Bad night here too... The bottle experiment did not go down well! Expressing I got loads out of my half empty one and started on the next so 5 ml in total. She wolfed down half pausing to scream and be burped a few times, then we swapped to the newborn bottle (from Medea calma teat) and she took another 1.5 ml still coming on and off and screaming. She then screamed until 12.30 and I held her on me asleep until 1.30 when she woke up going into her swaddle.

Any advice on making the transition to occasional bottle a little easier? It's just for odd night time and I have a staff training day next month I have to leave her for 6 hours. Starting to panic a bit!
  • Lobey - was it just you trying to give LO the bottle? I can't speak from experience I was too darn lazy to persevere with bottles when I could just get my boobs out, but I know friends who had much better results when they were out of the room, or better yet out of the house and their OH offered the bottle. If you're there LO will want the real deal, but if the real deal isn't an option at the time they're generally much more likely to go for the bottle.

I'm on my own at mil's at the mo - OH got roped into helping Sfil with something, mil is at the gym and G is snoozing. I've raided the larder and I'm sitting down and doing absolutely nothing in particular. Bliss :D

Nutella, if you have the pods in the bag, can you fit a kindle/tablet in as well as a couple toys?

Yes, as long as the toys aren't too big. I find that the best use of space is to put one pod sideways/across at the bottom and then the other one 'standing up' on top of it - that seems to maximise the space around them. To give you a sense of what you'd be able to fit in, last time I travelled we had a 15-hour journey door to door, and I carried:

    - changing pod: 7 x size 5 nappies, changing mat, small Sudocrem, small pack of wet wipes, handful of nappy sacks, spare set of clothes for LO.
    - food pod: all LO's food and snacks, her cutlery, bib and small pack of wet wipes.
    - side pockets: my water bottle in one pocket, camera and LO's walking reins in the other.
    - front pocket: wallet, passports and tickets, keys, tissues, pens...all those little bits and pieces.
    - main section: the two pods + LO's water bottle, small drawing pad & crayons, two board books, two small toys, cardigan for LO, liquids bag with my travel-sized hand cream, deodorant etc.

The more you use it, the better you get a miximising the space, so it's definitely worth spending a bit of time playing with the stuff you want to bring and figure out how to best fit it in :)

T has dryness on his face and inner elbows etc. Mentioned it at weigh in and she suggested olive oil. Keeps the elbows, knees etc better, but I've just been to gp for his face as now it's colder it's starting to look like it will get chapped on his cheeks and chin. Prescribed Aveeno cream for regular use (just a moisturiser from what I can make out) and a short dose of hydrocortisone ointment.
I'd pop into gp if you can, or maybe have a chat with pharmacist if you're too busy with work now for docs appt, they'll give good advice.

I'm off to another nct nearly new sale - hoping to pick up a bouncer or rocker for upstairs but I've heard that they are really popular. I have my eye on a few cheap ones on ebay anyway.

I'm also going to a Christmas light switch on this evening - great excuse to put him in one of his Next Christmas sleepsuits, yay!

My LO loves her £15 bouncer but hates the £45 rocker!!! Before you shell out...make sure your LO likes them!!! (unless you get an absolute bargain that is....and then it doesn't matter! LOL!). The rocker looks so comfortable - wish they did them for adults! (is that a business idea....??!!:p)

How late is your Xmas lights switch on? I am thinking of taking LO to ours but it will mean messing up the bedtime routine and I am worried how she will be in the dark (eek!) and also with the fireworks they are supposed to be setting off. Let me know how it goes! (an have fun of course!)

I have just eaten the rest of the jar of nutella....why is it just so damn nice (especially when its been in the fridge and is all chewy!!!).

Oh and anyone with a liking for little girls dungarees (I think they look so cute so couldn't resist!) - these are going cheapish at Jojo Maman Bebe http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+girls-navy-floral-cord-dungarees-in-girls-troussers-leggings-and-dungarees+b8846 (only up to 12 months though sorry!) and theres a code for 10% off on MSE which works too - bring them down to £9.90 delivered and I saw them in store the other day so can confirm they are lovely!

Edit: See below for 15% code instead - thank you Laywife (plus don't forget TCB!)
