Congrats and welcome to claretsgirl, Decembergirl and adrenalina!
Adrenalina so sorry to hear you're going through stress. Personally I would always choose to share that with my OH - even if you want to keep it from him to save him the stress, he is bound to pick up that something's not right and it will cause you both stress. So that's why I would tell him. It also gives him more time to deal with the news and the sooner he knows the sooner he can support you through all your worries.
It would surprise me if with your age they don't do the downs tests, hope that doesn't come across as rude but you know what I mean - with increased age comes increased risk I think (I am a bit clueless though!) I think if you were really concerned they should do it but I don't know the nhs in Scotland.
Though if they choose to do the blood test instead if it is an effective test for it (again I'm a bit clueless about what method they use for what), you might just have to suck it up with the needle hate......sorryOur first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

Congratulations to new bfps
Adrenalina im 38 (will be 39) and we dont get the nuchal fold test in Wales. When asked why was told it just too expensive. From my understanding with that method of testing they combine scan results with blood test so you would still need to have jab! I came back on triple test as high risk for downs 5 years ago I didn't have amnio and result ruined my pregnancy ( baby fine:)) not having triple test this time as its justnot accurate enough if nuchal was here I would have that.
I went out tonight and drank becks blue (non alcohol beer) noone guessed I wasn't drinking:)0 -
Welcome newbies
I have had a lovely day of lounging about. My brother, sil, toddler niece and baby nephew came to visit today-they didn't even comment on the fact that I was snoozing on the couch and still in my jammies in the middle of the afternoon-I love my family.
I'm beginning to get excited/anxious about my booking appointment and scan on Thursday, I'll be exactly 11 weeks then, so really looking forward to the scan being much clearer that it was at 7 weeks.
Time for bed again!0 -
Just dropping in to say good luck to those having scans next week! I will be lurking xx3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

I find that pretty surprising they don't do it in Wales due to costs - perhaps that's where all the English hospital parking fees are going to!
as isn't that free in wales?
I think they do it in Scotland but if your hospital didn't, private clinics will Adrenalina.
But remember the test doesn't give you a definite yes or no, just a number which indicates the risk.
If you had a high risk result come back you'd need to decide whether you were prepared to do an amnio with risk of miscarriage, or pay around £500 privately for a non invasive test. Or just see what happened and not take it any further.0 -
Yep we get other stuff like free hospital parking
and free prescriptions but not nuchal test. You would have have thought tests would be standard!

Welcome adrenalina. I'm in NW England so I don't know about how things work in Scotland. I'm a bit hazy about how it worked when I had DS1. I think they tried to look at the neck fold at the 12 week scan but DS1 was not playing ball and would not get into a suitable position despite a bit of gentle prodding. He just appeared to get angry, fling his legs into the air and bang them down - which was really funny to watch. So then I had to have a blood test at 16 weeks (I think) which it appeared to me they were trying to talk me out of because I'd said I was keeping the baby irrelevant of the results, but I insisted they went ahead as I wanted to be prepared if the baby did have Downs.
I can understand you not wanting to tell your husband because you're worried about not causing him stress, but if it was me I would tell him, the later you leave it the less time you have before baby comes and if that's going to stress him out it's better he has longer to prepare. Also, I wouldn't want to be lifting boxes at any stage of pregnancy, so I'd tell him for that reason too.
Good luck at your scan tomorrow VickyVics0 -
Welcome to all the new ladies and their BFP's - congratulations!!
Not much to report from me, had an extremely lazy pj day yesterday but managed to stay awake past 10pm so maybe it did me some good! Need to be a bit more productive today to get some stuff done because it just doesn't happen in the week! I guess that would have to start with getting out of bed!!
Been invited round to the soon to be brother in laws for dinner this evening but I'm just so nervous about eating away from home because I'm so picky and feel sick with even the smell of most foods. He knows I'm pregnant and suffering with sickness but I still feel rude not eating what's put in front of me you know?
Have a happy Sunday everyone, we are remembering a couple of fallen friends due to the atrocities of war today.

Cold pizza that I was too full to enjoy last night is definitely an acceptable breakfast. It's completely homemade and DH is wonderful at making them!
Actually kept count of how many times I went to the loo last night. Went to bed at 9:30 pm, got up at 9 am. Went 8 times if you count the one I did immediately upon getting up. How much do you want to bet that they will keep jabbing me and testing me for diabetes, even though every time they thought it was that earlier they've been surprised at my perfect results!
Also, belly is definitely stretching. Feels like someone is poking me right below the belly button. Feels kind of like when your eyelid goes into a spasm. Doesn't hurt, just feels weird. I know it's just stretching and not the baby, it's far too tiny to be poking me yet!0
