A few minor `blip` moments thanks to varying degrees of alcohol intake but still off them
When you feel like one then a few sharp intakes of fresh air normally does the trick
Keep it up all,,,,, its worth itJune 28th 2008. The day I escaped :beer:0 -
Congratulations on some really great success stories here again! it was so good to hear from you Red, you're doing marvellously! So too are feedumall & sunnyteacake!!! It seems SO long ago that you had your cigs packet left on the table for that first month feedum, it certainly worked for you though! :T It's amazing how so many folk surprise themselves at the successes they never thought achieve ....well done everyone! Many congratulations lamarsi, that's a heck of a time and goes to show just how determined you were, I think we've got many more just like you in the making here!
In fact I'm sure of it!!!:j Not to worry too much about the minor blips IRT1959, do try and plug on from here on though as you too are doing great. You're so right about taking a few sharp intakes of fresh air when you feel like one, at least that's fresh air, which it wouldn't be if you gave way!!!:j
Keep it all up everyone, you're working wonders for yourselves!

hi all!
hope everyone is doing well and well done to everyone who has quit :T0 -
Evening all
Nearly 9 months for me now so time to give something back. I was given by a long standing member ( Thanks TNG :T ) a copy of " Easy way to give up smoking " by Allen Carr.
The time has come to pass this on as I believe it belongs to the thread and not to me so the first person from this thread who PM's me their address will recieve the copy of "Easy Way". Only fair to do it first come first served and the book helped me big style.
Have a good evening

Hi id like some smokers advice if possible please.
as a non smoker i really dont know if im being unreasonable or whatever with my husband as i dont know how hard it is to kick the habit. anyway here is teh situation.....
we are about to have a baby any day now and last year when we got pregnant my OH promised to quit by the time the baby came(he never promises anything normally)
anyhow he got down to ten cigs on a weekend when he had a drink. but now over the past few months he is back on like five a day plus(not good for our debt!) and sometimes one after another, the reason he smokes he says is becasue of stress-he just started a new job. and that he enjoys it!
anyhow ive said time and time again when the baby comes are you still going to stop and he says yes but as my dad says who has been a smoker for 30 years you cant just stop!
I hate smoking i always have but have always put up with it, but now the baby is coming and having lost a brother to cot death the link of smoking and cot death is playing on my mind with my OH sleeping in same room as me and the newborn.
any thoughts on what i should do? all my family smoke, my sis in law even smoked throughout her pregnancy and so did my cousins and they are reasonably healthy apart from a few problems.
would appreciaite any advice sorry for crashing the thread. cheers0 -
Hi DebtBgone and welcome to the Forum and the thread, and please don't worry about crashing the thread as it's still smoking related and is obviously a great problem to you. It is a difficult vice to quit, but as you'll see from the past pages here, we've had some wonderful successes. I just wish one of them had been your OH!! Your dad certainly isn't right that you can't stop as you can see from here - you can! All too often it's the fact that the smoker needs to wish to quit and if it isn't the right time for him then it's a hard thing to do. Though all too often the thought of quitting is far, far worse than actually doing it as so many of us have found.
Having said that, I'd sincerely hope anyone these days would indeed do so for the sake of their child. Does he smoke indoors? If so then do ask him to PLEASE smoke outside... for ALL your sakes! I wouldn't have anyone smoking near a baby/child and with all the press given to us all these days about passive smoking - NO ONE should be smoking where kiddies are! Please do your utmost to impress that on him..... anyone else in your family that visits too!!! I sincerely hope he never smokes in the bedroom, it sounds as though he may be doing so with part of what you say.
If he's on 5 a day then it's not too bad an amount as most smokers are usually between 10 & 20. I'd imagine that you've explained all your fears to him and to be honest, more than that you can't really do. So, if, when the baby arrives, he still insists on smoking - he does it away from the baby and the the only way that can be is for him to do so outside!
I hope for all your sakes that he'll very soon quit the habit, it's the best thing I've ever done and I hope it's possible for him to say that to you some day too! I wish you the very, very best with the baby and you're welcome to PM me if you wish. Don't worry yourself about it all too much now, it's you and your baby that you have to concentrate on, let's hope your OH is so besotted by the little one that he'll want to quit!!!
All the very best and do please let us know how things go. Good luck.

I completely agree, your OH should be banished outside to smoke. Before I gave up I used our garage as my own "smoke room"!'
One of the worst things about being a parent who smokes is that sometimes you miss out on an experience because you want a fag (bathtime, storytime etc)
I have had more time for the kids since stopping smoking and although it was hard at first it is very worth it.
I hope that your OH manages to stop but if not then insist he keeps his filthy habit away from the baby!
Congratulations on the imminent new arrival :j:j0
