    [QUOTE=martafdz;
And sorry for too many questions, the week by week book says I should put her to nap in her cot at certain times to get her used to napping at those times. It also says eventually she will sleep 2-3h for midday nap... My lo sleeps 3-5 times during the day, but only for half an hour each time and no way I can put her in the cot to sleep whilst she's awake, I need to make her sleepy or put her asleep. When did your lo start having long naps? When were you able to put them down to sleep? How did you manage it? I'm trying the gentle way, where you put them sleepy and they fall asleep on their own but I had only little success and only in her moses, we have just assembled the cotbed, so I'll have to start all over again!!![/QUOTE]

My little one is 18 months and never really had long naps when little, always gone two hrs between feeds only recently has it stretched to around three , he now has about an hour twice a day , or one two hr nap early afternoon depends on what we are doing , Once you have put the cot up if they are used to the Moses baskets leave them in it inside the cot for a few times so they get used to being in the cot . I did this with my older two , but little one now co sleeps with us since he was about six weeks old

Doing my favourite thing (cooking whilst drinking chablis) for my favourite people (husband, son) whilst listening to my favourite album (Kate Bush's Ariel). Before I knew I could have a Freddie, I always dreamt of this moment. It's been many years coming and I don't believe I've ever been happier :)

You can't actually argue with my mother - she was obviously in and out of the labour suite when I was being admitted and readmitted... at one point was making her usual "jokes" with the sensitivity of a housebrick and criticising me... the student midwife who was in there was horrified at her behaviour and when she'd gone admitted to me that the blood pressure reading they'd just done was off the scale (and I normally have resolutely normal blood pressure)... tried to have it out with her about how I'm sick of being labelled a neurotic mother by her and it descended into a 3 hour weeping and wailing storm about my utter ingratitude as a daughter (this is usual - me asking her not to open my post resulted in a 4 year sulk)... very much have to take the path of least resistance with her or life's intolerable!

Mothers. Who'd have 'em? Apart from our kids, of course :D

Get your midwife to support you, dizzi. That's what she's for.

I have the cosatto Yo! Black jack. I know you are leaning towards the Obaby but just wanted to let you know I have found the cosatto fab. It folds up quite small and the cosy toes attaches really well (doesn't slide down) I'm pretty sure it comes with a 4 year guarantee too, by which time Noah will be walking everywhere. It seems a really comfy pushchair and easy to push.

1 thing I will say though is I have NEVER been able to get the rain cover back in the little bag they give you!! :) It's like the bloody krypton factor!
    X

We've got a second-hand Cosatto buggy as a one to take general abuse and be left in the car - although it's just an umbrella fold double stroller - it's really well built by usual umbrella fold standards... can't use it as a main buggy since it won't come down the side alley into our house and you can't get in and out of our front doors unless you climb up the stairs few to get the door open inwards, but it's a good little bit of kit. As for rain covers - I was desperately holding off ever opening the one on our B-Dual as I'd heard how legendarily huge it was and how much space it took up once opened - but my mum did when she was babysitting - gah! The only rain cover I've ever found that folded back into its original form was on my old iCandy.

And yeah marta - I never did do the babygros thing last time round either - mainly as I seem to have babies that either have ridiculously disproportionately long legs in Erin's case, or arms in Robyn's case so getting babygros that fit acceptably in all limbs plus body is a flipping nightmare! (Primark's about the closest I've found but after months of it I'm sick of their stock 5-6 babygro designs for girls) Plus Erin had really bad day/night confusion and it was part of sorting that out in her head and it's just a habit I've stuck to - both babies fed and changed into day clothes and downstairs first thing, and pyjamas on after teatime/teatime-ish feed. The fact I have an absolute mountain of Next clothes in newborn and 0-3 is a pleasant coincidence as well (I got absolutely tonnes handed down from a tutoring mum who'd had three girls)!

Going to be a bumper day at the charity shop when I start getting rid of stuff! Need to work out what to do with the preemie sized clothes now since Robyn fits newborn... there's a couple of things I don't think I can bring myself to pass on - tempted to look into a memory bear with them but not sure we can justify the expense with a leaking loo to sort out! (Nice one to come out of hospital to that one!)

Need to email the council and complain actually - our local bus service which was an utter lifeline to me (it ran past the bottom of our street, down the stupidly large hill into our local village centre, past the children's centre which is a 45 min walk there, probably an hour and a half back at the speed I walk past, past the leisure centre, dentist, local park, hospital and into town, plus Tesco once an hour) got pulled recently as the bus company was going under... when they finally crashed completely other companies jumped in to cover all the other routes but we got some hotchpotch half solution from the local council's buses - that does the village centre and Tesco only... on completely un-pushchair accessible buses. I've still got some issues with no strength at all in my core muscles, and very little in my hips and pelvis from how bad my SPD got - so walking huge distances is a no-go at the moment (plus hubby's got a very good chance of getting a job at a different work site so I won't be able to have the car at all then)... and the bus is now eff all use to me - and since the local council keep pointedly requesting views as to the replacement bus solution - I'm tempted to give 'em both barrels! Not as if I can get on and fold the buggy down either - the buses have no space to even store a folded buggy!

Aww Fluff, that brought a tear to my eye. It's so easy to get caught up in the exhausting day to day baby stuff and forget how lucky we are to have our little people :D

PS: I love Kate Bush :)

Marta, when it comes to naps (as with so many other things!), don't believe everything a book says. Some babies do eventually sleep for 2 or 3 hours in one go (mine did every afternoon for several months, so every activity and appointment had to happen in the mornings), but many don't. Some prefer more frequent and shorter naps. As for the set time, I don't believe in that either - you'll probably find some sort of rough pattern that you could aim to stick to, but I honestly don't believe you can get a baby to nap to a schedule :o I think what matters is that she sleeps when she's tired.

My LO hated the moses basket and started sleeping better once we moved her to the cot at around 12 weeks. I think it was also around that time that we started being able to put her down sleepy but awake, but it still took a fair amount of singing, patting her head etc. for a while. I found that holding onto her for a while (whilst she was lying in her cot) also helped - then I'd slowly and gradually move away. Ewan also worked - she started associating it with sleep time and would start yawning as soon as she heard it!

My LO used to have an ~2-2.5 hour nap in the middle of the day when she was smaller (less than three months I think) and slept loads but now at eight months she has one or two naps totalling a maximum of two hours so I don't think she is ever going to have a 2-3 hour nap. She only sleeps around 11 hours in 24 so I usually wake her once she's had two hours (if she's sleeps that long!) as otherwise I'd be up all night. She also almost always feeds or is rocked to sleep. In contrast, her sister always had at least a two hour nap right up until she stopped napping when she was two and was rarely fed or rocked to sleep. Every baby is different and there are no set patterns or rules.

Dizzi... re the preemie clothes. Have you considered donating them to the hospital? I know they'd be very much appreciated (the SCBU staff here told me so) :)

with books is good to know what to expect BUT as other people say babies do not read the books and are unique people. I tried swaddling after readings tons of info about they liking it, it helps them settle etc... she will not have it, scream murder if her arms are restrictive.
Pleased to say that my baby true personality is finally showing, J sleeps in the basket since 2 weeks ago and in the ,last three days shes been so pleaseant, smiles to everyone and will let people comfort her and even replies to us when we talk to her. Cries if she wants to be put to sleep, dirt nappy, wants to be fed or wind but thats it, gosh i even bought a hair dye cos i will have a chance to do it between naps:)
Nights are still the same, but hopefully as she grows, she will sleep more in one go.
    Good night everyone.
