:jYay! I've always thought that I must be the only person in the whole world that does that! :T Makes me feel so very normal :D

We are very normal! Those who don't do it are the strange ones!!!

BTW....have you ever tried a Nutella thick shake? A little milk, some icecream, a huge spoonful of nutella in a blender - oh god its lush!:p

and these are sooooo lovely - made them a few weeks ago! http://kirbiecravings.com/2011/09/nutella-stuffed-chocolate-chip-cookies.html (they also freeze well when cooked!)
  • starbucks hazelnut hot chocolate tastes like nutella as well.

They look amazing! Can't understand why you would freeze them... I'd gobble them all up way before they needed freezing!

    Loooove hazelnut hot chocolate.

Struggling with LO biting me today :naughty: I think he's confused as we keep presenting him with all these food bits for him to explore (blw) and then when he's hungry I bung in my b00bie. Not sure whether to nibble or not!
    Any tips?

When G bit me I took him off the boob and said "No" firmly, waited a few seconds to be sure I had his attention and put him back on. Worked generally, til he got to 10-11 months when it was all a big old joke to him and he'd chomp down then laugh his socks off when I said no. Some have said to sort of push his face further into your boob but I imagine that might mean he then would try to turn his head with a chunk of nipple between his teeth. Ouchies.

  • Morning all. Got a q to ask.

What do people do to treat dry, cracked hands? Never suffered with it before but obviously my hands are in water a lot more now. I can only think to get some gloves for when I do the dishes, but what creams are good?

Same problem here! I've worked my way through the hand creams in Boots, but my absolute favourite is Aveeno. It's fab :) I have one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom and use it every time my hands have been in water - it really does make a difference. And gloves/mittens when you're outside in cold weather too - that also seems to help.

    Morning all :)

Finally managed to catch up properly.

IHateDida, yay for tooth! :T I don't think we did any actual brushing until she had a couple of teeth, but I'd give her the toothbrush to play with/chew on. Made no difference to us - she still screamed her way through brushing for the next nine months, but after 11 months and 9 teeth, we've finally cracked it :o - but I know some people find it helps your LO get used to the toothbrush.

Claree, re. sleeping bags - thanks so much for your very kind offer, but I'm planning to give a couple to a friend who's expecting a baby and I think I'm going to also keep a couple just in case we have another baby and he/she hates sleeping bags slightly less! But thanks again :)

Oh, and on Nutella - those cookies look really yummy (but like Lazywife said, I can't see myself ever needing to freeze any! ;)) and I also really want to try a Starbucks hazelnut hot chocolate now. I'm always excited by the arrival of the red cups (sad, I know!), but so far this year I haven't branched out beyond my favourite toffee nut latte.

Am working from home today and just made macaroni cheese for our lunch - it smells so yummy I can't wait for LO to finish her nap so we can eat!

Epic post coming up in response to Saf's question about flights.... :o

I booked my flight home for next year last night and rang up this morning to reserve a bassinet for the long haul components. So if ANYONE has advice/suggestions on making things easier on long haul flights with a very energetic 9 month old I'm listening (she is a very busy 6 month old; I doubt that will lessen!).

Warning - this is going to be a long post....

I've done lots of flights with my LO, most of them short haul, but I think many of the same 'rules' apply, so here are some random thoughts.... Apologies in advance if any of it comes across as obvious or patronising - that's not at all my intention :o

    - I don't know which airport you're flying from, but as a general rule, the bigger the airport, the less family friendly it is. In London, Heathrow is rubbish, Gatwick is good (has a family lane for security and passport control) and City is even better. Ask for/accept help and jump queues where you can (politely, obviously!) - the vast majority of people are very helpful and understanding when you travel with a baby.
    - Allow lots of extra time to avoid stress - for an extra nappy change, for security (it's a faff) and for any other unexpected things.
    - A taxi to the airport is worth every penny - do not attempt public transport no matter how cheap it is!
    - Check your arline's policy on pushchairs if you're bringing one, and if they let you take it to the gate (most do), then do take it to the gate. It makes life a lot easier. Check if they provide giant plastic bags to put it in - most airlines sell them for £5-ish at the check-in/customer service desk. Or, if you have a stroller, this bag is brilliant.
    - Hand luggage: Remember that you'll have to carry hand luggage and your LO - this is fine when you depart if you're taking a pushchair to the gate; it's not so fine in transit and when you return, as you don't get the pushchair back until after passport control. A small rucksack is much better than a big bag or a wheelie suitcase. I have this from PacaPod and it's AMAZING. Expensive yes, but worth every penny if you're going to be travelling with a small person a few times - I didn't know it existed the first few times I travelled, but now that I do, I'd never travel without it again.
    - Hand luggage part 2: baby food is excempt from liquid rules, but at security you have to taste half of what you're carrying. So think through what you're bringing and whether you'd spoil it by having to open it/whether it would be impossible to close again (like a carton of milk). You can normally choose yourself which ones to open and taste (so one of mine is always LO's water bottle! ;)). If the airport you're flying from has a Boots, you can order milk and baby food in advance and pick it up after security, although I've never tried this myself.
    - Once on board, the most interesting things for your LO will be the seat belt (open, close, open, close, open, close.....and so on), the infant life jacket, the emergency instructions card, the sick bag; basically all the things you don't want them to put in their mouth. But I let my LO play with them - she also likes the in-flight magazine. The newspaper of the poor soul sitting next to you will also be popular.
    - Bring one or two new and interesting toys and at least one familiar one. Put another one of two in your suitcase and don't let her see them whilst you're away to keep them new and interesting for the return flight.
    - As soon as you get on the plane, whilst people are still arriving and sitting down (so you get in there early), ask at least one member of staff (ideally two!) if there are any spare seats on the flight, and if so, whether by any chance you could please, please have one. They're likely to be sympathetic. Having a second seat where you can spread out your stuff makes a *big* difference.
    - Pick an aisle seat. You want to be able to get up and move around easily.
    - Take off and landing can make little people's ears hurt due to the air pressure - sucking on a bottle/boob/dummy helps. Start when cabin crew are asked to take their seats for take-off/landing.
    - There's a lot of entertainment value in food. Snacks that take a long time to eat are great - for us, that includes blueberries and Ella's Kitchen cheese & tomato puffits.
    - In a nutshell: preparation is everything :o

I'm sure there's a lot more I could be saying, but I'll stop here as I've been rambling on for way too long. Very happy to answer more questions if you've got any :)
