It's funny how you hardly ever smell smoke on yourself, but even when smoking I could usually smell it on others!

Now smoke free for nearly 10 months.
I've just seen something else you posted AB, about days turning into months then years and you're so right. My car's just gone titsup, nothing major I just need a small part I can't get till next week. I've been out on the buses today to get the other bits I need and before I would not only have smoked my head off but also drank Colombia dry by buying coffees to go with the smokes. It helps that I hardly saw anyone else smoking, and definitely not close to me.

Congratulations Taxi!!! :rotfl:It's quite amazing just how Champix has finally allowed you to succeed! Not long to go now until that wonderful 5th week then!:D:j

After having a few very quiet days on here (not bad news I hope, but just a lull) it's so good that you lads have all come on, so thrilled at your achievements - which are AMAZING!!! :T:T:T I'm delighted for all of you especially for your health, plus it's so very good to have positive feedback left for all the others to aspire to and I'm really pleased you've taken the time!

I was really pleased to read about your wife AB as I remembered yesterday that she too had quit all that time ago, very well done indeed for her, for sister-in-law and brother- in-law also! Bit of a domino effect going on there maybe - whatever it was it worked brilliantly!!! :T

Wonderful work TNG and shinyhead, you've both done amazingly well and have got your lives back from the evil weed too!:T:j It's amazing how we've all turned into the holier than thou brigade, but I think it would be hard not to as you never truly realise just what you're doing to yourself - until you've quit and then you so wish it for everyone else! The trouble is that we know the benefits, whereas they've still yet to find out!!!

Keep counting those weeks (Taxi) months and years guys, you've come such a long and should be so very, VERY proud of yourselves!!!! :D

All the very best to you all.

  • Hey, I'm new here!
From Australia, and today is my 7th day of non-smoking!

I'm 17 and have been smoking since I was 14, which sounds bad but I was young for my year and was actually in year 10!

My incentive to stop was my dramatically reduced lung capacity and constant onslaught of colds/coughs that came with smoking.

Yes I enjoyed it like everybody else and absolutely LOVED certain times of the day and on many special occasions however I genuinely think my body wasn't designed for smoking.

I have had many full check ups so nothing can be wrong, but I have had a persistent chest pain for a couple of months and whilst I run a stressful business it seemed smoking wasn't helping that pain.

That said, I am still feeling rather stressed. Today has been the hardest day so far. I am struggling with sleep and whenever I finally get to sleep I dream I've relapsed! Not fun and quite distressing.

I used Allen Carr's book so am trying to keep all that in mind but today, the 7th day, has been hard. I think it is the realisation that it is forever that kicks you when you're down, and I need to come to terms with that.

I have got a virus, which I guess is my body trying to clean out all the gunk but I need to stay strong. This thread is great.

Look forward to discussing with all of you in the future!

Just what I needed to read. After having two chesty colds in 3 weeks, my daughter (13) said cant you stop smoking for just one day, so I said OK, slapped a patch on (id had one at this point). Just one day I thought, I found myself thinking about cigs constantly looked at the clock and it was only 2 hours. I go longer at work without even thinking about it. Im going to try tomorrow aswell, ive stopped before many times (once for two years) but at 42 I realise my days are numbered if I dont quit now.

This is the first time Ive heard about Chamix, might discuss this with the doctor, Zyban made me depressed and aggressive, and reading up on it this is also a possible side effect, so ill give that some thought.

Well done, keep going you should be proud of your self, Im presuming you are male. My biggest regret apart from the obvious (i started at 18, now 42) is the ageing part, I look older than alot of people my age, my face is wrinkled expcially around the mouth, and always look grey no matter what I do with the make up.

Hi josh and a warm welcome to the Forum and to this thread! I'm so pleased that, unlike most youngsters, you've already realised all the perils of smoking and are intent on doing something about it. Well done and many congratulations for achieving your first week smoke free!!!!:T That first week is every quitter's first milestone and you've made it through, so whatever you do, don't turn back or you will end up hating yourself!!! :o

The sleep problems are fairly common, but as with all the problems experienced with quitters, it's short lived. It may happen every now and again until we've convinced that nasty friend that we're through with it for good ;) but then it'll go and all will be well. You're quite right about the virus and your bodies way of clearing the muck out.

You sound a very sensible lad indeed and I'm so pleased you like the thread, come on here whenever you're wanting to have a moan or finding things a little hard, we'll support you as much as we possibly can. You can also let us know about your successes, they're always a joy to read about and it's so good to hear from another that they've made it through!

Get over this momentary hiccup, keep reading the AC book and reminding yourself WHY you're quitting and you'll soon find that you're feeling a new person and thrilled at your success! :j All the very best for your new future Josh! :D

Hi ela and a warm welcome to the thread! Keep reading through the thread and you'll find we've had so many successes, past and present, we also have many who are in the process of quitting and doing VERY well indeed. We've also had many successes with Champix, so to have a word with your doctor is a great idea. Anything you find that works for you is what to go for.

It's amazing how our youngsters can spur us on to quit the evils of smoking and your young lass has a very wise head on her shoulders!!! :T Most of us find it far easier to go longer at work without even thinking about it, there's much more on our minds then and time passes far faster. So go for that 2nd day and ...with luck and perseverance you'll soon find yourself through your first week - and chuffed to bits at the distance you've travelled!

You've quit for 2 years before which is amazing, but if you get that far this time please - don' let anything turn you back to being a smoker as you'll have one very unhappy daughter for sure! Go on ela, show her and youself that you CAN and WILL succeed for good this time!!!:D Keep coming on and telling us how your're doing, it helps you so much, others too!;)

All the very best of luck.
