Could I get some advice regarding car seats? We have one of those that you secure in the car with the belt. I find it a pain in... well, there. Our belt just barely goes around it and it takes a lot of fiddling around to secure the thing, and I never get the feeling it's properly secured. So I would like to get one of those that you click into a base that remains in the car. Any recommendations? Is there any travel system with a car seat that does that and lasts for over 12 months? There seem to be a lot of discounts at the moment with the end of the tax year, and I'd like to see if it's worth to buy a new travel system (under £300 on offer) if it gives us a click in car seat plus rear and front facing pram; or if I should buy a base and a car sear now, then a car seat when she's over one. Our current travel system costed £60 on extreme discount offer from Boots ex-display, so I don't feel I'd be wasting much!
My LO grew out of the infant carrier at 6 months, but she's a big baby. I'd second what Gilly said - I wouldn't buy a travel system if you only need the car seat. I do find though that the car seat we have now seems a lot more stable and better fixed in the car than the infant carrier ever did with a seat belt - presumably because it's bigger and more stable. We have the Britax first class plus (same as Gilly and Turtle), which is rear facing initially and also has an insert for younger babies, and at my parents' we have the Britax Eclipse, which is forward facing only and from 9kg, but good for smaller cars and very sturdy and stable. Both attach with a seat belt, but Britax also do isofix ones from 9kg if that's what you're after. Kiddicare have lots of offers on at the moment.
Once you move on to a bigger seat you won't be taking it out of the car all the time though, so you won't have to keep attaching and re-attaching it. If you're worried about getting it right, go to Halfords - they fit seats in your car for £5.0 -
We've got the britax first class plus too, got it when he was about 7 months I think. Definitely recommend, and I second what Nutella said about it feeling more stable than the infant carrier. I was glad to get him out of the infant carrier as I struggled with getting it in too, not to mention carting a 7 month old around in it was not good for my back!Newborn thread member

We moved to a front facing at 9mnths. We had a infant seat with a base in the cars so I cant really compare to just strapping it in, it was alot easier just placing it on the base though, especially as we both have 3 door cars. Our infant carrier was the maxi cosi cabriofix and our front facing is maxi cosi priori xp. We liked the infant carrier so went for the same make.
Hope everyone is okay. So snowy here! Took Aiden out earlier which wasnt wise as the pram wouldnt budge without alot of force! So we just had to stop at starbucks for some fruit toast and hot choche also took 6 steps today so I am very proud of him!
Also may have a offer for the house so its been a good few days for us.
Ihave a bad memory on names but the lady who is struggling with her newborn, I am so sorry to read things are hard atm. We have all been there, I know I definately have. It will improve but definately mention it to hv when you get her weighed or for jabs? There may be a reason why she is a bit more tearful perhaps. I hope things improve for you, keep chatting to us about it as everyone can offer advicexx

We swapped to the first class plus at about four months-Erin hated car trips in the infant carrier type seat and I'd long since given up on the pram the carrier attached on to.
We've got a britax infant carrier to go with ourvdouble buggy this time round though.
Cross everything for us-Robyn came off treatment lights a few hours ago and we have a late night blood test to check if her billi levels stay or rebound back up - if they don't we can go home since she's feeding like a champ!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

The proper car seats are fab as they're so much higher up so if they're curious (read nosey) they can look out and see what's going onThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

morocha I am apalled at your HVs. If you want a HV and don't want to see those two, you should be able to see someone different - I would suggest asking to speak to the HV supervisor/team leader.0

Fingers crossed for you Dizzi!
Morocha... how long does she feed for? How long from the start of one feed to the next?0 -

Now got her on the bottom light as well at my request to try to get things moving because I'm getting flashbacks and my ptsd is going to intolerable levels being in and doing this again.0 -
We have the britax baby safe plus car seat with the belted base. We were initially tempted by the maxi cosi pebble but were put off by the price. The Brittax is much cheaper and we love it
The belted base is by far the BEST thing we have bought. I love being able to just clip him straight in, great in the shocking weather we've been having
We've been getting some nice stretched out sleeps of 5-6 hours lately. Annoyingly he went to bed early tonight so has had his 'last' feed at 11 and not 12. So I'm expecting a 5am wake up call... Yippee...0
