    4 weeks today..

Found it tough going on Saturday as was at a wedding and couldn't really escape the smell etc so we left early before i succombed to temtation. I did have a kebab on Sat night though, something had to give....

Misses Shady has unfortunately fallen off but hopefully will get back on soon.

I have put a stone on now.... I feel great.

Well done to everyone else who is resisting temptation keep it up.

That is brilliant Daz!!! If you can get through times of celebrations such as weddings then you are a committed quitter for sure!! :T Very wise of you to go home before temptation got the better of you, so I reckon you deserved that kebab! It's not very often that someone is chuffed to bits at a weight gain of a....... stone, but it's good to hear you are. Be careful not to not become too thrilled at putting it on though or you may find you've a problem before you realise it. How about trying not to go above that stone mark now.

So sorry to hear about Mrs shady, but encourage her to keep on quitting and all being well some day soon she'll wish to follow your great example. Very well done indeed as 4 weeks is excellent!! You're going to make it Daz, I can feel it in me bones!!:D

    Evening all

Nearly 9 months for me now so time to give something back :D. I was given by a long standing member ( Thanks TNG :T ) a copy of " Easy way to give up smoking " by Allen Carr.
The time has come to pass this on as I believe it belongs to the thread and not to me so the first person from this thread who PM's me their address will recieve the copy of "Easy Way". Only fair to do it first come first served and the book helped me big style.

    Have a good evening

..............anyhow he got down to ten cigs on a weekend when he had a drink. but now over the past few months he is back on like five a day plus(not good for our debt!) and sometimes one after another, the reason he smokes he says is becasue of stress-he just started a new job. and that he enjoys it..............

OK. First thing is that cutting down doesnt help. It just makes it worse.

Secondly, this whole "I smoke because of stress" thing is just nonsense. Non smokers also have stress yet they dont need to choke themselves on burning leaves the whole time. Smoking doesnt releive you of stress. Smoking makes you stressed! Look at the smokers on the street puffing away, or fidgiting during a meal, or on the train, in a museum or gallery or anywhere else that you cant smoke...they are desperate for an opportunity to pop outside and light up. Do they seem relaxed or do they seem stressed? If he gives up he will be less be better able to cope with stress.

Thirdly, no one genuinely enjoys smoking. Smoking is nasty. Ask any smoker about how hard they had to work to get addicted! They had to work hard, force themselves to fight through the coughing and choking. No one likes smoking. Although many people lie to themselves very succesfully that they do.
anyhow ive said time and time again when the baby comes are you still going to stop and he says yes but as my dad says who has been a smoker for 30 years you cant just stop
Read Allen Carr's book. He smoked 100 a day for 33 years and give up just like that. I smoked 40 a day for 17 years and did the same. Your husband can too. He isnt special. He just needs to believe in himself.
any thoughts on what i should do? all my family smoke, my sis in law even smoked throughout her pregnancy and so did my cousins and they are reasonably healthy apart from a few problems.
If you are pregnant then it isnt a laughing matter. The health of your unborn child is at stake here. You need to put your foot down - at the very least he must never ever smoke inside or anywhere near you or the baby.

Get him to read Allen Carr's book!

He has absolutely nothing to lose by just reading a book, does he? He shouldnt feel too threatened by the thought. You can get a copy second hand for less than a fiver inc. p&p. Thats less than the cost of a packet of Lambert and Butlers.

That is BRILLIANT news Bf109!!!!!!! :T:j You are going great guns and should be so very proud of the way you've coped with it. I'm delighted for you!

All you've said above to DebtBgone is so very true, especially about the smoking MAKING smokers stressed, sadly they just don't see it as the cause. Never mind, all being well DebtBgone's OH may just some day make her so very, very happy AND relieved and QUIT!!! If so, I'm sure she'll come back and tell us about it with great joy.

Keep up your terrific work Bf109, you're a credit to yourself, truly you are! :D All the best to everyone else..... wherever you are??? You too dolally! I understand what you mean about rewarding yourself, just do it in tiny measures!! ;)

  • hello,

i'm new to this forum. i gave up smoking four days ago after smoking for ten years - t his is my fourth attempt. I've joined this forum as it's nice that other people know what i#m going through as i#m sure my non-smoking friends are fed of me complainiing! To be fair, I've found it easier this time to give up then before - i'm on patches and the gum.

my boyfriend is still smoking (but not in the house) despite his promises that he would give up. What bothers me is i don't like kissing him anymore! it's like kissing an ashtray and his skin also smells of smoke....has anyone else had the same problem???

Also, yesterday i had one drink (alcohol) and managed to not smoke but does the craving when you drink alcohol go over time? Thanks
