Which leads me on. Me and Mr disagreed on this point. I didn't want emergency pots, I just wanted to throw it all at the CC. Mr wasn't having it so as a compromise we have small pots with a bit of emergency cash. What do you lot all do?
We have a savings pot we throw loose change into and once every so often Hubby bags it up and puts it in the bank towards our holiday fund. It's there if we need it but also out-of-sight-out-of-mind.
Each month I put £100-£200 away in an old account to cover any unexpected emergencies/unplanned events etc. as there's usually one thing that happens I haven't budgetted for.
The only time I use the CC now is if I'm buying something and want the insurance of having paid on a CC. Then I can transfer funds from the other accounts.
I know it's probably wiser to throw it all at the CC (esp as I pay interest on the CC debt) but I like knowing I don't have to use the CC in an emergency. There have also been times when I've paid so much money off the CC bill that i end up using it as I've run short before the month is out.

Afternoon Chickadees - been busy here at work so needed to keep my head down for a bit.
Wage slip is in - £52.74 less that I thought I was getting. Payment from "that" organisation is £35 more than I was expecting with another possible £50 to come my way. Petrol will not be used in its entirety this month so saving £60.
So right now, honing and toning the spreadsheet. I am jealous of anyones ability to create an "automatic updater" and acually might look to a course in excel. I am that sad!
I like the idea of the ISA. I have one that has stood empty for years. I am going to look more into this. And my work pension - I am contributing at least 5.10% into a pension each month and a percentage into a union. I am ending this Union contribution soon but might look to getting a personal pension as well - but not yet.
In line with someone's comment on a "small" emergecy pot, I am trying to accumlate the same. It makes sense - especially if you have a car that migh break down or need new tyres. I am aiming for an emergency £1000 (£83.33 a month x 12) and enough to pay off my bike insurance as a lump sum on the 1st November. (£75 x 8)... difficult but I think it's vital. I shall put that Emergency £1000 into my ISA although I can't start it until May 01st. If I need it come the end of the year to pay off my debt by my desired DFD then I will use it.
Following this and my desire to get to Australia next year. I would like 3 months basic wages accumlated incase I resign / leave / get pushed etc. I never want to live hand to mouth, day to day again. And my next desire is to accumulate a skill which will never not be needed - electrician / mechanic / beautician..... Now stop laughing! :rotfl:
Anyway - thats my desire. Whether I get it or not is another question - but I am gonna die trying!

Oh I tried to make gnocci once and it was distasterous! 2 hours and just gloopy watery mash to show for it :rotfl: It's one of those things that seems simple, but is quite precise so easily goes awry! Not to put you off, I'm sure you'll have far more sucess than me.
Spendy day for me: I'm off to the seaside for the weekend and going to do some foraging for mussels (free an yum!) so bought a wire brush for cleaning. And tonight is a planned social - pub quiz.
Have a good Wednesday everybody!

Afternoon all,
Still working - finished one "job" at 1 am this morning - got up - kids to school and back at it. Need to do another 11 hours by the end of the month (preferably the end of tomorrow so I can actually enjoy the bank holiday weekend). :j
The problem with fleabaying is it does seem to suck up time! Anyway not much left to sell, going to do a carboot with a friend when (if) it ever warms up. To be honest if I work the hours I spent fleabaying I would probably earn more. I know I am lucky that my lovely boss is never short of jobs for me to do and things to sort out so I think this may be the way forward. He is definately the best boss in the world - he posted me a huge posh easter egg which arrived this morning!!
On the down side I saw DH pay in the pending transactions on our account- its down on what was expected - turns out that when he got promoted they forgot that one of his bonus things should stop. Pay was down last month because they had stopped it and down even more this month as they are taking back what he had in error. Unfortunately its legal - just a bit annoying!
My wee boy is sooooo excited about the rugby thing. Very cute! Need to go and source him some trackie bottoms over the next couple of days then he is ready to go!
Anyway it's nearly pay day HURRAY!! :j:j Bank account is in a better state than it would have been without this challenge so thankyou Kat (even with the massive car bill!). Will wait and see what unfolds for April
Love to all

Well I have been naughty...spotted some bits in TK Maxx that would suit my birthday party.. I spent my last £20 on a Teapot, a beautiful set of 4 cups and sauncers with roses on them... a two tier cake stand and a tray for my Mr Kipling slices...;-)...
This was after bunking off work with some "time in lui" and booking tomorrow on annual leave... I am not back to work now until the 15th!

Evening all!
I am so ready for the end of this month. All budgets been blown by things out the clue in all areas:(
Still, not goingto get down about it - onwardsand upwards (or downwards hopefully!!!) Eagerly anticipating April challenge so I can go about tinkering with my spreadsheets and budgets to get all sorted for the coming month. Hubby has hardly any work booked in for the coming month, so praying that will pick up. All the more reason to batten down the hatches moneywise.
Just planning some extremely cheap/free days for Easter hols with the 4 kiddiewinkles. Can't wait to spend some proper time with them!
So far on the list:- Easter garden competition using whats around the house/garden.
- Making an easter tree for our front window with decorated/blown and sewn decorations
- Treasure hunt around our local woods which will get hubby to go early and lay for us.
- Bike ride down the canal with a picnic
- Have free tickets for a working farm for the day - Going to see if it would be suitable to take my class to for a school trip.
- Going to set the children the challenge of giving them a corner of our horrendously overgrown garden to clear and get ready for making their own bed/vegetable patch - see if they can source any free/cheap seeds/small plants from neighbours/people in the village.
- Repair and make nice our old wooden wendy house - think painting the outside, sewing new curtains, etc...

Evening all,
Another SFD today and Ive done another bank shift so double :j:j:j.
Back on the ISA front, I think I might just pay my CC monthly minimums and put the extra cash I would pay into an ISA until the 0% finishes. Therefore its sitting in my bank account gaining interest rather than boosting bankers bonuses etc :rotfl:. This always makes me feel better.
And payday is tomorrow :T:T:T and Ive got to the end of another month overdraft free. All comes down to this forum so thankyou NSK and all.
Havind a spend day tomorrow as Im off to the theatre/opera to see something thats meant to be good but cant remember what it is. Forget me head if it wasnt screwed on .

Good evening everyone, how has your day been? I crawled home from work at 9am and only managed a few hours sleep before I had to meet my friend for a pre-planned (and very much looked forward to) brunch. Rather than blow the remaining £15 of my budget as planned, I managed to spend only £9 so, for the first time in ages, there's money left in my misc budget :T
Payday today :j Even after my nightshift, I managed the monthly money shuffle so all money is now in the correct account and cash for April's misc fund has been removed and placed in the appropriate purse. Budgets have been set and I'm ready for the transition from this challenge to the next.NinjaSavingKat wrote: »I am jealous of anyones ability to create an "automatic updater" and acually might look to a course in excel. Hmm, I've thought about this too as I don't even know where to start. I just use excel spreadsheets as grids for my numbers but I have to do all the adding and subtracting manually because I don't know how to do any of the formula bits :rotfl: Is there an online equivalent of Excel for Dummies? Maybe that's a good place for me to start!!0 -
Turned out not to be Pay day after all! not too bOthered though, i still had cash in my account, which is a minor miracle. In the days BK it would have been a minor disaster so once again thanks to NSK for keeping us all on the right track. A small spend day though - boo. XMFIT -T5 #420
