    Hi all,

I think is about time that I joined the rest of the brave people on this thread and give up smoking. My motivation is that my partner is due to give birth around christmas and i dont want my first child to have a smoker as a dad also wouldn't mind having the £25 a week to spend on something else.

Tomorrow is the day!!!! Wish me luck :j

Anyone got any tips on how to control the urge of having something in your hand ???

Thanks, will probably be on ere alot over the next week or so as that is the worst time for me (ex ex smoker) I ave done it once, i can do it again.

Im now on day 5 and feel great!!! I have also managed to lose weight because Im drinking water rather than coffee and not snacking as much!

lincsdan, keep a bottle of water with you, a drink takes away the craving and holding it keeps your hands busy :)

Couldn't have put it better myself pulliptears water is great for stopping the cravings, good for stopping putting weight on too!!! You sound as though you're doing wonderfully well, and controlling the weight gain that most of us have trouble with too! Keep up all that you're doing, 5 days is GREAT!!

Hi Dan, good to see you here and so determined. What a wonderful incentive to have to spur you along, and if you've quit once you know you can do it again - and STAY quit. All the very best of luck with quitting (I'll send you a pm in a mo with some tips on), your young one will be so very proud when he/she is old enough to know what you did for him/her! Feed off of the support your partner will give, that helps so much.

Many congratulations MFD!!!!! :T :T:T:T:T :T:TYou have done brilliantly and I hope all those seeing your post will be inspired by your achievements ....so far!!!;) All the best with all the other versaries you'll reach, you're well on your way and a 1/3 of a year accomplished!!!! Chuffed to bits for you - and your good health.:D

I've now been a non-smoker for 15 days. I've come off the patches and just rely on the inhaler when the going gets tough. Feel really proud of myself but because my husband has never smoked he doesn't understand my sense of achievement (which isn't his fault, he was just clever enough not to start in the first place!)

My CO reading at the doctors was 3 at my appointment which I was told was due to walking along the High Street ans inhaling car fumes to get to the building and perfectly normal reading for a non smoker.

I now know I am over the worst of the withdrawal symptoms it's just that nagging temptation at the back of your mind which I know fades in time but it's like a little devil on your shoulder.

Well done Lincsdan86 on quitting for the baby, I should think it's harder for you to quit as you aren't the one carrying the baby but it will make all the difference when baby is born. The guilt I used to feel leaving my baby in the cot and sneaking out for a cig was horrible! Are you from Lincoln by the way? Only asking cos I am.

    Good luck everyone

Congratulations simbalou!!! Just over 2 weeks is a real milestone and you're very right to be so proud of yourself as you've come so far! You're right about your husband, though most non smokers get a fair idea of just how hard it is for us with all the publicity and knowledge that's given to the public. So, no he doesn't know exactly, but I'll bet he's fairly wise about just how much of a struggle you're having.

If it's possible, take him to the Docs on one of your readings and let him listen to how pleased they are with you! It's true about the higher readings due to inhaling car fumes as MFD (above) had the same problem at least once. Don't let it worry you and try to go a different way next time. Of course there's always one alternative .......though folk may just look at you a bit weird if you wear an oxygen mask!!! :D;)

Ignore that "little devil" on your shoulder ! We've all had that problem too, try hard to focus your mind on something beautiful. Better still, think about all the money you've saved and just how far you are to really great health. You'll soon find he's jumped off your shoulder - because he just couldn't make you listen!!! You're doing excellently , hold your head up high and keep on praising yourself as you have SO much to be really proud of!!! :D

    Be strong.

well smoking is a distant memory now, I can honestly say I do not miss cigs at all and am really proud of myself, to all those in the early stages who can think of nothing except cigs, just stick at it and slowly it just gets easier.
5 months today, are you trying to catch up with me mfd:cool:
