Hallo ladies, after a sleep breakthrough on Thursday night (she slept in her moses basket from 10:30 till 7 with just two half hour feeds in between) the past two nights have gotten worse, though still in her moses. Up to now at best she'd sleep for an hour then scream and only settle on me so I guess it is some progress. Last night she woke every two hours like clockwork but took an hour to feed and resettle each time.

I'm torn now as to what to do. I can borrow a crib and keep her in my room a little longer or she'll have to move into her own room (cot) in the next couple weeks as is getting very long and won't fit. She's only 6 weeks old. DH thinks she should move out, but he doesn't get up to her. Oh dear. We probably will sleep better in our own rooms but she looks so little in her cot!

He took my car for a drive last week to ensure all OK ready for me to be out and about again and its developed a fault which needs repairing.

I should make notes about the sites you ladies post to help me out when LO reaches that stage.

I have read through but blame my sleep deprived brain for not remembering to be able to comment. Hope you have all had a good weekend and the christening went well.

Is there no room for the cot in your room, Saffagal? Even if it means moving a few bits? We never bothered with a moses basket or crib so the cot had to come into our (titchy) room. I moved a couple of things out and squeezed it in.

For SIDS reasons they recommend keeping baby in with you for at least 6 months, being as close to you helps to stabilise (sp?) there breathing. I'd borrow the crib if you can and if it won't cost you anything, especially if she's waking as much having her in your room will help I'd say. xx

I had to move out my wardrobe and I have the cot on my side, no corridor whatsoever, I have to get out of bed crawling to the bottom. She's 6 months on Wednesday and I plan to have a guest bed / air bed / some bed in her bedroom once I move her there so I can sleep nearby if she's ill or something. Also, I rather sleep next to her than having to get up and walk to her bedroom every time she wakes, now I put my hand between the bars and she settles. Why does your DH want her out of your bedroom? As it has been mentioned, it is not considered safe until they are 6 months at least.

my usual non sleeping baby is sleeping which I should obviously be delighted about. She wakes for 2 feeds in 12 hours which is amazing considering she had been waking every hour. However, she doesn't really nap in the day now except for maybe 2 or 3 20 minute snoozes and rubs her eyes all day and has been quite grouchy since the heat came...she has just flaked out next to me on the couch - completely unheard of her going to sleep by herself, she usually fidgets and moans and cries until we help her to sleep. I'm putting the sleepyness down to the heat and the fresh air all day (is this plausible?)

...but the eye rubbing - could it be hayfever or something? I have bad hayfever and feel tired most of the day (and feel grumpy!) but wouldn't really be able to sleep, I always want to rub my eyes.

I think I'm just wondering why she is suddenly sleeping so well at night after almost 6 months of seriously broken sleep! Also worried about her rubbing her eyes, maybe she needs longer naps? Any advice much appreciated!

PS. Tried her first rusk today and didn't like it. First food she hasn't liked!

Edit: Saffa - I echo what the others say about keeping them in with you, our room has been packed full since we moved furniture to squeeze the cot in and now she is coming up to 6 months I feel like crying that I have to put her in her own room soon. She'd be 18 and still in our room if I had my way :D

My lo rubs her eyes a lot when she's tired. She usually has 40 min naps but this week I found out that if I lay down with her in my bed, she would sleep two hours easily. So I'm going to encouragelunch naps together as I love a nap and she gets more rest. Maybe your lo also fell asleep because she was next yo you and relaxed with the heat?

Does your baby sleep with a toy? what are your thoughts on breathable toys? I'm considering buying one, DH likes the monkey below. The reason is that if she wakes up at night and does not need a feed, she will fall asleep again if she holds my hand... But that means I'm sat on bed holding her hand until she falls asleep again, I was wondering if I can achieve a similar result by getting her to cuddle a toy.

She has a new trick which I find hilarious. I say "no, no, no" and shake my head, she watches and then repeats the shaking herself! We repeated that for ages and every time she stops shaking the head she smiles very proud. I have no clue why she does it or how we got there, I found out today. :D

Edit: ooops, sorry for size of pic!!!

Marta, LO and I had cuddly two-hour afternoon naps almost every day whilst I was on maternity leave - it was fab and kept me sane :D Like your LO, she'd sleep for much longer if I was there with her.

My LO has a Purflo Shleepy that she's had in her cot from around 3 months and she's quite attached to it - when I went to check on her before going to bed last night, she was sleeping with it on her head! I don't know much about breathable toys, but wouldn't worry about breathability once they're able to move around and/or turn over - although that monkey is very cute :) I wouldn't buy something too expensive though as you have to be prepared to replace it if she gets really attached to it and you lose it, or - as in our case - you need to buy a second one to keep with a childcare provider. Most important thing is that it's machine washable! As for whether or not it can replace mummy holding her hand - only time will tell...

My LO sleeps with this in the blue colour. We have several and I love it because it's cheap to replace, and they've had the same one for years, so I'd hope they would't replace it... He is obsessed with it, and loves to sniff and smell it :o

Oh, I was obsessed with her toys not being breathable, but yeah, she can move around with no issues, so I guess I should not worry. I have a comforter blanket with a bunny, quite similar to yours gillyx, I might try to persuade her to use it. It's been at the very top of her cot for months but she has paid no notice, although it might be because it's white and blends with the bedding. The monkey thing was 9 quid but if she can have anything else, then I'll try first with the ones we have got.

Nutella, I love those naps! :D I discovered by chance that she would sleep longer with me, and since I used to nap before pregnancy, it felt reeeeally good to be able to do so again. It's lovely also to wake up and see her face snuggled up to me, or getting awaken by her hands bashing my face! Lol
