The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

By 10.30 tonight, I will have hit the two week mark but must admit today has been hard, don't know why but I had the strongest desire to try a puff to prove to myself that I don't like it anymore!!! (i know, barmy logic). I haven't and I won't.
That's an old trick, for some reason your own brain tries to fool you into thinking that just one smoke to prove that you're off them is a great idea, of course us clever people here know that our brains know nothing  so we try our best to ignore that craving.
Well done on the two weeks:j, don't let vanity be your downfall, I'm sure you look just fab:p-but even better, you don't smell like a smoker0 -
Hi Doltage, thanks for the compliment, though rarely wrong? I can't lay claim to that one, wish I could!:D You are doing marvellously with your quitting, 3 months in a very few days!!! THAT is something to be so very proud of, well done! I've a feeling marjem will be one of those that reaches that - and beyond too!
As doltage says marjem, the feelings and thoughts that you're experiencing in ones that have happened to all of us - but that we managed to get through! You too will be the same as those sort of feelings will very soon pass. 2 weeks is a long time for an ex smoker,so whatever you do don't act on those feelings as that devil can't be let to win! Get those glasses of water down and drown the little devil, which is virtually what you'll be doing and if you look at it like that - he'll soon go!Water is a great craving clearer so keep drinking, but try the Orange juice too as that is another.
You'll get there! Best wishes, you too doltage.
Sue

Naomi234, it normally takes people a few attempts to stop smoking, you did well to last as long as you did, when you’re ready to stop smoking think of how long you lasted without them and take heart from that, you can do it and when you’re ready you will do it. Of course the sooner you do stop the better for yourself.
Thanks for your kind words Sue, I’m over the moon that it’s almost 3 months, I was one of those who had tried and failed many times and, as many have said before, if I can do it anyone can-dunno if it would’ve been possible without the wonderful support I got here though.
Bettyboop61, I just saw your post earlier there, I took Champix after gum, patches etc. hadn’t worked for me. The nurse who prescribed them told me without willpower they’d be useless and I can honestly say it wasn’t the difficult mission I had myself convinced it would’ve been.
Yes, it got difficult at times, there were mood swings, a bit of depression, lack of sleep, etc. My opinion was that the drug didn’t cause those side effects, all nicotine replacement therapies will list those as side effects which is no coincidence, people going cold turkey experience that as well, it’s an effect of stopping smoking and is well worth it.
Coming through the other side as a non-smoker is the best thing I have ever done in my life, I look on it as my greatest achievement-that’s how much it means to me and why I’m certain I’m a non-smoker.
Have a great day folks, just don’t smoke!0 -

Bettyboop
:j Well done Bettyboop61, as you know every day is an achievement so very well done. :j At the start every minute is a struggle but when you get to this point you're positively ecstatic and would you agree that it does get easier?
Hope you got a load of stickers, I've a feeling you'll be going for many, many days/weeks/years without smoking!0 -
Hi everyone
Shopaholicnot was your appointment with the hypnotherapist tuesday yesterday are next week - hope it works- please keep us posted.
Lewki - congratulations on not cracking because your friend has. One of my friends seems to have suddenly started smoking more around me - but maybe I'm still sensitive and notice people smoking more. Also just wanted to say your post about "patch placement" really cheered me up just when I needed it - was having a bad day, not because of cravings but almost smoked to prove a point ie that I haven't stopped smoking because I am expecting ...contrary to office gossip. Wanted to snatch a ciggie of the nearest person when I heard and show everyone who been talking behind my back but i didn't :mad::mad::mad: then I came on the forum as a distraction and read your post which really cheered me up, so thanks. Problem is I am now really paranoid about putting weight on - I know certain people are sneaking a peek of my belly as it is.
Sorry for that rant there but the point I really want to make is that this forum is so good at raising your spirits if and when you feel down - so thanks to everyone.
my appointment i next tuesday....I cant wait!
I will let you know how I get on -good or bad!
Dont pay attention to the people at work, they dont matter at all. just ignore it and dont let them drive you to smoking. do not give them the satisfaction!0 -
