. I did have a couple of glitches early on and posted on here and got some amazing support, and i did not succumb! Anyway dont ever think about it now personally, my DH is hoping to quit soon so I'm not looking forward to that (moody so and so!). Thanks folks for the support and for the new guys keep up the good work! x

Hi again Kandipandi, that was music to my ears (well, along a similar vein anyway!) and many, many congratulations to you in coming so far as you have!!! :T :j You've done brilliantly in the time since you were last here so I hope you're as proud as you possibly could be, you certainly should be. I was really pleased that you've reached the stage where you barely think about, that is great news!
You never know with your DH though, as spurred on by your success he may just find it fairly easy to do, I really do hope so as both of you would have much better health - and think of all that money saved each year!!!Give him all the support possible and tell him he's welcome to chat (through your membership or his own) to us all here whenever he wishes. We've several guys here, some in the process and at least 5 having quit already.
Good luck to you both Kandipandi, YOU are doing marvellously! :T

Ive done it. 2 days smoke free. Might not sound like much to you guys but I know with absolute certainty that I will never take another puff in my life, and Im actually relishing the cravings, as I know that its just the nicotine monster in his death throes;) As some of you may be able to tell, I have read Allen Carrs Easyway!
I started on Champix on Monday, with trepidation, fear, sickness etc. Tried to have a cig n felt sick, but then I was fine all day, and as any smoker knows, you would rather feel sick than go without a cig. Had a massive headache all week so was gutted that it wasnt going to work for me, altho I know quite a few ppl who it has worked for.
Anyways, in despair i foned my mum up, and she came straight down with the book, I read it in a day and a half and havent wanted to smoke since!!!! I cant remember what time I had my last cg and I dont really care, all I know is that Im finally free:D
I would tell anyone wanting to stop smoking to read Allen Carr, he has literally saved my life.:T

I read the book twice and haven't had a cigarette since 23rd August. It feels so good to know I've finally kicked the habit after 12 years. Every weekend I think "That's another week without a cigarette" and I don't want to break that by having one and go back to "That's one week without a cigarette" etc.
I did keep expecting something to happen as Allen mentions, and was disappointed when it didn't but that passed after the first few weeks.
Well done again :T0 -
thanks squirreler!!! yeah i think im prepared for that tho!!!!LBM 29/07/ 07

Hey everyone,
Thanks for your support and kind words!
2 weeks today and I haven't cracked. I've also been up against almost every scenario where I chain smoked in the past and have made it through without a puff. I no longer crave a cigarette although I miss being able to lie under the summer sun (now that it's back) with a cigarette and beer - but I know in the long run it's short term fulfillment (if you could even call it that) and I'm better off having quit.
I'll touch base here from time to time, but thanks again for all your support.
Many thanks,
Josh0 -
Very well done Josh!!!!:T Two weeks is a LONG time and a great amount of cigs NOT smoked. You've done brilliantly, we're all so very proud of you and your success.
It would be so good if you do come every so often to tell us how you're doing as we rely on folk such as yourself to boost the moral of others. The association of cigs and beer etc WILL very soon pass and it'll become a thing of the past.
Congratulations Josh! :T Best mention to others that you come from Australia just in case they think you're hallucinating about the sun! Keep up that great work Josh!!!

Hiya Kris and a very warm welcome to the thread. You haven't 'gone on a bit' at all, we need to know a little about you as it all helps us to help you.
It sounds as though you really want to commit yourself, but all the 'what if's' and associating ciggies and other things (drinks, people etc) are becoming a struggle for you. Still, all in all, you still come over as being determined to get there sooner or later. So, you're right ....why NOT now!
Change your habits around and ask brother or BF to definately go outside for ALL their smokes and leave you to quit in peace. If your BF really wants to support you get him to clean his teeth or at least, freshen up his mouth with mint gum or a mouthwash when he comes back in. You may well entice him (and bro) before long ....so why not become that great example they both need!!!
Now to decide whether to go cold turkey or to use something to help you ie. Champix, Zyban or gum or inhalors perhaps. Give it some thought and look at the PM I'll send on in a mo, then have a chat with your Doctor or the Nurse at your practice that deals with folk quitting. Both Docs & Nurses can be a great help and will point you in the right direction of what's best for you to start on, one thing's for sure - they'll be delighted to hear your news, even more so if you can succeed!!
If you don't wish to go to the Docs then try Tesco's are your local pharmacy, Tesco's have helped a couple of people on here as they, like your Nurse, will see you each week for a chat and to test your carbon monxide levels ...you'll feel great once they show you with the same readings as a non smoker!:j
Keep drinking PLENTY of water and taking showers/baths as water helps with the cravings AND cleanses you while the showers or baths helps get rid of the muck still coming from the pores of your skin. Orange juice is another way to beat the cravings, but it must be juice NOT squash! Keep away from the beer or anything you associate with cigs whilst you're in the infancy of quitting, once you've quit for good you'll find you can gradually start drinking again. Let your friends go on outside (in all winds and weathers) for their cigs at the pub, you stay in the smoke-free warmth and have another OJ.
Keep chatting to us Kris and don't let too much more time go by before you DO quit, you're still so very young and need to be thinking of your health AND your wealth! Any more queries or help PM me by all means, I'll be only too pleased to help - IF I can! All the very best with your new life when you decide to go for it.
