Morning everyone - so many new names (and some old names lurking around I see :D )

    Today is my THREE-MONTHIVERSARY :T

For anyone starting out, believe me it does get easier and you will feel better for it. The temptation will always be there for me but I have not slipped once (I know if I did then I would be on the slippery slope)

I have never felt so free :D
    :T :TCongratulations MFD, you're super!:T :T
I was certain last night that the only thing that would've helped me out was a fag, of course I didn't bother but it's weird that my own brain tries to trick me like that!

My brother has been off them for 11 years and he still gets the odd fleeting craving so it's something that will stay with us and we have to be wary of it!

Well done again MFD, 2 weeks until I hit the 3 monthiversary!

Welcome Back Sue UU. Nice to see your comments.

Hey all, In 4 Hrs it'll be THREE days.

Doesn't sound much reading of al of your successes. Long way to go yet.

Certainly 'Going Through it' but I still haven't given in, but came close.
Thank god for biscuits. (only one or two and I'm tall & slim, so it's OK for a temp relief :))

    Well done all you abstainers.

People like me, and others that will follow, need you guys to look up to and emulate. Keep it up.

I still get the 'OMG I need a fag' moments, especially when I am having a tough day and to be fair there are always new challenges to overcome but, as you know by now, it is worth it.

Still, not being complacent - there are LOADS of stories about people who did 3 months, reckoned they'd cracked it then all of a sudden they are back to 20 a day!

Last Thursday I was out at a charity golf day (I go every year) and I really missed the chats we used to have when we were outside smoking...I nearly went outside just for the chat but I knew that a few drinks later it would spell danger for me!

I have faith in you doltage - keep it up everybody :T :D

Don't have time to read through all of this thread at the moment (will start wading through it later) but does anyone have any links to a website that could give my husband some tips on how to support me in giving up smoking?

I know that I am vile when I try to quit but mostly I know it will happen and try to stay quiet and calm - it just seems that my husband starts having a go at me about everything on quit day and then I never make it to the end of quit day without smoking.

Also if I have a 'blip' and smoke I get 'you'll never do it' 'i'll be the one explaining to your daughter that your dead because you smoked' etc etc which doesn't really help.

The worst thing is that when I am smoking he smokes too!! Only occasionally but if it is so easy why can't he go without one?

Feeling rather down at the moment as I want to do it but I don't feel like I get any positive support at home. I was supposed to quit today and ended up having a huge argument and going off to buy cigarettes.

Hi BG. I know what you mean. My OH has not really mentioned it to me this time - she has seen it all before I guess. It is actually easier for me if she does not bring it up at all. Try the tactic of not telling him and just getting on with it, it is working for me this time around. I actually hate praise from people I know....it makes it almost harder

I have always found an excuse for buying the ciggies, it could be arguements, work, socialising etc. Actually, it boils down to the fact that I have failed and I know they were right. This time, I am just going about it quietly and getting on here for a rant when necessary :)

Good luck with it, please come and join us and see that we are all going through the same

With THAT lack of support no amount of websites is going to change this pig.

BG. Go it alone. Give up IN SPITE of the ignorant sod that you live with. DON'T let his attitude cause you to feel bad about yourself. FEEL GOOD about yourself. Don't let him get to you. Simply, rise above him.

You certainly don't need this mans' "help".

That way you will be SUPERIOR to him.

Also he won't have you to blame for his occasional fag, either. (That'll screw him up :))

    Good luck.

    Hi Everyone

I have been reading the thread for a few days and finally feel brave enough to make my first post.

I've smoked for about 13 years but had my last ciggie on Thursday night. I have tried to quit before but if I'm honest, my heart was never in it and I cheated within days or even hours.

This time my heart is in it and that is why I hope (know) I should actually do it this time.

This time I WANT to stop as opposed to feel I have to stop. In the past my attempts were only to please my partner so when he displeased me - I rebelled by smoking !!! I tried patches but just ended up recharging them!!!

This time I am doing it for me so if I cheat I'm just hurting me.

Anyway it is hard (actually very very very hard) but I'm trying to keep positive and wanted to intorduce myself as you are all such inspiration I'm sure I'll be logging in often.

    Marjem x

P.s I'm using gum this time and I am frantically chewing away as I type.

    Hi Marjem

Welcome on board. Keep chewing fantically :) 2 weeks ago I was rubbing my patch, trying to get as much out of it as possible :)

Keep posting up here everytime you want to smoke. 5 mins typing takes the urge away! It really has helped me

On a seperate note, what is everyones motivation? Mine is mainly financial rather than health (thats a massive added benefit though). I figured another £150/month was such a massive saving and would make so much difference to our household. It also stops me getting the £12 postings on my cc bill where I would go to the garage buy 2 packs, plus a can plus chewing gum etc.

I would be really interested in knowing what everyones main motivation is!

    Keep going everyone

    Hi Lewki

Thanks for the support - I know what you mean about your patches, I've given myself a sore throat from draining all the nicotine out of my gum!!! But its better than the alternative.

My motivation is health and money and to see if I can do it

    Good luck to everyone else
