Hi
I stopped smoking on 13th June 2008 and I am using gum for the worst of the cravings, but I have tried different brands in the past and some are yuk so perhaps you could buy a small pack and try if another brand suits you.
I haven't seen a hypnotherapist but that was because I was worried about the cost and whether it could work.
I have tried the Paul McKenna book - it was quite cheap at my local asda and I thought what the hell is about the same price as a packet of cigs ... I don't claim it to be a magic cure (if it was I wouldn't need the gum) BUT it the CD is very relaxing and had helped when I feel stressed early evening (I still miss the after meal ciggie) so for the price it may be worth a try before seeing a hypnotherapist one on one.
I think different things work for different people but again as Sue UU said to me, juice does help also.
This weekend I have definitely had the "should I shouldn't I" conversation in my head but I know that just 1 will lead me to 100 - to everyone stopping tell yourself you've made the decision and you're not going back - that mindframe has been the biggest help to me.
Good luck
Well done on giving up and keep it up!
The nicotine replacement therapy does not seem to work for me..when i did quit for a year I did get very very dependant on the gum..but we are all different
i really dont think it works for me...I like nicotine too much!
I could try cold turkey but i know as soon as i get stressed or anxious
i will be straight down the shop. i think i need something like hypnotherapy to break that chain. i spend about £150 a month on cigs, and I have been smoking 25 years
so I am willing to take the gamble and try anything!
I'm feeling very positive about it and I am sure it will work..somethings got to!!!!!!
I am going on Tuesday and I cant wait! i am really excited about it lol
Good luck!0 -

I expect if we looked back 3 weeks ago and read our thread, we would agree that life has got easier
Everyone else, please keep going and posting. I would never have got thios far without your virtual suppport!! Thank you0 -
LEWKI's so right wanna, you've saved a heck of a lot.....your work pals haven't!!! You're getting healthier with each new day....sadly your work pals aren't! Just wait until that month is up, you'll feel SO much different then and the achievement feels as though you've conquered a mountain and in a way you have! Get into bed each night with a great feeling of pride at having got through the day so successfully and get up each morning with a renewed freshness.... for another fresh, clean day ahead without all the muck and rubbish inside you. At your most vulnerable times drink a large glass full of water, go for a walk/run or pelt up the stairs a few times! Keep the orange juice up too and don't forget munching on the carrots and fruit, it all helps so much.
You CAN do it wanna and I've a very big feeling that you WILL! Keep that resolve! All the very best.

This was written by Joel Spitzer. I printed this and carry it with me when I get an urge to smoke. I hope this will help someone else who wants to quit or has quit and finds it very hard to do.
How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with yo? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odor that sticks to you wherever you go.Others think both of you stink.
He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick him up. You would give your spouse hell if he or she did that to you all the time, but you can't argue with your friend. Sometimes, when you are out at a movie or play he says he wants you to go stand in the lobby with him and miss important scenes. Since he calls all the shots in your life, you go, Your friend doesn't like your choice of clothing either. Instead of politely telling you that you have lousy taste, he burns little holes in these items so you will want to throw them out. sometimes, he tires of the furniture and gets rid of it too. occasionally, he gets really nasty and decides the whole house must go.
he gets pretty expensive to support. not only is his knack of property destruction costly, but you must pay to keep him with you. in fact, he will cost you thousands of dollars over your
lifetime. And you can count on one thing, he will never pay you a penny in return.
Often at picnics you watch others playing vigorous activities and having lots of fun doing them. But your friend won't let you. He doesn't believe in Physical activity. In his opinion, you are too old to have that kind of fun, So he kind of sits on your chest and makes it difficult for you to breath. Now you don't want to off and play with other people when you can't breathe, do you?
Your friend does not believe in being healthy. He is really repulsed by the thought of you living a long and productive life. So every chance he gets he makes you sick. He helps you catch colds and flu, Not just by running out in the middle of the lousy weather to pick him up at the store. He is more than creative than that. He carries thousands of poisons with him which he constantly blows in your face. When you inhale some of them, they wipe out cilia in your lungs which would have helped you prevent these diseases.
But colds and flu are just his form of child's play. He especially like diseases that slowly cripple you - like emphysema. He considers this disease great. Once he gets you to have this, you will give up all your friends, family, career goals, activities-EVERYTHING. You will sit home and caress him, telling him what a great friend he is while you desperately gasp for air.
But eventually your friend tires of you. He decides he no longer wishes to have your company. Instead of letting you go your separate ways, he decides to kill you. he has a wonderful arsenal of weapons behind him. In fact, he has been plotting your death since the day you met him. He picked all the top killers in society and did everything in his power to ensure you would get one of them. He overworked your heart and lungs. He clogged up the arteries to your heart, brain, and every other part of your body. In case you were to strong to succumb to this, he constantly exposed you to cancer causing agents. He knew he would get you sooner or later.
Well, this is a story of your "FRIEND" your cigarette. No real friend would do all this to you, Cigarettes are the worst possible enemies you ever had. They are expensive, addictive, socially unacceptable, and DEADLY. Consider all this and never take another puff.
