Am wondering if I should cut out LO's afternoon bottle - she's 10 and a half months, so I'm thinking she should only be having her morning and evening bottles now? When did others get rid of the third bottle, and what did you replace it with? I'm thinking I could add an afternoon snack, although I would need to speak to the nursery, as she has lunch there at 11.30am and dinner at 4pm, and there's no way she could go that long without food... She currently has a bottle at 2pm.

I cut it out about the late 10 month mark (it was still in when I wrote the instructions with her daily routine for if I ended up in hospital so it would have been pretty recentish) when I suspected she was very much in the "would be rude to refuse since you're offering" mode better seen in a woman offered a choccie biscuit (she'd also climbed the centiles a lot - expected from her prematurity and length - but because she was a late crawler I was keeping a real eye on her weight gain).

Replaced it with a small snack and a drink of water - usually something like a piece of fruit or very occasionally a biscotti (or if grandma's babysitting - chocolate cake and god knows what else - good job I'm laid back!) and a drink of water and she's been fine with that... doesn't always get the snack these days but generally manages to scrounge something of whatever I'm eating mid-afternoon anyway but that's since we've made a bit of a concious decision to move dinner time to nearer 4pm than the 6pm it was drifting towards as stuff bogged us down in the evenings (needed to move the meal anyway as Robyn needs a feed about 5pm and I can't do two things at once!)

Another food question... I'm worried that she eats too much. I'm taking her to get weighed on Tuesday, but my hunch (and OH agrees) is that she's put on too much weight. As an example, if I make French toast, she'll happily eat two slices (and fruit too if offered) - that's an adult sized portion  As a snack, she can easily eat two or three biscotti and a satsuma. Compared to what Dizzi's just mentioned, that sounds like a lot!?... What kinds of portion sizes do others have? I'm wondering if I need to start reducing them :o

Going to start switching Erin to cow's milk when she's 1 a week on Tuesday - run down the remaining formula stock gradually changing over and then I'm not planning on sterilising her bottles (she won't take milk from a beaker - since she'll take water from one happily I'm disinclined to fight that battle at the moment when she's got a younger sibling's arrival to deal with) - can get some space in the steriliser to not need to do all Robyn's in the microwave then!

Same here...Aiden loves his beaker for water, but for milk it has to be a bottle :)

As far as I know it is just one, there's two boosters that a lot of places put together with it. I've asked to do the boosters separately and they were happy to do it.

Yes sorry, MMR is one, but my surgery did MMR plus boosters so all in all it was three jabs. I didnt realise until after, but personally I'd rather just get it out of the way for him and me! Plus baby clinic and injections are always on a Tuesday which meant I had to take half a days leave which was a bit of a pain :) x

There's also the factor that spilt water doesn't stink, spilt sour milk when you can't get it all cleaned up is a vile vile vile smell (my mum spilt a bottle of milk on the way home from the supermarket in a car once and we only got rid of the smell by selling the car) so if anything's gonna be drunk in as non-spill a format as possible - it's going to be milk!

We cut out his afternoon bottle when he started nursery, so I think he was about 9 months, he wasn't fussed with it and I think he was easily distracted by the other babies so it was easy enough to drop it.
It was replaced with snack at nursery and when he is with us. On a nursery day he has lunch at 11:30, snack at 2:00 and tea at 4:30, then he just has a small snack when we get him home. The snack at nursery is only something like a cracker with some cheese spread or a bit of fruit perhaps but it seems to keep him going till tea.

I had the opposite problem in that Aiden is a fantastic eater and will eat anything I give him, but only small amounts. I was a bit concerned at his 9 month check but they didn't seem to be, he has dropped to just over the 50th centile when I got him weighed before his jabs (used to be on 91st) but apparently thats quite common now he is moving more and walking.

Portion size, I would say I serve the size of maybe 1 and a half to 2 weetabix, but he eats about 1 - if that makes sense? But then he will eat a few grapes or pieces of mango, and about half a yoghurt. As I say, he grazes lol.

Has your LO always had a big appetite, and followed a higher centile? I wouldn't be too concerned if thats how she has always been, and once she is up and about she will most likely burn off what she is eating. Do you think she eats it just because it is there, i.e. if you gave her a smaller portion would she cry for more? I'm sure the HV will be able to put your mind at rest. xxx

Does she actually seem overweight, or are you just worried she eats too much? My eldest has always eaten loads, but he grows like a rocket! He also used to grow in stages, so he'd podge out a bit, then whoosh upwards. Looking at one point he'd seem overweight, then the upwards spurt would come and he'd be fine again.

I don't know whether it's different with bottle feeding as I breastfeed but with my eldest, I gradually stopped offering a feed as a routine thing once she started being fussy about that feed. If she requested it I would feed her but usually she didn't request it many times after I stopped offering. She dropped the fifth at about one year, the fourth at 1 1/2, the third at 2, second at 2 1/2 and the last one a couple of months before she turned three. (Current LO is only eight months and much hungrier than her sister and we do BLW so she still has a million feeds a day.)

My eldest wasn't eating much at that age because we did BLW but the younger they are the bigger their appetite is relative to their body size (hence why newborns feed so frequently) so what seems like huge portions to us isn't necessarily as big as we might think. Also, I know that with toddlers (so presumably with babies too), appetite for food can be variable so is best taken over the course of a week rather than observing one day or one meal - I can remember my eldest at age two sometimes eating as much for breakfast as she ate in an entire day at other times. Unless her weight is going up the centiles significantly relative to her height, I probably wouldn't be concerned.
