I posted here on the first of April as I was trying to quit. Got the patches from my doctor and everything.
It didn't work as well as I hoped and felt like a right failure.
A couple of weeks later I was reading a different thread on the health & beauty forum
where someone was pregnant and trying to give up smoking. She was advised to try and read Allen Carr - easy way to stop smoking
I thought I'd give the book a go since I had nothing to lose. Half way through reading the book I realized I hadn't had a fag for two days. I never finished reading the book, although it was really interesting....somehow it just worked. I have now been smoke free for 2 weeks and had no cravings what so ever :j

(I just checked and noticed the author has been mentioned a couple of times here before. but for those of you who missed it, perhaps it could be worth a try)

Just popped in to say, 12 weeks tomorrow I'll have stopped for :) doesn't bother me at all really, sometimes I get the 'would be nice' feeling but no major cravings. Proud of myself :)
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

    I want to stop smoking.
I smoke about 20 a day and suffer Bronchitis etc,
I gave up 5 years ago for a year but got addicted to the nicotine gum so eventually got fed up and started smoking again! the patches dont work for me, they give me nightmares and I have an allergy to the glue on them.
I have just read the Allen carr womens book and it did not work for me.
I am now half way through the Original Allen carr book, and although I know everything he says is true, I feel that if i do give up because of the book (unlikely) it will not last.
so i have made the step of booking an appointment with a Hypnotherapist, which i think really is going to be the only way for me to stop for good.
Has anyone had any experience of Hypnotherapy?
he is expensive and i want to know that he is good, There are so many to choose from!
what should i be looking for in a hynotherapist? there are so many that offer stop smoking sessions....my mind is boggling!

Hi there - well done to everyone who has given up! Just wondering if anyone has tried the Allen Carr clinics? I have a couple of friends who have given up this way & it's worked. It is quite expensive at £220 but it's a full moneyback guarantee.

After smoking for nearly 10 years, I hardly ever enjoy a cigarette anymore but am scared of giving up as it will feel weird without them? I read half of the Allen Carr book but didn't finish it and I believe it was starting to work however my concentration with books like that is low and I am quite impatient - I would rather go to the clinic and come out a non-smoker after 5 hours. Anyone who has read the book will know it completely puts you off using any of the NRT's as this is seen as prolonging quitting altogether. Don't get me wrong - I know the patches/gum etc works for millions of people but I know it won't work for me (I tried patches and they sent me loopy and the gum made me sick!).

I have £140 worth of Clubcard deals vouchers to use towards the cost of the clinic which means it will cost me £80 in total - but if I do give up I will be saving around £120 a month (much needed). The next session near me is on 5th July and I'm thinking of booking on it this week - arrghhh but then I don't know - I'm scared of how I'll cope with stress without the fags! :o

Hi Hawthorn, good to see you back, though sad to see you succumbed, never mind, put it behind you and move on, but do bear in mind that so often stress can be caused by smoking! So by having that first one again it puts more stress than was there before, so try other ways of dealing with the stress and you'll be well away! Good luck with tomorrow and save your cash......and your health!;)

Sorry to hear about the awful cold feedumall, such horrible things at this time of year, though that cooked brekkie sounded just the ticket re feed the cold and starve the fever...good for you, OH too! A real shame about your young neighbours. It's always such a darned shame to hear of youngsters starting on that horrible smoking path, oh boy will they regret it later!:o Get well soon.

Hi greenpixey, I thought I recognised your name. Good for you with the 2 weeks under your belt and no cravings, a good recommendation for the AC book! Keep it up and well done!:T

Congratulations Drea! :T12 weeks is a long time so you really deserve to be proud of yourself! Thanks so much for passing on to all those wanting to quit or in the progress, it's bound to boost them! All the best with a smoke free life!!!:D

shoperholicnot, as I already told you in my pm, I know nothing about Hypnotherapy, though have heard it all depends on the individual. Maybe someone else here knows more, though I don't think anyone's mentioned it here for a good while. If you think it would work for you and you can afford it then.....go for it. You need to quit for the sake of Bronchitis though so whatever works - give it a go. Good luck if you do - or if you don't!;)

Pixie983 I've no idea about the clinics, but as with the hypnotherapy, someone else may have knowledge of it and be able to help, I hope so. IF it doesn't work you have nothing to lose! Re the being scared, that'll all work out as I've explained in the pm, but if you're not enjoying the cigs then take the bull by the horns and strike now by whichever way that you feel might work! All the very best with deciding as good health comes first and is paramount!:D

Well done BLUESUNSHINE,!:T What a great gift you've given yourself, if you happen to get any sticky patches (not the ones on your arm :D) then come on here and get it out of your system, that's what Jo started the thread for.

Good luck in your smoke free life.

  • Just popping in quickly to say

    3 WEEKS TODAY, 3 WEEKS TODAY :j:j:j:j
  • Hi all
Congratulations to all the current nonsmokers and strength to all those (like me) aiming to quit!!
Can I join??? Still smoking  but currently reading Allen Carr and have a quit date of Monday 25th June - now my exams are out of the way:j !!! Now must be honest and I'm feeling scared, have quit before the longest time being 12 months (15 years ago)! DH had major heart attack almost 7 years ago (aged only 39:eek: ) and even that didn't convince us to stop!!! (shame on us!!) We're spending over £50   a week on the evil weed and as you can see from my sig I can't afford it!!! I want to stop, I need to stop and with willpower, Allen Carrs wisdom and your support I WILL stop. Look forward to a long, healthy, smokefree association with you all.
