The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Well, it seems there are a multitude of quit smoking remedies popping up recently, the electronic cigarette for one. And a new drink called liquid smoking is supposed to help you curb your addictions just by drinking it.
At the end of the day, it's just all about willpower. Someone I know who is trying to lose weight drinks slimfast AND has a pack of crisps with it.0 -
Just when you think they can't come up with another alternative to smoking, along comes the electronic fag & liquid smoke. What next! Presumably these are produced by the baccy firms to compensate for loss of sales.
Well, I've done a week now and beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Well done everyone else as well. It's a huge achievement.
What's keeping me going is that I really wouldn't want to give up again. The more attempts you make, the harder it becomes to stop. BEWARE!
My 40-a-day brother is staying with us and he's well impressed. He has an arrangement with some of his friends that they all stop on 4th Jan. Personally I think he might find it easier to try sooner rather than later all on his own without outside pressure. I also told him that it's helped me picking a busy 2-week period, so there's no time to sit around and mope. (I can be very good at that!)
Anyway, keep going everyone - and, to coin a phrase, you're worth it!0 -
Day one :j ( )
Decided against stopping on the 15th as was out a lot and at the pub so figured i'd start (stopping) today as at work and a bit easier.
Haven't bitten anyones head of yet but only been up 5 hours
Well done to everyone on your individual achievements tis great !

Well done Waspeze! You've taken the first and most important (and possibly the hardest) step of all and that is to follow through your decision to stop. Keep busy, and I found it helped to socialise as I felt very pious amongst the smokers!!0

Well done Mintoze, its a bit of a challenge around smokers isn't it? You did really well. :j
You can do it Waspeze, keep posting on here.
It's day 14 for me, this is now the longest period I have not smoked for 27 years!!. I went to Tai Chi today as I haven't done any exercise for years either! For some reason I am not fat, I think because I was never hungry due to the nicotine. I know that I may start putting on weight now however.
I recommend Tai Chi to all those who can't face the Gym at the moment or who haven't exercised for a long time. It is relaxing and you don't feel inadequate.
I have been without the inhalator for 2 days now. Sometimes I think about having a cigarette but it doesn't have the same appeal now. I still feel weird around smokers, I feel like I should be doing something with my hands.
Keep going everyone:A

I am quiting tonight and really looking forward to the challenge. I can't wait to reap all the benefits of being smoke free. I will be posting throughout the coming weeks in my diary.

Good for you with getting that first week behind you Mintoze! :T I'm thrilled that you feel you're finally starting to get there with it, you're right about it becoming harder each time you try to. I have to admit to agreeing with you about your brother, it's far better to do it by yourself without any pressures, but he has to find his own way. Who knows just how much of an influence you'll have been when he returns home though!
Well done Waspeze! Let's hope this is the last time you need to quit, and I honestly think it will be as you've been so very determined. Very wise to delay it with being around pubs. Now I wish you all the luck you'd wish yourself and look forward to the end results!!! :jIt's day 14 for me, this is now the longest period I have not smoked for 27 years!!. Congratulations Kate!!! That is really wonderful news, and especially about the lack of the inhalator and considering the tests you've had you really are doing so well. :TGood luck with the Tai Chi, keep at it as it can only do you good. Re the 2nd paragraph quoted When feeling weird around smokers and not knowing what to do with your hands - try their necks!!It should work! Seriously, take a set of keys with you, or something rubbery, even if you just put them in your pocket to 'play' with you'd be amazed how it helps.
Hi and a warm welcome to the thread American Dreamer! We'll look forward to your posts and to giving you a hand should you need it. Keep focusing on the benefits which are mainly your health and your wealth,:j though you won't smell of stale smoke any more either and it's amazing how quick we all are in noticing that.
The very best of luck to you....and to everyone, you CAN all do it and will achieve your goal if you keep on staying strong. Congratulations to you Lula, 20 weeks is a LONG time, you've done brilliantly and it's always SO good to see you!!! Keep coming back!
