Re flat heads - we nearly ended up with a helmet, but did all sorts of things things to avoid it. In addition to what you've already identified, consider a Clevamama Clevafoam pillow to reduce pressure on his head when he's sleeping. Despite what the NHS want you to believe, not all cases of flat head sort themselves out, although most do. A cranial osteopath might also be able to help.0

Mogwai has she/he been checked for tongue/lip tie. Mine was and they said nothing was wrong, and he wouldn't latch at all, and I tried and tried and tried. I've since found out he has a lip and quite a severe tongue tie, which would have made it impossible for him to latch really. If you can try to see a lactation consultant as Midwives and HV don't seem to be very much help.
Maybe even a breast feeding group/drop in cafe.
Edit: Congratulations xxThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Mogwai I noticed you were saying on the pregnancy thread about you milk not coming in, we never got going with breast feeding here (long story) but it took 6 days for any substantial milk for me, I was getting 10-20ml and then on the 6th day I got 240ml in one go. So bear with it, I wish I had but by then I had given up and was more concerned with him just being healthy. If I had had more support from midwives etc i would have tried harder with the breast!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0

Well my chunky monkey now weighs 11lb 14oz and has gone from 80th percentile to 93rd!
Congrats Mogwai. Took LO a little while to latch, and even now faffs around messing with the breast for a minute or so before he takes a big mouthful. Also I had to do rugby ball hold one side and normal on the other, but now front on for both sides. Your milk will come in, but day 3-4 is only just when it's coming in. Keep persisting with the bf, it'll become more straightforward in the end...worth getting tongue tie checked out though. Any bf questions, I'll give a go at answering.

Congrats mogwai!! I had issues with latching and not getting enough milk, but I also think if i had had more support , I might had been able to continue BF. Definitely check with a proper lactation consultant, I got the "breastfeeding adviser" from the NHS and she was no help at all, zero, she just referred me to websites and said "oh well, not everyone manages to BF"...so much for being the official BF consultant in my area. If you have issues, get a consultation with a proper one, I really think my lo had tongue tie too but they didn't even bother to check and kind of suggested it was a myth. I didn't feel strong to insist, being my first baby and with all the initial lack of sleep, but I wish I knew all I know now. I am having some strong anti-inflammatories and apparently they affected my production of milk, had I known, I would have stopped for a while, but I think it was a combination of factors too. My milk didn't come until the 5th day, and then I started leaking all the time. But then my lo would not latch, and was crying all the time with hunger whilst I was oblivious to this thinking that "babies cry". They weighted her at 10 days and her weight had decreased by 14%, and they consider it too much over 10%, so they put her on formula and told me to try breast first and express. I think that's when my tablets messed it up even more, and I stopped producing enough. Get plenty of skin to skin too. If I could travel in time and give myself some advice, would be: babies cry when tired and newborns sleep most of the time, sleep with them; talk to a BF consultant ; put them down in her moses after a feed, the sooner they learn that's the place to sleep and not your lap, the easier it will be later on, and when they feed they tend to fall asleep anyway. My lo cried as soon as she touched the moses, however, soon after, we realised that it was because she was still hungry and she could sleep by the boob, as in "ok, you are there, food is nearby", but would cry.murder if put down, thinking the food supply had gone. When we gave her the bottle, she peacefully fell asleep without problem, that's when we knew she had been hungry before. Also, as we had to buy bottles in a hurry, because the midwife said we had to give her a bottle there and then, we just bought what was available in the shop (avent) and we had to buy everything again a few weeks later because she started having issues with colic and had to buy Dr Brown's (I recommend MAM too).Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

I remember someone talking about porridge fingers, has anyone got the recipe around, what porridge do you use? I started blw this week, but veeeery slowly, Tuesday was banana (spitted out), Wednesday was steamed carrot (ate some, I found pieces in the nappy!), today steamed apple (not sure anything went in) and I have cucumber for tomorrow. I'll try avocado and mango next week. I bought baby porridge to do the fingers and some baby biscuits that say over 4-6 months on the box. What else can I give her to play with and munch on? Potato wedges (homemade, no salt)? Bread (homemade too)? Penne pasta? Pear? Pineapple? Toasted bread fingers? I have bought some books but they are proper recipes,I want to offer some basic finger food for a few weeks and "upgrade" to meals later on.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

I echo this. Freddie was checked by two midwives and the paediatrician at the hospital and they all said he didn't have a tie. A week later when I was at my wit's end still trying to get him to latch properly, I saw a midwife who specialises in snipping tongue ties, she confirmed he had one and sorted it out the next day. I've found weaning quite a slow process - it really does take a while for them to build up to eating a decent, varied amount. Sweet potato makes nice wedges and quicker to cook than normal potato. Cubes of roasted squash are also very easy. Polenta chips are easy too but add some cheese else they taste of nothing. Check out the baby led weaning site for finger food ideas.
