were having ICSI and some knew the dates and knew when we would be testing-I told my mum that our test date was a few days after I was doing it, so there was still a slight element of surprise there. Not surprisingly, my mum was totally hyper and delighted and my dad was a wee bit more subdued, but quietly chuffed to bits. My dad is still a bit perplexed by the whole ICSI thing, he thinks that we should be enjoying the life we have as we are a little bit older and I have brought up the teenager on my own for most of his life. However, as he sees my bump growing and becoming a wee person he will get more excited, he is a brilliant grandad and just loves babies. I'm a bit of a daddys girl, and love seeing the relationship that my dad and son have-it brings a wee tear to my eye.

Just deluding to say that you do get downs testing if you want it in Scotland, it's called CUBS - combined ultrasound & blood screening. Results come back simply as high or low risk, not as a ratio. I had mine as part of the 12 week scan0

good luck Vickyviks - Ill be looking for your update later
Im feeling rough - got a horrible cough that keeps catching in my throat and making me feel sick. (Have been physically sick). Add to that my car which is less than 18 months old wont start and that I was up for 2 hours again in the night (seems to be happening every night at mo - I get up to go to loo and that's that.) and Im not feeling great!

I can't believe today has actually arrived. So nervous about it. DH has gone to put in a couple of hrs work before our appointment at 12.00. If everything goes to plan I will have a little go at putting a scan picture into a post when we get back.
13+1 weeks today!!0 -
Good luck later vickyvics!!!0

Hi to any new mums to be!
Hope your scan goes well today VickyVics!
We told our parents/siblings yesterday and got the reaction we expected, well after they realised what we were telling them! We did a slideshow of pictures from our honeymoon and put the scan photo at the end and none of them got it!
My MIL cried, my Mum was very excited, my sister can't wait to be an auntie and my FIL did the manly response of 'well done'!
The nausea has progressed on to actually being sick which I really hoped it wouldn't - I have a big phobia of vomiting! Has thankfully only been once a day so hopefully it doesn't get any worse!
