Well done Taxi, keep up that strength! You too k8te! You are doing so well and those patches deserve so much credit, I do hope your husband is as successful as you now the Nurse has increased the dose of the patch as for both of you to quit will be brilliant!

Hi Kandipandi! I've been called some things in my time, but a guiding light isn't one of them!!! I'm thrilled to hear you got passed that awful stage ...and by all means do get the Alan Carr book to read, it'll put you off for good I'm sure! I'll also send you a PM of tips that may help .....though now you've come THIS far I can't see you going back and as you said yourself, you're an intelligent woman and can't justify smoking and I don't think you mind will change. Keep strong Kandi ...we'll get you there, though really it'll be YOU that does it!;)

That is EXACTLY what it is Lula
! It even affects me a little every now and again after all these years, never a craving, just something missing - until I realise where my brain is. The next second I'm fine and never think of it for months!:D

Jemima, you're welcome. I think you're quite right about the coffee righting itself after the nicotine has left your system. At this stage though I would only offer one bit of advice; be careful the coffee doesn't add to the stressing as you might even read that as a type of craving in itself. How about trying something different as a hot drink ie. hot chocolate, herbal tea or even bovril etc! Worth thinking about, I'll also send you a PM. Look forward to the passing of the next few days Jemima, you WILL get there!

Yet another day over for you and your wife Daz! Amazing just how the coffee affects us re quitting - I've never drunk it since as it put me right off!!!

OK everyone another day ahead to unite and turn our backs on that evil monstrosity that we DON'T need!!!! Have yorselves a great stress-free day breathing pure fresh air free from all that muck and rubbish! You too spoodz and sprouter!

  • I went to Tesco last night and didnt buy any nicotine stuff but did sign up to their advice thingamebob... not really sure what it is yet, i go and see an advisor once a week and they test the carbon monoxide in my blood to see if I've been smoking or not so i cant cheat (not that i would), and they ask how Im feeling etc. My first appointment is tonight. Has anyone tried this before?

I don't know about it first hand, but have heard that it's good and keeps people from straying and if that's the case then I'm all for it. :D Also, it's GREAT when supermarkets give something back instead of being all take with our money. Good luck Jemima and keep it up. Just try and stay away from any traffic on your way, as that will put your levels up. That happened to "MyFather'sDaughter" a few months ago and she was so upset, but at least she found out what the reason was. I think she went to an NHS clinic for her checks. If you've time to search then it's here on this thread, maybe about half way through. Everyone refers to her as MFD.

    All the best with it.

Hi to you yoxford, it's so good to know that you're still succeeding with quitting too!

Well done and keep it up as it's such a terrific achievement!!!:D

  • Well I have had the appointment with the Pharmacist at Tesco and it was really good. She tested my Carbon-monoxide levels and as i havent smoked now since Monday evening, they were the same as a non-smoker! woo hoo! She also tested my blood pressure which was slightly high but said that was to be expected as I was slightly nervous about seeing her. She has also given me some nicotine patches which she said i should be off within about 4 weeks as each week, she will lower the dose. I know i said i wasnt using anything whcih was working ok, its just i wasnt sleeping very well and getting really ratty so i think the patches will help, even if i dont use them all the time.
Hope everyone else is doing well, thanks for everyones support, cant believe Im over 72 hours in now!

  • Hello,

I'm I first time poster on here & a contemplater (should I/can I?), so please be gentle.

A little bit of background info, I'm 43 & have smoked since I was 19, my hubby smokes & unfortunatley my 18 yr old son aswell, we also have an 11 yr old.

I did try & give up 3/4 yrs ago with patches & managed about 4 months & can't even remember now why it all went wrong. But since then have never tried again. A few reasons why..... always stressed about money or rather lack of it (yes I know smoking doesn't help), no matter what we do it always seems to go wrong & lastly, yet the most hurtful was the loss of my dad in Dec 2006 to lung cancer, he was 61 & to be there, especialy in last week & also when he was finally released from so much pain haunts me.

I know I really need to do this and my question is do you need to be in the right frame of mind and if so how the hell do I get there?

    thanks in advance

    Susieh
