Hi All, Going to catch up and read back after my bath - just a quick question - anyone use cot bumpers? We had one but took it back after hearing they aren't recommended due to cot death.
However, our little one turns into a gymnast in the cot and is constantly banging her head against the sides, particularly the solid ends and she really bangs it quite hard. A lot of the time she doesn't cry but she does occasionally cry and it must hurt!!
So we don't know what to do for the best - get a cot bumper and risk cot death or don't get a cot bumper and risk more bangs on the head. I know both are probably both small risks but I don't know which is the "lesser of the two evils" if you like?
I saw the safe dreams cotwraps which look great but we would need a 4 sided one and they don't fit solid ended cots.
Any suggestions or comments would be gratefully received.

Hi all
Just wanted to join in and say hi, I am a new first time mummy to baby Henry who was born 12/07/13 so I think I may find this thread very useful as I need all the advice I can get!
Nikki
Welcome and congrats Nikki. My Freddie was almost a Henry and almost exactly one year older too.

I'm not really an expert because Freddie doesn't seem to hurt himself too much. But I will say that I bet the phase of accidentally banging yourself is short-lived. Pretty soon she'll be more aware of the dimensions of her bedspace and she'll stop clanging into things. Could you wait do you think?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I'm not sure really, she can sit up by herself now in the cot and tries to kneel from a sitting position which launches her forward into the cot side. Or..she pushes off the mattress with her feet and smacks the top of her head into the cot. I think if it was the occasional tap here and there it wouldn't be too bad but the walloping noises are getting louder and more frequent and I'm worried about her poor little head. OH thinks a cot bumper is an absolute must, I'm worried about getting one not least because she will either try to eat it or sleep against it in the night as she loves to sleep against the cot bars, plus as it only partially covers 3 sides of the cot, it seems useless for her amazing turning and tumbling routines down the other end of the cot. We'd definitely need 2 cot bumpers and then there is the bit in the middle to worry about. It is actually the solid bits at the end that are worse than the cot bars themselves. Ho hum....! I think I was hoping for a miracle product I'd not come across to solve the problem!
My friend with a 14 month old said her son was like that around 8 months and then settled down and barely moves now so he sleeps with a quilt. I'm wondering if movement will be more restricted when she goes back in her grobags - been too hot for them lately.0 -
My A is continually throwing himself into things, we have a cot with solid ends and he kicks and punches it a lot  He's ok (I think
) So I'd go with no cot bumper, even the air wraps wouldn't stop her banging I don't think, only from sticking her limbs through x

All well with the delivery?
Thank you
A quick labour, just over 6 hours, was 8cm when I went in for a check expecting to be sent home and ended up straight in delivery suite starting to push then had to have ventouse after pushing for 3 hours because my contractions slowed down so all in all think I was quite lucky compared to the horror stories I kept hearing when I was pregnant!New first time mummy to a gorgeous little boy!

Sammie - Great news about Noah's hearing!
Mrsashworth - How is your little one now?
Bamama - I was wondering about expressing at work but know all the "requirements" I'd ask about would be eye rolled by my boss. I don't know what to do really, little one has 2 bottles and 2/3 breast feeds a day now so as long as I express at night and feed her in the morning and as soon as I come in from work I think my supply should be OK to sustain the breast feeds. Hope you work things out OK to be able to do that and to go back to work on the hours you want/are able to do.
sunshine - good luck with the application. I forget so much stuff too, I tend to update my CV as I do a course etc. now as I can't remember it when the time comes! Hope you get the job
Nutella - How is the toothbrushing going? I spoke too soon about my little one liking having her teeth brushed. She now emulates mini-Nutella and does everything but let me brush her teeth, she even chews the other end of the brush, but not the bristly end!
marta - Naps were ok until LO learnt to sit up by herself so if she isn't dog tired and desperate for a sleep but just tired enough to cry about it but not want to go to sleep then she just sits up and bounces in her cot (see earlier post on cot gymnastics!). She is much much better than she was though, usually a moany 10 minutes and a lot of rolling and she falls asleep. How is your little ones pulling up/walking going? This one keeps pushing up on her legs but can't stand so falls into the sides of her cot and is very frustrated that she can't stand!
lazywife - I always worry that because my little one won't be going to nursery she won't have these fun-filled days with lots of activities for their diaries but its not like I'll not be playing with her so that makes me feel better! Nursery costs are extortionate!! Yay for flexbile hours!
Saffa - Are you a member of the union? Could they help with regards to your poor HR/manager situation? Our HR dept make a lot of unecsseary work for themselves yet don't seem to help when you actually need them!!
NikkiAnn - Congratulations on baby Henry - love the name! Glad to hear you had a quick labour - I went in for a check expecting to be at least 6-8cm, she told me I was 2cm and it was a massive kick in the teeth! Hope you are recovering well
Gilly - Thanks, yeah the airwraps didn't look very padded - she loves sleeping with her legs out of the cot so wouldn't have been ideal. Does he punch the solid cot ends with his head and does he still seem ok? She loves kicking the cot but its the fact she loves to bang her head which is worrying me!
Sorry if I missed anyone - big hellos to you all xxx0 -
Yeah he bashes his head off, and it is very loud. He doesn't seem to mind though, sometimes he'l say 'owww' and then hit it with his hand and say 'BAD'The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

:rotfl: bless him! I think I'd try a cot bumper if I thought it would have an effect but I think she will end up kicking it down and chewing on it! :rotfl:0

He head bangs a lot atm though, if things aren't just so or he isn't allowed to do something he goes to the closest object he can find and whacks his head off it, and if there isn't anything he'l do it to the floor
very trying.
