evening feedie, nearly 5 months now hardly ever think about it, stick it out all the new quitters, has anyone else noticed since the ban came in, how the people standing outside smoking look sort of furtive like they are doing something naughty
smoke free since 16 feb 08

Thanks, i have an appointment at the docs on friday so gonna get them to assist me with this!! Eeeshk i wish i didn't smoke!! x
:j :T First off congrats on being pregnant :T :j

Hopefully you'll be able to make it as far as Friday without smoking, if you do I would refuse any offer of nicotine replacement therapy as all nicotine should have left your body and it'll just be physical cravings which are difficult but which are manageable!

I'll give a proper reply later when I've got more time on my hands!

Hi all and thanks for the queries about how I am doing, the answer is ........

    Great!!

Smoke free weekend but still dependant on patches. I now take them off when I have a shower at night so do not get the weird dreams anymore :)

To be honest the weekend was easy because we did not really socialise, in fact I had no alcohol at all and haven't since the previous weekend. So fingers crossed I am getting there are on that front

Hi everyone, only one day to go before I've hit the four weeks mark and on the 12th it will be a whole month. Although I have tried to be positive from the start that I would never go back to smoking, I have surprised myself as at one time I would never have thought I could have gone this long without smoking. Funnily enough I now wonder how I managed to smoke nearly twenty a day !!!
Still on the gum but only when things feel a bit rough. Have been having quite a bit of stress one way and another (typically things got bad just as I had completed week one) but the good news is that whenever I have been tempted I've talked myself out of it by telling myself that if I started to smoke again and undid all my effort so far I would just make a bad situation worse.

Jankelly, congrats on the pregnancy, luckily I hadn't started smoking until after I had my child so didn't have your dilemma. I have mentioned the Paul McKenna book and CD is a previous post. As I said in that, I wouldn't try to claim it stopped me from smoking completely, as I still needed the gum, but the CD is very relaxing and it lasts for about 25 mins. I used it the first two weeks if I got stressed in the evening at the time I would have smoked after a meal. By the time the CD had finished, I felt much more relaxed and had occupied myself during the craving. I got mine from Asda as they sell it at less than RRP. Maybe that could be an NRT free way for you to try.

This forum has helped me so much over the last few weeks so thanks to everyone.

Hey jenkellyxx, sorry it's taken me so long to get back online I've been flat out here!

First of all I hope you're still smoke free, every day/hour/minute counts!

As I said the other day if you can make it as far as Friday without smoking make sure your doctor gives you something without nicotine in it as your body will be nicotine free by that stage.

Before Friday you may want to have a look at what's available to you which doesn't have nicotine in it, for example Champix (I used that and would recommend it to anyone!) Zyban, hypnotherapy, cold turkey Alan Carr etc. and see which one tickles your fancy! There are many many posts on here where you'll be able to find out which method has worked and which haven't and reasons why, which will certainly help when making a decision about which method you'd like to use.

If you still haven't smoked that's fantastic but if you've slipped back in don't beat yourself up too much (just a wee bit lol) and redouble your efforts to give yourself a better quality of life and your little 'un the best possible start to life.

If you find yourself struggling pop along here and pour your heart out and somebody who is or has been in the same boat will be along shortly to assure you that you're not losing your mind, you're not an ogre and the world certainly is conspiring to annoy you when you're trying to stop smoking!

Best of luck with the pregnancy and the stopping smoking!

:T:TWell done Marjem! I know how proud you must feel, hopefully you're reminding everyone around you that you're doing brilliantly :T:T

(Don't be getting too complacent tho!)

Well done Lewki, you're doing so well, hopefully the weekend doesn't yield too many temptations!
