I agree with the comments about the Allen Carr book, I read it and gave up for 3 months but unfortunately met a bf who smoked and, at the time, had more attraction than Allen Carr. Still - all bad things have to come to an end, kicked him out after 3.5 years and now feel it is time to pick Allen up again !!
I have been reading this thread and feel so much motivation from you guys - well done so far, keep up the good work and I hope it will be me soon saying "i've just completed my first smoke-free day"
Good luck
Hi Saskia and a warm welcome to you too!
To answer your question at the end of the first paragraph - if you feel motivated to quit before your stated date, then YES, go ahead! You quit just as soon as you feel able and keep ticking every day off and saving all the money spent. Put that money into something, a pot or the bank - anywhere where you can watch it grow and KNOW that it's YOU that's not paying it out (wasting it!) any more!
Please read all that I've written to K8te as that will very soon apply to you too!
Good luck Saskia.
<<<<"Sorry Sue - thought it was just me and Oliver here......">>>>
Not a problem Saskia, I expect we were writing at the same time.
Sueoliver2008 wrote:Hi all, I just found this thread, can I join? Im going to the Docs for advice etc about stopping smoking and may well need the support!
Greetings to you too Oliver and a warm welcome to the thread!
Just like K8te and Saskia and everyone else here, you will be most welcome to come on and rant and rave whenever you wish..... Though, we take success stories too and each day over is a great success to brag about! You'll also have plenty of support from us as, above all, we love helping each other out in doing the best thing we've all ever done or are doing... quitting being hooked on that filthy weed!!!
Good luck with starting stopping (!!) as soon as you can Oliver!

No. Sod off.
Just joking!
Hehehe - my wife went out for drinks after work and had a few smokes. She was the one who always pressured me to give up as I was the confirmed smoker.
My goodness, I'm going to get some serious mileage out of this one! I forsee brekkies in bed tomorrow!
Hiya BF109. Another couple of days gone by for you! You're doing brilliantly. Wouldn't it be great if your wife were to quit soon too. I wouldn't mind betting that she does, she just needs the right time for her to come. Definately worth that brekkie though!!! ;-)
Keep it up BF you're going great guns!

Welcome aboard Oliver,
support is pretty good here although not usually many peeps about at the week end.
I quit nearly 11 weeks ago & not on the first attempt so happy to support, encourage or give a stern talking to if needed.
How are you doing ?

After various attempts to quit, I'm now 3 days smoke-free and can't really speak about it to the GF as she's still puffing away and doesn't want smug-me winding her up. The pub yesterday was difficult but I'm determined this time. I suppose I'm here for a bit of support! Maybe that's why I'm wittering on here....
I've tried hypnotherapy and nicotine replacement previously but recently registered with a new GP and he prescribed champix. I've only got 2 days supply left and a bit concerned that come Tuesday, I'll relent. I suppose I'll just have to deal with it at the time. After saying for years, "I'll stop when I'm [insert next birthday]", maybe I'm finally there. I've just had a drink (one step at a time!) and this is usually the time I'm crawling the wall but I'm determined!
Congratulations to everyone that's got over it.0 -

Hi everyone...I had my last cig on Champix last monday so am nearly at a week now.I've tried many times before but Champix is definitely the easiest way.I really think I will do it this time.
Sprouter have you not ordered your next prescription as Champix is a 12 week course?
Well done to everyone so far x0 -
Hello everyone,
welcome aboard to sprouter & taxi73,
Well done to you both, it's the best thing ever - not smoking. In 45 mins I'll have gone 11 weeks  without a stinky stick & I dont even think about it anymore except to pop in here & see how everyone's getting on.
11 weeks probably sounds like forever to those of you starting out but believe me it has whizzed by - well, since about week 6 to be honest - & I am now a non-smoker.
Just in case you have any doubts here's what it's done for me :
I have shed loads more energy
My skin is so much brighter & healthy looking
Food tastes great  - so great that a bit of weight loss currently in progress
I dont smell
My clothes dont smell
My home doesnt smell
My teeth & hair are shiny & clean & fresh
I'm really happy - & proud of what I've achieved
Go on guys, you're gonna love the freedom & yourselves:happyhear

That is a GREAT post Lula, very, very motivating to all who our fresh quitters. Advance praise of that 11 week success! Not too advanced really as the 3/4 hr will possibly be up by the time I've finished this!
A warm welcome sprouter and you're not wittering on at all, it's quite natural to be so pleased with yourself so far. Just keep at it whatever pangs you get, keep reminding yourself of all the reasons to strive on..... and succeed!!!!! I hope your GF soon joins you after she's seen your success! Keep talking to us while you're quitting, that's what we're here for.
Great to see you back Taxi! Now that really is someone who's determined to reach his goal and I really hope that THIS will be that time!!!
Well, it's moreorless Monday now which means K8te & her husband will both be starting out on their new life too very shortly. Possibly Saskia and Oliver even.... maybe?! Time'll tell. Keep hold of that inner strength everyone, we're all rooting for you for as long as it takes!

I agree that was a great post Lula and well done on 11 weeks..great news.
Thanks Sue..definitely going to do it this time as I can't carry on smoking 40 cigs a day..just thinking of how rich I'm going to be is keeping me going...LOL..all those £10 per days mounting up.Must admit Champix is the easiest way ever for me and believe me I've tried every other way.0 -

Two great reasons there Taxi! Imagine all those cigs NOT going into your lungs every day of the week...... month...... year! Enough to help anyone quit. Then to be able to literally count the money being saved must be fantastic!!!
All the very best Taxi and week 2 will soon be beginning and No 1 under your belt already!!! :T
