Re flat heads - we nearly ended up with a helmet, but did all sorts of things things to avoid it. In addition to what you've already identified, consider a Clevamama Clevafoam pillow to reduce pressure on his head when he's sleeping. Despite what the NHS want you to believe, not all cases of flat head sort themselves out, although most do. A cranial osteopath might also be able to help.

What was causing your LO's flat head? Was it the way she slept?

Hi ladies, just a quick visit, will pop back later to post properly.

Congratulations mogwai and we also had latch issues when my milk came in. LO lost more than 10% (though I think her official weight was inflated by me having had a drip) and my mw encouraged me to go to a breastfeeding group. I am so glad I went - it really helped sort our latch issues and meeting other moms reassured me that I was not alone and breastfeeding is hard. (My mom and aunts and older cousin kept on saying how easy it is and they never had any issues which was not helpful). A is 6 weeks today and gaining weight, growing taller, is happy and alert and we've exclusively breastfed.

Nutella I thought pillows weren't safe? Did you use it?

We used a Clevamama pillow from around 3 months, but if I'd known then what I know now, I'd have used one from birth. You're right that 'normal' pillows are not recommended, but the Clevamama one is fine because of the material it's made from - it's, uhm, foamy rather than soft and fluffy. Although if you were worried, I see no reason why you couldn't put it under his sheet.

Most likely a combination of the way she slept (on her back) plus lying on her back on her playmat and in the buggy. So once we got the pillow, we also used it in those places. She's now graduated to the toddler version (from 12 months), which is bigger and thicker, and she'll be using that until she's at least 2, but I expect we'll be using it beyond that age as it's a nice and comfy pillow!

Mogwai - congratulations and welcome to the thread! Sadly breastfeeding didn't work out for us, but there are some very helpful ladies on here who will no doubt do what they can to support :)

Congrats mogawi! Just to say that when the milk does come in, it can take a full day or more of letting the baby suckle almost all of the time. I had a baby attached to me for the best part of 7 hours in the hospital, the midwife told me it was normal, in my post-partum state, I thought she meant 'normal' as in this is what breastfeeding would always be like! It isn't though, it was just a hellish night of constant feeds and before we were home the milk was through. Good luck, I found it hard work until 6 weeks, then it got a wee bit easier then after 12 weeks it became a doddle.

morocha - We started weaning at 4 months. Just normal weaning not BLW. Little Miss practically hoovered all of the food up. As per advice here I didn't drop milk feeds, she is still gaining weight well and hasn't refused anything I've made or given her so far!

Katie - Hope the scratching settles down for you!

Happy Birthday Reuben (a bit late!) lovely lovely photos turtle.

Nutella - Thanks for telling us about the pillow, very handy to know!

marta - a gorgeous video of your little one crawling!!

My little one has suddenly done a week of going down at 10, feed at 3, feed at 6 and waking up at 9am. I feel like new woman!!!! I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that now she can roll she likes to roll onto her tummy and sleep on her front. I'm hoping it will be safe for her, she can get back onto her back if she wants to, she just seems comfier on her side or tummy. Quite funny really I have been finding her in all sorts of strange positions (legs up the side of the cot etc!).

I remember someone talking about porridge fingers, has anyone got the recipe around, what porridge do you use? I started blw this week, but veeeery slowly, Tuesday was banana (spitted out), Wednesday was steamed carrot (ate some, I found pieces in the nappy!), today steamed apple (not sure anything went in) and I have cucumber for tomorrow. I'll try avocado and mango next week. I bought baby porridge to do the fingers and some baby biscuits that say over 4-6 months on the box. What else can I give her to play with and munch on? Potato wedges (homemade, no salt)? Bread (homemade too)? Penne pasta? Pear? Pineapple? Toasted bread fingers? I have bought some books but they are proper recipes,I want to offer some basic finger food for a few weeks and "upgrade" to meals later on.

Not sure if they're too salty at the mo, but my sisters 2 loved ryvita with stuff on. They could hold it, gummy chew on it and as it went soft so it went it.

Ryvita do a lighter cracker wheat thing (yellow box?) that G has gobbled since starting weaning, I found they dissolve a bit easier in the mouth than the traditional ones.

He's been a little terror this morning (and every morning this week). Moaning and clinging on to my legs and screeching if I don't pick him up immediately or lavish all my attention on him, all the time. Driving me mad! He's asleep in the pushchair now after a walk out to get some peace. Here he snaps out of it soon, last time we had this after a fortnight two nw teeth popped up so I'm hoping its just that. No other symptoms though so undecided on calpoling him just in case...:(

Porridge fingers - not sure of the "proper" recipe but I just mix some oats (normal, Tesco own brand) with full fat milk (breast or formula works too), bung it in the microwave and basically just over cook it so it goes really stodgy. It'll go more solid as it cools too, then just cut it into chunks and let her dig in. Can't help on exact quantities as I just chuck it in, but more oats than if you we're making porridge normally as you want it to be super stodgy.

The forum on the babyledweaning site is very useful too.
