    Hi all :)

Day three and all's well ;)

Went to see the nurse today, she recognised me from last time :o .. told her the truth though and she said it was quite common.. suggested this time to ween myself off the tablets after twelve weeks rather than just stop dead. Already thinking that far ahead ... no stopping me this time :D

Right just putting the brakes on ... as Lula and Sue say .. one day at a time
Got my lollies (just sucking on a stick at the mo  ), glucose & vit c tablets and all set :)

American dreamer, I can't remember how I felt last time at five weeks so, like Sue says, Madmoney is probably the best to answer.. but here's a list of the "official" benefits that might give you some pointers?
8 hours Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood reduce by half, oxygen levels return to normal. Circulation improves.

24 hours Carbon monoxide and nicotine eliminated from the body.

48 hours The decline in lung function and excess risk of lung cancer halts.

72 hours Breathing easier. Bronchial tubes begin to relax and energy levels increase

1 month Appearance improves – skin loses its grayish pallor and becomes less wrinkled

3 - 9 months Coughs and wheezing declines

1 year The excess risk of a heart attack reduces by half compared to that of a smoker.

15 years Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.

Apologies for re posting them .. i'm sure they've been shown a lot of times already but it's such a big thread it can't hurt to have them again?

Hi Waspeze! I think your Nurse is very right about weaning yourself gently rather than just stopping, makes far more sense and better able for you to succeed this time - as I know you're going to!!!:j A great idea with the lollies too.

No need to apologise about putting the from 8 hours - 15 years events for us non smokers on here again. It's a darned good idea of you ask me as it's of great interest to new folk quitting, more figures to urge them on! Well done Waspeze!!! :T

Well done you too Schmickle!!!! :T It was really good to see you're already at 3 weeks!!! What have you been doing to yourself to be in such pain though? Take care of yourself now you're back to work.

Good for you Mintoze, not saying too much about yourself, but so good to see you encouraging others! :D You too feed!! It's always wonderful to see you back and remind ourselves of another terrific success! You and Lula have achieved so much between yourselves and should be as proud as proud can be!! :j You both must have saved SO much money..... any chance of a sub??? :rotfl:

All best wishes to EVERYONE giving up... and all those lurking and thinking about it. Make your wishes come true and join us.:D

    Afternoon all :)

Just over half way through day four and struggling a bit today :(

Weird how the nicotine is supposedly out of my system so the physical addiction has gone but it's actually worse than when it was still in me?

Had a fight with one of my lollies earlier.. not a pleasant site, my work colleague had to take it off me to open it as I couldn't and she wouldn't lend me her scissors :o
I thought us blokes were supposed to be good at opening things??
Must have been the lack of nails:cool: (my excuse anyway!)

Off to a gig on friday down here in cloudy brighton so have something to look forward to .. it's a couple of my mates and only costs about £1 to get in which is a bit of a result :D will probably walk there to get some [strike]fresh sea air[/strike] petrol fumes in my lungs!

Good to hear from you Feedum .. 8 months already?? really well done you

Lula .. good to know you've got a watchful eye on me 3doeil2.gifwill hopefully keep me out of trouble and steer me away from the dark side

Well done everyone on your respective non smoker days :j :T :j

I started again after about twelve weeks last time :( so can't answer from personal experience.

I know my dad (given up about 5 years after smoking for about 50) says that even now he gets the urge but it does get a lot less, more of a little whisper in the back of your head.. at the moment for me it's shouting, I guess for you, themammy, it's more of a light conversation? :)

Waspeze some days are worse than others as you must know having gone 12 weeks in your last attempt. Good luck hopefully this time you will crack it!!

    Thankyou :)

Yep, I do remember.. hopefully it'll help a bit knowing what to expect!

Good luck to you too.. my only word of advice (not saying you will but just from what happened to me) is don't get complacent, I made that mistake and keep beating myself up about it!

    Hi everyone,

sorry you had a tough one today Waspeze, if it's any consolation so did I :o .
After an hour of trying to deal with tax credit people & local authority people who will not talk to eachother  I was in tears of frustration & to be completely honest if there had been a cig in the house i would probably have attempted to smoke it. Fortunately there wasnt, because as i found out from the last time I had a couple of tokes it makes you feel really really sick & green for hours :(.

The moment passed very quickly but it just shows that the memory of smoking remains in the brain for ages, so as previously posted ; beware complacency  .

    Well done everyone :A

Hi themammy and after 12 glorious weeks of being smoke free, very many congratulations on doing so well for so long!!!! :T You've done brilliantly so far, but as Waspeze and Lula point out, don't let yourself get complacent in anyway. We're not indicating that you will, good Heavens no...:naughty:, it's just something we all need to be aware of at that stage.

Waspeze answered your question above in a wonderful way, it is true that the further away we get the less we get those feelings and - if you do get them further down the track, they so swiftly disappear, it's amazing. Dr Chris Steele once said on TV that when we've given up we may still get slight cravings (or what can be best described as cravings) but that it's amazing how few seconds they last. To be honest, I scoffed (I was still puffing, but thinking hard about quitting) at it then, but he was so right. Now 10 years on, I can occasionally get the feeling that something's "missing" ..there's something I need to do, and for the life of me for a few seconds I can't think what the heck it is. Then it clicks in, it's that very slight feeling that I should have a ciggy! As quick as it comes .....it's gone! To make it a little easier for now, try changing your morning (or whichever times affect you) routine just a little, it'll help. The best thing to do at those times though, is ......have a glassful of water!!!!!:D

Bad luck Waspeze. I really do hope that tomorrow things might just be a lot easier to deal with. Each day further away from that 'orrible, smelly, disgusting habit :( can make a lot of difference and really put a spring in your step and a smile on your face. IF it doesn't happen in the morning ........I won't be showing up here!!!!!! :o :snow_laug Keep strong Waspeze, you WILL see it through this time - even if we need to drag you through!!! :D

I hope it's a better day for you too Lula, blasted people in power. The term left from right hand quickly came to mind when I read your post! :rolleyes2 Thanks goodness you never had a cig in the house - though I'll bet a bob you wouldn't have touched it anyway, not if it really came to the crunch. You'd have see us all glowering at you with "you dare!!!!" looks on our faces!!!

Bear that in mind folks and battle on with renewed strength at whichever stage of quitting ....or thinking about it you're at!
