Hi everyone - I really hope you don't mind me barging in on your thread to ask advice...I tend to lurk here anyway as I'm hoping it will be me soon
Anyway, I live on the waiting to TTC thread because my husband and I are planning to start trying in January. I wanted advice from ladies who know what they are talking about - would it be crazy to book a holiday in April? It will be our one year anniversary and we wanted to go away particularly as if we do get pregnant, opportunities for holidays will be limited in the future!
Part of me thinks it is a bit risky in case I am pregnant and having terrible morning sickness or something - but then most of me thinks that chances are I won't even be pregnant yet by April if we start trying in January so it won't be a problem. (We can't wait until nearer the time as would be booking flights using a voucher that you need to use quite far in advance.)
So again I really hope you don't mind me asking but - what would you do? As ladies who are currently less than 12 weeks pregnant, as I could possibly be in April (though I just have a gut feeling it is going to take us ages, for some reason) - would you go on holiday at the moment? Would you fly?
Thank you so much in advance and again I really hope you don't mind me posting in your thread very briefly. Congratulations to those who have recently had happy scans and I wish all of you healthy and uneventful pregnancies!0 -
Hi Daisiegg- I'm butting in from the 12-24 week thread but I'd say go for it! We booked our holiday back in March and I got pregnant in June. Just got back on Sunday and I was 19 weeks; the only things I'd say is look to go somewhere not too hot and very relaxing, possibly with a decent health care system for peace of mind (a colleague's daughter sadly MC in Turkey and she said that the hospital there were excellent and was actually a lot better than the hospital at home) also might be a good idea to go somewhere where you know the food will be OK for a delicate stomach as you could be feeling nauseous in the first 12 weeks and off certain foods, there's also the list of no-no foods to consider so brie and pate would be out of the question! Also make sure you take out good travel insurance just in case you are too poorly to travel (unlikely, but always worth considering as it unfortunately happened to Claire who's recently graduated from this thread).
IME, don't let TTC get in the way of your life, last year we booked a holiday to Disney World the whole time thinking that I'd be pregnant and useless whilst we were there and we'd have been wasting money but I *didn't* get PG before going and I'd have been gutted if I'd missed the opportunity for such an amazing holiday on the off-chance that I could have been anything up to 5 months PG for it.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -

I would agree with go for it!
We went ti France a few weeks after I got my BFP. Only down side was that I was restricted in terms of wine & cheese! I would say just be aware that you might be really tired so not able to do as much as you normally would if its a sightseeing/walking/active type holiday. I found I had to have regular afternoon naps! I guess it also depends on if you suffer from morning sickness but you won't know that until you're pregnant so I'd be inclined to go for it and adapt to suit if you need to closer to the time.0 -
Birdie had good advice daisies egg.
Don't put your life on hold book your holiday.
And take out Columbus travel insurance as I can confirm they pay out if you get bad morning sickness and can't go like meI couldn't leave my house let alone the country lol

Thank you very much
My mum keeps filling me with dread as she had hyperemesis gravidarum when pregnant with me and spent the first trimester in and out of hospital. She is absolutely convinced I will be the same when pregnantI on the other hand don't think it is genetic, and she was fine in her subsequent pregnancies!
We were planning something relaxing on a beach somewhere, probably Caribbean or something, so hopefully even if I am tired and nauseous I can just lie around all day!
Thanks very much againllaurablue, I remember you from the weddings board - my venue buddy! Congratulations on your pregnancy
I wonder if you are the first from th March/April thread?!

Congrats Sophiasmum! Fabulous to see you over here too! Can understand how nervy you must feel. It seems such a long time to wait right now. We are considering booking an early reassurance scan at 8-9 weeks - has anyone else had these?
Hey becs - yes, we did, both in this pregnancy and in my first. We paid for a private scan at about 8.5 weeks. Both cost just under £100 and in both cases, I hadn't had any bleeding, extreme pain or any sign that anything could have been wrong. I just wanted a little re-assurance that so far everything was going fine. It gave me a little peace of mind. I know that there's no guarantee even now going into the 12 week scan but at least I know that at 9 weeks, everything was going fine.
daisiegg - Absolutely book it! It took me 18 months to conceive my first so we had 3 holidays to the USA & Canada in this time. Who knew it would take so long to conceive! I'm not 100% sure I would have wanted to travel once I knew I was pregnant, so we booked these holidays only a couple of months before going. That said, we could easily have fallen pregnant right after booking them. As someone else said, stick to places where the food & healthcare is decent. Book travel insurance right after booking to give you protection right away....I'd go for it.....TTC #3..........0 -
Thanks twigpig - I think we will do the same - 12 weeks is SOOOOOOO long to wait. Good luck for your 12 week scan. x.0

Just a quick question;
When did you all have your 1st midwife appointments
I've got mine on 11th October when I'll be 7 weeks 6 days
Does this sound about right? xx0 -
I had my first midwife appointment at 8 weeks spot on chelsea blue
Twigpig, I know gilly and ro too but don't think we are in the same group. Definitely remember you from the boards though
So, had my doctor's appointment. Turns out my thyroid is under active and I need to see the consultant and endocrinologist quite urgentlyI'm definitely going to need consultant led care so no water birth for me (gutted about this) and more than likely medication for the rest of my life. Not a huge surprise as all the women in my family have thyroid problems, but they're mostly under active. Apparently pregnancy can be a trigger for thyroid problems and although mine is currently overactive, with my family history it will more than likely end up also being under active like my mam, sister, aunties and cousins
Interestingly, my doctor thinks my hyperemesis could be linked to this so if we can get the thyroid under control, my sickness might reduce. Silver linings and all thatMammy to 2 boys aged 5 and 20
