Oh Hawthorn, sounds like you had a bad night. Don't worry, I have been there too. It is pure enjoyment to sit outside with a fag to relax, I wonder if i will ever be able to socialise again. I have hit the two week mark and the reality of it all is just kicking in. It makes me anxious to know i will never smoke again. All i can say is keep going and take a day at a time. The cough is because your body is clearing itself from all the disgusting chemicals you have put in over the years. Give it another few days and you will start to feel better. You can do this. I got up this morning and my bloody patch was stuck in my hair - what a waste!Last cigarette smoked 29.05.08LBM: April 08Lloyds TSB: 3,500.00 (approx) :wall:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 977 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :cool:0

Great news Cantwin - this is a great place to visit everytime you want to smoke (hence I am here already lol)
Hope everyone had a good night last night. I played golf for the first time as a non smoker, had the urge several times but got through it all.
Weekend away - I hope I get through it, this is my last milestone after I cracked last Saturday0 -
Sunny and Hawthorn - just been back a page and read the threads!
Sunny, my oh has never smoked and she is not being supportive either - I dont blame her - seen it all before etc. I know what you mean about the fear of not being able to socialise - I am not a drinker but I do enjoy a glass of wine/bottle of beer at the weekend .....but only with a ciggie.
Strange, it used to be the same with coffee, now I will happily drink coffee and not smoke - i guess it will take longer with the beer thingy.
Haw - sounds like you were suffering last night, hope you are OK this morning?0 -
I'm better this morning. Calm again. For now. LOL.
I feel like I have a full blown cold though. Meh.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Hawth, sounds like you had a horrid night glad you are feeling a bit better now.
That socialising thing is going to be horrible have avoided going for a drink, or even having a glass of wine in the evening as I know I will want to smoke.....
Sunny my OH just doesn't understand how difficult it is to stop, never having smoked so I get little support or encouragement just the look when you mention that its been x amount of time a bit of suport would be good but I guess thats why we are here to support each other:beer:0 -

He knows i am trying my best to give up but he told me he has bought 1000 cigs duty free. We only have one room designated for smoking in our house which is not the living room or kitchen but a little side room off the kitchen which helps a little, but i know i will be able to smell the delicious aroma of benson & hedges wafting up my nose every so often. And, to know there are 1000  cigs in the house is going to be so hard for me to resist. My partner sees me as a bit of a joke when i say im giving up because i have said it so many times before and never actually get past the first couple of hours
. I really want to do this and prove i can do it, but the temptation is going to be awful.
OK Sunnyteacake, it's time for you to play hardball, if he wants to smoke banish him from the house, show him how determined you are and say since he was last there the house became a totally smoke free environment! That way you'll not have the smell of the filthy things coming in when you're making a lovely meal which you are now able to taste and smell thanks to not smoking!
Tell him he can keep his 1000 cancer sticks locked in the shed as well because stopping smoking is difficult at the best of times and he should be offering you support and not temptation. (what sort of mood is this to be in on a Friday lol)More the pleasure of sitting down with a fag in the fresh air and watching the world go by.
Hawthorn, do you really need me to point out the contradiction there0 -
Right everyone - I am off camping and I WILL NOT SMOKE THIS WEEKEND!!!!
Good luck to you all, I will be back on monday to check progress
have a great weekend
Good luck Sunny. Keep going Red and Wanna and everyone else - we are beating this together!:T0 -

Dear all,
I stumbled across this site a few days ago and been having a good read through. I have been really impressed with the sense of community and some of the advice given on here. Before anyone says im posting in the wrong section, im a smoker, 27 years old (28 on Tuesday) wanting to quit.
I started smoking when I was 21. Unfortunately I got with the wrong crowd and used to smoke weed, probably most days. I didnt smoke cigarettes at the time. I did this for a couple of years and then realised just how much of an effect this had on my personality and I regularly could be bothered to do much. I decided to stop, which surprisingly I found easy. However, the damage was done and I soon found myself craving the nicotine I have inadvertently become addicted to. I used to buy packs of 10's which soon enough turned into packs of 20's.
I have never been, IMO, a heavy smoker. I smoke probably 10 a day. My main reason for quitting is the amount of money that I am wasting each month. The problem I have is that I like it.
I have tried to give up in the past, I read the Little Book of Quitting by Alan Carr, I lasted about 2 weeks then stupidly I gave in. My partner is an ex-smoker. Some of my colleagues are smokers and we all tend to go for a break together so there is the social side, we tend not to speak much in the office, only when we are outside.
I have the incentive to give up, im trying to save for a new car. Im just looking for some help/advice as im finding it very difficult and I always seem to find an excuse not to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
