That's a lovely pic optimistic-mummy, I am expecting a bump a bit earlier 2nd time around too, I didn't have one at all until around 6 months with DD (although my hips did get wider much sooner)
Midwife appointment booked for 19th June: I'll be 10 weeks then so expecting that my scan may be a little delayed. ETA: I see most people are booking in around 10 ish weeks, I'm sure I was only 6ish last time, but it's reassuring that it may not delay scans etc
BigZippy an 8 week scan isn't usual here, but perhaps it varies from place to place. We have a 12 week and a 20 week scan. The first scan is at 12 weeks because that's when they can do tests like the nuchal measurement accurately. Still, 3 scans would be lovely - 3 chances to see your baby! (we also had a private 3D scan with DD and would highly recommend, had it done at 30 ish weeks and it was wonderful)0 -
Optimistic mummy - currently I know about 7 people that are pregnant...i'm about 4 weeks behind a work colleague and 8 weeks behind a good friend (neither of them know about my news yet though)
Mincepie - I will be seriously considering a late 3D scan this time...I've heard it's an amazing experience. Can't imagine it really!
I think they do scans in my area anywhere between 10 and 14 weeks xAddicted to MSE0 -
Evening ladies. Nice pictures from you guys
So had my first midwife apt today which took a while! Forms, forms and more forms. She took 4 tubes of my blood! Hopefully the tests will come back ok. OH took me out shopping for lunch after as a treat, because I have never had a blood sample taken before and he said I was very brave :rotfl:
One thing I did find a bit odd was she was encouraging us to get married quickly, before the baby arrives, as it gives the Dad more rights? I didn't understand that very much, but she just said when it comes to the birth certificate and things like that. Bit strange as I would have thought OH had the same rights if we married or not. Now OH wants to run off and do the deed in some cheap registry office so he has his rights
According to GP I am 8 weeks today. They will be contacting me at 11 weeks to book my scan for 12 weeks.
It's getting hard hiding it from work as I'm always feeling sick / not acting like myself. Will have to hold out for another month or so yet. Hopefully it will fly by

Lippy: how odd, it's upto you whether you are married or not?! I think we looked into this last time and it didn't make much difference?
Lovely scan Abis can't wait for mine!
Optimistic: this is my second baby and I've been 'showing' since 6 weeks. It's been difficult as we wanted to keep things quiet due to mc/ issues but thankfully I'm 11 weeks now and only the DH is saying I have a gut on me! I didn't show until 8 months last time and even at full term some people didn't think I looked pregnant! By the time I was overdue I was huge!
Hope everyone is ok. I'm still feeling quite rough, lots of sickness and tiredness.Trying to save for a deposit

What an odd thing to say, I've never come across midwives getting involved in such things!
Saying that, I'm pretty sure that if you're not married your OH will have to go with you to register the birth, or they won't put his name on the birth certificate (because I guess you could name anyone as the father without their consent - hypothetically). However, if you're married it just needs to be one of you (although both can go obviously).
Also, wrt parental rights, mothers get these automatically, fathers also do if married to mothers or if named on the birth certificate. I believe it used to be the case that if you weren't married, fathers would have to apply specifically for parental rights, but this wasn't done as frequently as you'd think. So perhaps this last bit is what the midwife is referring to? Although the law changed a while ago (2003?) as far as I know.0 -
Abis and LilyMay - just seen the good news about your scans, really pleased for you both! :j xx0

OM- lovely baby bump! Ive have a belly on me too atm but its just pure bloat. Its a great look:o
I think over here you get a scan at 10weeks but some of the gps in our practice are doing scans before your referral at like 6/7weeks:eek: My gp isnt one of them though. Got my docs appt on Tues but my own doc cant see me until the end of the month so it will be a locum.
Strange about the fathers rights and marriage. I thought as long as there name was on the birth certificate then that was all you needed but i could easily be wrong.
Afm, still doing tests every day like a crazy woman. Sore boobs and slight stomach cramps still but thats all. Got my 3+ on digi yday so that made me feel better for about half a day!
Have a great Sat all.:j0 -
Just to add, someone above got it right. If you are married, either can go and register baby and both names will be on the certificate. If you arn't married, mum and dad both have to go if you want dad's name on the certificate.
The whole thing about parental rights isn't applicable to us as the law changed some 10 years ago.
Hope everyone is doing okay. I have had a terrible terrible pain in the left side of my groin all day. I can't decide whether it's a trapped nerve or something else.
As for 'showing', the area of skin just above my public region looks swollen but I still have a bit of a belly above my c-section scar so It's not like I have a bump! Everything is so tiny at this stage, as in mm's, it's just not big enough to make a difference.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
Oh no - I'm 6 weeks today and I have a terrible feeling that it is all about to go terribly wrong! This morning I had a sharp pain in my back and this afternoon I have just discovered pink spotting and a tiny bit of blood
:( Panic panic...Maybe it's not meant to be. I thought it was all a bit too good to be true conceiving in just 3 weeks
Don't know what to do...suppose I have to just sit it out and see what happens. First MW appointment was supposed to be a week on Wednesday. Is there anyone I can speak to on a weekend?

cpoir you could try ringing the maternity unit at the hospital, I was told before 17 weeks to ring GP, but as it's a weekend maybe they'll talk to you or ring out of hours.
Fingers crossed its nothing I had a bit of dark spotting early on and everything was fine.Got married 13/11/10
