Hi, I was wondering if I could get some advice. My 6 month old will not eat from a spoon if we feed him. He will try finger food and sometimes puts a spoon in his own mouth but presses his lips together if we try. We have been doing some BLW and some mashed foods/pouches/jars etc. It is very early days as we have only been trying solids for a few weeks. I am using very soft tipped baby spoons (similar to his bottle teats). We try and make mealtimes fun, all sit around the table with him in his high chair and try to make it as relaxed as possible. Is there anything I can do to encourage him or should I just give it more time?
I agree with Fluff, Katie and Bamama. Don't stress as he'l only pick up on that. BLW is what it says, baby led, it's not always about just feeding themselves it's about being led by your baby and them knowing when it's time to start eating, if that makes sense. It could be he just isn't ready yet, and that's not a bad thing. I'd let him play with some food in his high chair or at the table, and if he picks it up and eats it great, if he smooshes it into the table, brilliant too.
Learning to eat is a skill, just like walking and talking are, and you wouldn't expect them to wake up over night and be able to do those things, it just takes practice, but they learn very quickly
Afm, still packing, got all of A's 18-24m clothes out to pack, 12 pairs of trousers and 24 tshirts  not even started on the shirts and over garments, safe to say we have nothing to buyHe is off to the in-laws today, so I'm cracking on with all that needs done, except I'm not, I'm sat here having a brew and eating a bagel, really need a boot up my bum to get me moving!

Still not good, but thanks for askingI've been trying a different toothbrush which she seems to hate slightly less (the other one has been demoted to comforter-only-status ) and I've also been doing an over the top 'aaaaaahhhhhh!' that she sometimes copies, which helps a little bit. And she gets to brush my teeth with a spare brush that I bought, so that makes it a bit more fun, but the bottom line is she still doesn't like it. Just as well we only have three teeth!

A question for the breastfeeding mummas - when your little one got teeth did you find you had to change anything? Shays latch has always been good but she's started 'grinding' whilst feeding and today she has broken the skin and it kills! Is there anything I can do?0

Nutella have you tried actually brushing your teeth at the same time LO does hers? I've only done this recently as I thought he'd be confused as I've got an electric. But he keeps going a lot longer than if I I'm just encouraging him.
DDB when G got his first teeth he did a similar thing but it did pass. If it was bearable I gritted my teeth and left him to it, but on the few occasions he actually bit me I took him off with a sharp "no" and he soon got the message. I think she's just trying out her new teeth on anything and everything!Newborn thread member

ThanksI have - I bought a 'normal' toothbrush in the same colour as hers for that purpose as I too use an electric one, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. She just laughs at me! The one thing that sometimes works is if I brush her teeth and she gets to brush mine at the same time, but that too is a bit hit and miss. Will keep trying though!

Look, Candlewax, no spoon required. Bolognaise sauce transferred successfully from bowl to face using just hands."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Awwww - Freddie looks so pleased with himself!
My LO's face was in a similar state after her lunch of pasta and tomato sauce today - no spoon involved.

In the pic is an 'unbelieveabowl'. They're really good. Suction thing that sticks to your tray (will only work on very smooth things like plastic - won't work on wooden tables unfortunately) then you put the bowl on top. Prevents it being launched across the room by your enthusiastic baby. You can, of course, just use the tray but when at Grandma's and Grandad's (as shown in the picture) a certain level of decorum is required"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
