Re that list Doltage,
why on earth do you think I'm back
Could do with a bit of help actually - How does everyone apart from me manage to get the exact piece of text they want to quote neatly wrapped up in a box ?
I can still only manage the 'obvious newbie' format which frankly is getting a tad embarassing so would really appreciate a step by step guide.
Well done to all non smokers,

A year ago today, I put my first post up in this forum. I decided that I'd had enough of smoking. The government had banned it in public places - I couldn't even smoke in the local pub! My work made it hell by taking apart our smoking shelters and yet I still thought I'd never be able to give up.
I started smoking at 13 and it took me 22 years to quit.
I've tried and failed before, I've never smoked in front of my kids or my parents even! My mum thought I quit when I was 18 (although of course I'm sure she knew I hadn't).
I hope this doesn't come across as a brag, I just more hope that it gives you all the courage and inspiration you need to quit smoking.

A year on, I don't miss smoking. Well, I do, but not how everyone expects. I miss the human right to be ABLE to smoke. I may not be addicted to the weed any more and I rarely get cravings, but I still feel that people should have the right to kill themselves with cigarettes and make their own choice. If I had bigger balls, I'd join FOREST. I really do mean that! I'd rather we all killed ourselves with harmless cigarettes than go round kicking the doodah out of each other because we're drunk or stoned!!!
They may talk about passive smoking in pubs, but how many people die due to violence brought on by alcohol (in and out of the home)?

If anyone ever wants any help or advice or just wants to talk about it, please PM me through my profile. I'll try and post on the thread and I wish I had more time to give more support on this thread as certain others have. You know who you are and you deserve all the praise you get!
I wish well to everyone. You really CAN do it!

O.M.G  did anyone else just see Duncan Bannantyne 'outing' British American Tobacco in Africa ?
Well, guess who lived in West Africa from the age of 10 to 18 ?
Guess who had her first cigarette aged 12 ?
A cigarette that was bought singley from a street vendor. I dont blame the vendor & it was over 25 years ago, there probably were'nt health warnings on packs then & I probably wouldnt have cared.
The point is that the laws on selling cigarettes are now so strict in this country that B.A.T & other companies are peddling death to those who are already underprivileged in parts of the world where the literacy rate is far below ours so many people cannot even read the health warnings.
There's no NHS there, to help people get off the fags, or to care for them when they fall prey to the smoking related illnesses.
I remember when I was a teenage smoker a brand of cigarettes called 'kim' that were specifically targeted at girls / women. I was at an all girls boarding school at the time & you can imagine how much business the local shopkeeper did thanks to that cunning piece of marketing  They were withdrawn within a couple of years but I suspect that many females got hooked just because of that product.
Again, this was 20 + years ago & such predatory marketing wouldn't happen in this country now... but companies such as B.A.T are still using underhand tactics to snare the vulnerable just so that their greedy shareholders can become richer  .
I feel absolutely sickened by this & !!!!!! my own health, I'm quitting as a matter of principle now. I'm going to have to voice my opinion to B.A.T now,
I'll find out their address & post it on here, & I urge anyone who reads this & feels the same outrage that I do, to do the same.
Lula x
ps - sorry for the rant, I hate to see vulnerable people exploited :mad:0
