    Well done all you lot!

We have all decided that we wont be the biggest mugs on earth any more!

It'll be 40 days for me tomorrow. No nicotine. No smoking.

I have started to run in the evenings now also! that really clearing my chest out!

By the way everyone - particularly you old sweats - how long did you have to wait before you cleared your chest of all that gunk? I still have a slight cough in the morning and cough and sneeze lots after hard excercise.

More successes I see, great news all round.

Brilliant news from you Bf109!!! :T :j You've done so well.... and 40 days already?! Marvellous going!

Don't let the coughing worry you at all, at least you're getting rid of all the muck and rubbish now! The running in the evenings will certainly help speed up the process and really clear your chest out! It's all natural after we've been smokers for a good while.

As far as I understand it, much of our sneezing comes from the chest as much as the nose, so again, the more exercise you do the more you're bound to cough and sneeze afterwards. The slight cough in the morning too is as a result of your years of smoking and will very soon disappear.

However, if you have any concerns at all then raise them with your GP. If you have any breathing problems during or after exercise then you may well have mild Asthma and need an inhaler. I do and it works fine. He can check for that with a nebuliser. Also re the coughing and sneezing, it may be as a result of an allergy which has come out as a result of quitting, sounds daft, but another thing which has affected me a little. Have a chat with your Doc and see what he says, far better to put your mind at rest and he/she'll be wanting to praise you anyway! :D

    Congratulations Bf109, you've come a really long way! :T

    No. Sod off.

    Just joking! :p

Hehehe - my wife went out for drinks after work and had a few smokes. She was the one who always pressured me to give up as I was the confirmed smoker.

My goodness, I'm going to get some serious mileage out of this one! I forsee brekkies in bed tomorrow!

If NRT doesnt work for you - it never really worked for me - then I suggest getting Allen Carr's book and reading it. Promise I'm not affiliated to them in any way, but I found it nothing short of miraculous.

Give your NRT your best shot though - lots of people do have great success with it.

  • Hey - can I join too - unfortunately I am still a smoker, BUT i've made the decision to stop on 1st October, joined a couple of the motivational websites and downloaded the Quit Keeper - only 2w 4d 7h and 4m left of this disgusting habit - do you think I could try and trick it and stop sooner !!

I agree with the comments about the Allen Carr book, I read it and gave up for 3 months but unfortunately met a bf who smoked and, at the time, had more attraction than Allen Carr. Still - all bad things have to come to an end, kicked him out after 3.5 years and now feel it is time to pick Allen up again !!

I have been reading this thread and feel so much motivation from you guys - well done so far, keep up the good work and I hope it will be me soon saying "i've just completed my first smoke-free day"

    Good luck
  • Hi all, I just found this thread, can I join? Im going to the Docs for advice etc about stopping smoking and may well need the support!

Hi K8te and hubby and a warm welcome to you both!

With patches, inhalers, Nurse and the love and support that you'll get and give to/from each other I'm really hoping you have a great recipe for success! I do hope so as the money you both save will be amazing...... so will all that good health you regain!!! Whenever you have a sticky moment, come on here and tell us..... when you have moments of glory, tell us about them too as they also spur others on to stay strong - or join in to quit as well.

I'll send on a PM to help a little with tips, some need a few, others sail through it all. You both have each other and that will be so wonderful and will give you the extra strength that many of us lack. If you have any kiddies, then they alone will be your real strength in it all.

Good luck to you both for Monday!!! :-)

    Sue
