TTC I would just tell people it's gonna be easier and less stressful in the long run, I always think theyre gonna find out eventually and even if things didn't go to plan you would want your friends and family's support. I've told loads of people including my son would we told as soon as we found out lol

Been feeling really poop today felt sick this morning went to town and when I got back just felt exhausted and sickly, managed a bit of tea but really had to force it down, meant to be back at work Monday :( xx

  • TTC glad the scan went well.

Maybe you could say you have some sort of injury? It's the danger of falling or injuring yourself that will make skiing dangerous.

I'd have a bad back (mention visiting a chiropractor or something) or a sprained ankle so I couldn't ski.. and moan about the fake injury and want to ski all the time I was there lol..

    Thanks Lemon.

Scan went well - could see one sac. No heartbeat yet but it wouldn't be guaranteed to see this yet as I am not quite 6 weeks.

He has suggested another scan on Friday by which time there should be a heartbeat. Def think I'm supporting his pension fund/ savings plan (although I don't mind really)!

And then the news that he said an absolute no to skiing - I had asked him this question a week ago by e mail but he didn't answer it. Obviously I had already googled on this & got conflicting advice.

I fully understand the advice/ risk.

He can sign the insurance forms if we/ I choose not to go. This is difficult as we weren't planning on saying anything to anyone yet - was going to have a phantom kidney problem to explain no drinking. We are going as a group of 10.

So either I go, don't ski & tell them the truth (unless you guys can come up with a reason why the week before I suddenly declare I'm not a skier after 20 years of skiing).

Or I don't go, in which case I need to give an explanation to the group & also to everyone else who knows I'm going skiing (or tell a pack of lies & hide at home for a week).

We think the former is the easier in terms of telling less people so early. It would mean that I would tell my parents as I would like them to be the first to know.

It will mean a relaxed/ boring week as there's not a lot to do in ski resorts when you don't ski. I will be loading a lot onto my kindle & taking the laptop.

As I said to the FS, it's a nice problem to have to deal with - although would have been a lot easier if I had got pg a month earlier or later. It's totally not a moan though as a month ago I would have given everything to have this dilemma.

Hello there - great news about the scan. I've also had scans where the sac could be seen but not the heartbeat, but a few weeks later all was present and correct. It's a shame you've had to pay, but peace of mind is worth paying for if the NHS don't see the need for a scan at this point.

In terms of skiing, it's a tricky one. Would you find it boring going skiing but not actually skiing? I know people who do that (mainly to accompany their ski-mad partners) but they tend to make up for it by relaxing in the jacuzzi and drinking - both of which would be out for you at this point.

I guess you could be vague and just say that your dr has advised you not to ski/do strenuous exercise, but you'd rather not go into detail about it - their minds could be boggling! or they could just presume you have a hernia or something perhaps? I would tend to do this as I'm not generally open about stuff so could get away with it, but it depends on you and your friends.

Hope you find the best approach :)

Thanks all. I think the combo of not skiing and not drinking makes it very difficult to cover up.

I'm not the best skier - but I usually lead the way in drinking.

I don't normally fall - I take things steady & don't push myself. Maybe once or twice during the week. That said, it's other people I would also be wary of.

It has got the potential to be boring but I suppose I can spend the morning reading & then some days (depending on where the group are going), I will meet them for lunch. It may be a bus ride to get to where they are which will pass time! Maybe an afternoon nap & another read before they are back from skiing.

I am also hoping it's sunny so I can sit out.

Oh, and I have another dilemma.

a couple in the group have been unable to conceive. They were unsuccessful at IVF about 4 or 5 years ago.

Do I call her in advance or tell her with the others on holiday/ the journey? We fly on Sat morning and won't do anything til the scan on Friday night & then (assuming all is ok) told my parents.

We are friends who get together as part of the group every month or two. Not really close, but someone who I care about how they feel.
  • Woop ttc40 good news for your scan and another on Friday, that's fab :-) I'd go and just be honest and enjoy a really relaxing holiday with lots of sunshine and reading and snowy lunches, it sounds lovely. Your friends will understand much better if you tell them the truth and they'll be happy for you :-) if it was me I'd tell the friends who had been struggling first/separately so they can deal with it in private. Its what I'd want for me because even though I'm genuinely happy when people announce thier pregnancies I'm always a little sad for me that our babies aren't with us. It's easier to find out on my own and then I can compose myself and not make others feel bad just for not being unlucky, that makes me feel like a bad person (I dont know if that makes sense though) just that you've thought about them will mean alot.

Great news on the scan TTC40. Fingers crossed you see the heartbeat next week. I too would not ski. Just take the time to relax and rest plenty.

MV - I can't believe you're going to be 40  How exciting. Are you classed as an older mother at the hospital? Do you have an increased level of care?

Can you believe, I didn't even realise this was a new thread :rotfl:Baby brain already. Please can I be added to the list. Due 22 October. B/I on 26/3 and scan on 10/4 (MV's 40th). Ta x

Getting really bad waves of nausea. I had to turn down a doughnut earlier. This is not good.
