Another drum roll please......it was my 6 month anniversary yesterday! :j

Smoking is so much NOT a part of my life I completely forgot how long it had been since I stopped until the alarm went off on my mobile (I set the calendar date 6 months ahead the day I quit to see if I had managed to still not be smoking) :rotfl:

Hope this is of some help to anyone thinking of quitting, good luck, YOU CAN DO IT!:T

VERY MANY CONGRATULATIONS ExNicotineQueen!!!!! You made it through and that is fantastic news. I bet you feel like a new person after all that time without. You finally regained your life and good health, very, very well done indeed!

Thanks so very much for telling us as it will be such great motivation for all of those who are battling or just on starting to quit. Many thanks indeed.

....and so you should be Taxi!!!!! :T Excellent news that I was really thrilled to read. I have to admit that my eyebrows shot up in absolute delight because when you were here last you really did sound as though you were fed up with it so I've just been waiting for you to come back with an update. Do keep up that GREAT work Taxi and make THIS time the time it worked for you!

The very best of luck, it'll bring rewards if you remain firm.

  • Hi guys, well good news and bad news today, my original stop smoking date was the 4th october, but as i work so many hours, i cant get to the session at the docs until monday which will be the 6th october!! The good news is that i had a really stressful day at work and managed to have just 5 cigarettes all day, that is an absoute first for me, as i normally smoke between 20 and 30, i know its not exactly fantastic but to me it just feels like ive jumped a hurdle!!
My question is do i go cold turkey on monday morning? Or do i wait until after my appointment to stop? Coz im thinking i will need some sort of patch/gum ?
    Any replies would be appreciated

    a very confused mm

Hi mm! Believe me if you can manage on JUST 5 ciggies all day after being used to smoking between 20 and 30 then that IS fantastic news and don't let anyone else tell you differently!! No wonder it feels as though you jumped a hurdle!! :T

To answer your question (or try to) why not start out going cold turkey but also go to the doc as planned for either patches or gum so you have a safety net if you should need it. If you stick to all the tips (water, orange juice, apples, carrots etc) then you may well be ok ~ BUT ~ should you start to think "I really just can't do this" then whatever you do, don't throw the chance to quit away, reach for whatever your doc gives you and get through it.

The main thing is that you achieve your goal and QUIT for good and once you've done that you will be thrilled to bits at such a great achievement. :D See if you can get by on the 5 again tomorrow (today) IF you can keep that up then it'll be terrific for you.

Keep that strength up mm, you know you can do it! Good luck.

Hi all. Well done everyone so far. You're all doing really well.
I've been stopped 10 months today and I feel so much better for it. I haven't managed to convert my OH yet, but i'm still trying to.
I went cold turkey on 1st december 2007 and it's a great feeling getting to 10 months. can't wait for the 12 month milestone to arrive.
    Continued good luck to all.

Madmoney- I bet you dont find it too hard if OH stood outside in howling gale / driving rain / freezing sleet etc. etc. etc. while you are snug & warm inside !

    Only 4 ? You're lapping this up - well done :)

I'm delighted for you as that's a great success, but I can well remember what that 1 year felt like so know all too well how you're willing it on. Fantastic news Cath, you've done yourself proud! That's another amazing day you've had madmoney, very well done ideed!! Just think of the money you've already saved! However, please - whatever you do - don't get fooled into thinking "well if hubby still smokes I shan't be able to give it up, so if I keep it to 4 or 5 a day it'll be ok." Becaue, long term that will not work and you'll gradually creep back up and be back to where you started..... and so, so disappointed with all that wasted time.

Let hubby go on outside for his, but ask him to please wash his hands when he comes back in (.....as well as have a shower, wash his hair, clean his teeth  :D:D:D) Actually, another tip if you have any cravings IS to brush your teeth, it's another that helped me.

Good luck with tomorrow mm, keep up that GREAT work!

Keep up the great work everyone!
