    Good morning all,

I just wanted to let you know that i have decided to quit smoking to, I went to my smoking cessation clinic at my gp's surgery, and the lovely lady there has put me on a new tablet that has come out call CHAMPIX, and i must say its working wonders and i'm so happy. I suffer from depression and one of the side effects it states says it may cause depression in some people but i was willing to take the risk, and i'm happy to report that my depresson has not been made worse and that I have ben quite stable on these tablets, another side effect is that has disturbed my sleep  but I am willing to persevere with this because the benefits of not smoking are just to great to give up :j

Good Luck to you all :T

Morning all. Disaster in the office. My colleague who stopped on the sameday as me has cracked! Because of various meetings, I have not seen him for nearly a week. I am really disappointed for him and I am now on hise case to get him back on board! The great news is that I did not want to go and have a smoke with him AND when he came back in, I could not believe how he smells! Anyway....

Sue - do you never sleep ?:) Your motivation on this board is brilliantly and thank you.

Viv - great post - really makes you think
Betty - welcome on board, good luck with the champix - I can't comment on its effect and do not know anyone who has used it, so please keep us posted to how it is going.

Feed - rather than burning the fiver - you could always post it to me?? :)

Wanna - hope you are having a good day!! I am feeling really bullish about not smoking this morning. My colleague has let us down :(

Sorry I haven't got a thanks button....does anyone else have this prob at the moment, but I will keep you up dated on my progress with the non smoking and how the tables work for me.

Just to say you have to take them for 3 months, and so far i have had minimal cravings, I wouldn't even call them cravings more of habit when i've stopped doing something, for example usually when i've finished hoovering I nip outside for a ciggie, now i just plough on with something else. Even after eating i don't fancy one anymore:confused: which was always a biggie for me, having a smoke after a meal. my husband is currently giving up using the same tablets, and he has been a smoker for 40 yrs  and he is finding it quite easy with these tablets.

Keep up the good fight everyone :T

oops found the thx button now...lol...
  • Thanks everyone, I am feeling more positive with it today, think I was just feeling very tired after my race for life on Sunday, but I have realised that i would never have been able to run 5k 3 weeks ago in one go no matter how much training I had had done. So I am happy today feeling more positive.

The messages and the postings all help its great to know that there is so much support from people who have been in the same position and from people that are in in the same position so a big

    THANK YOU to everyone

    Hi everyone

Shopaholicnot was your appointment with the hypnotherapist tuesday yesterday are next week - hope it works- please keep us posted.

Lewki - congratulations on not cracking because your friend has. One of my friends seems to have suddenly started smoking more around me - but maybe I'm still sensitive and notice people smoking more. Also just wanted to say your post about "patch placement" really cheered me up just when I needed it - was having a bad day, not because of cravings but almost smoked to prove a point ie that I haven't stopped smoking because I am expecting ...contrary to office gossip. Wanted to snatch a ciggie of the nearest person when I heard and show everyone who been talking behind my back but i didn't :mad::mad::mad: then I came on the forum as a distraction and read your post which really cheered me up, so thanks. Problem is I am now really paranoid about putting weight on - I know certain people are sneaking a peek of my belly as it is.

Sorry for that rant there but the point I really want to make is that this forum is so good at raising your spirits if and when you feel down - so thanks to everyone.

Viv, that was such a powerful posting and someone really put their heart into that with every little feeling about it all. Thanks so much for posting it.

feedum I hope you're much better after that cold, or that you soon will be.

Good to see you here Bettyboop, no ideas about Champix either, though one or two have been on here saying they're using it. Don't worry too much about the side-affects as everyone is an individual you included! I wish you and your hubby GREAT success in quitting this 'orrible habit. The very best of luck!

Oh I sleep alright Lewki, I'm just a bit of a night owl as you've probably noted! Thanks for you kind words. After quitting myself for a good long while now I just want to help others achieve that same wonderful feeling and get their health back as well as saving their hard-earned money and if it happens for just a couple then I'll be so very happy. If it happens for all on here it would be fantastic and I'll be overjoyed! :D I do hope you're able to get your colleague to get back to quitting again, such a sad shame he cracked, but I reckon if anyone can help him it'll be you! Good luck.

I reckon you're right about being tired after doing the race for life on Sunday wanna, but at least you've been able to put it all into a very sensible perspective and your thoughts are very true. Keep focused on your achievement with the run AND with the quitting as well, and how much faster, and further (!), you'll be able to run next time! Keep up that strength, you know you can!

marjem I'm sure it was the Tuesday just gone, at least that's what she wrote to tell me so I do hope all's gone well and that it was successful. Hopefully she'll let us know. I've got to admit that Lewki's post about the patch still makes me giggle at times and I'm really pleased you saw it at a time that something light-hearted was needed. Please marjem, don't give your so called 'friends' the satisfaction of seeing you quit as they will then have won! The only one we want to see in a win situation is YOU! Ignore them and let them get on with their small-mindedness. This is the place to rant so you do so whenever you need to. If those 'friends' or anyone else feel the need to sneak a peek of your belly then let them get on with it, they may just be envious! Keep focusing on your health! Lewki's patch places too  if it helps, I'm sure he won't mind!!! :D

Keep that resolve folks and keep strong and ..........look to your health!

Sue PS. Off to bed now Lewki! ;)

Marjem, Sue’s right (she’s rarely wrong if truth be told!) who cares what the people in your office are thinking, you know how hard you’ve worked to try and stop smoking so don’t give them the satisfaction of putting you back on the fags.

I know how hard it can be for a woman to put the idea of gaining weight to the back of your mind, but at the minute your main concern should only be stopping smoking, even a superwoman like yourself can’t do both at the same time.

What I would advise though is making sure that when you get a craving and want to snack, use the forum favourite of carrot sticks (mars bars were my unforunate choice  ) or drink a long glass of water, that way you’ll not put on to much weight.

A little weight gain is almost inevitable though, you can now appreciate the taste of all the food you eat and will relish it, just don’t go overboard.

As for your work‘mates’ I’d suggest reminding them that they would all love to stop smoking and to stop with the petty jealousy because you’re doing what they can’t do, remind them, gently of course, that you don’t need to be guilted into stopping smoking as you’re stronger than them. And just to twist the knife a wee bit offer to help them in any way you can if ever they feel strong enough to stop smoking ;)

Keep it up, I know you’ll be fine (((hugs)))

    Hi Everyone

Thanks for the support. I won't let vanity be my downfall - I was just annoyed at the way their ears pricked up at the thought of gossip

Hope everyone is doing ok today

By 10.30 tonight, I will have hit the two week mark but must admit today has been hard, don't know why but I had the strongest desire to try a puff to prove to myself that I don't like it anymore!!! (i know, barmy logic). I haven't and I won't.

Does anyone else feel like they have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other whispering conflicting thoughts (like in cartoons) or am I going mad !!!

    Keep on quitting
