I don't smoke, but I wold like to wish you all the best of luck. I just wish my friend sharon could see this thread, but she gve her computer away and doesn't come to see me, I have to go to her! She is in bad debt, but spends about £35 a week of ciggies. When OH and I tell her she can't afford to smoke, never mind the health implications, she just says, oh its the stress!!!
But surely if she managed to quit smoking, she wolud have more money so the stress should be less????0 -

thanks GrannieAnnie :hello:
It sounds like your friend would be a good candidate to read the Allan Carr book. I finally started to read it last nigt. Try to get her to look into buying it second hand from Green Metropolis or Amazon ( or treat her if you have a spare few pounds ) the book actually does not tell you to stop smoking while reading it so she would have nothing to lose by reading it.
Im on day 6 :T got a busy day planned and am so close to my first week.
Well done on managing a week Jo :cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Hi Grannieannie :hello: I also think that Sharon would be a good candidate for Allen Carrs book, as Oops said you're actually told to continue smoking whilst reading it, it prepares you to give up and you have your last one when you finish the book. I know you mean well by suggesting she gives up but unfortunately when people are not ready to do it it very rarely works, there is many a time I've given up because I've promised people that I was gonna do it then woken up on the day and it's just not felt right at all. That may sound like an excuse but smokers will understand what I mean. Occassionaly I have got it right and managed to give up for a period of time, the longest being 2 years but I become complacent and think that just one won't hurt, just gonna try it and see if I still like it. Well no I don't I hate it but in true addicts style I perserveer (sp?) until I like it and then back on 20 a day lol!! If you have a printer maybe you should print this thread out for her and she could write a post for you to add?? If she does decide to quit then wish her luck from me
Nearly a week for you Oops, you are doing great! I think I might order myself another copy of Allen Carrs book cos I do like the way he put things into perspective.
Just gotta get through the rest of the day and it'll be a week for me wooohooo :j  :T never thought I'd get this far but thanks to all of your supportive I've managed it. Lets hope it continues!!
Have a lovely day everyone, got a day of housework, as the childminders been in hospital this week (she's got emphasemia sp? btw) and the kids have been at home the place looks like a bombs gone off!! Methinks it'll be a little more than a half hour job
Ali, how'd your pamper night go?

its a week for me tonightgot loads to do today to keep me busy but woke up this morning in agony. I must have slept in a funny position because my neck is killing me
I couldnt even sit up as it hurt too much to support my head till I had some pain killers. Have managed to do some housework - very slowly though and have loads left to do. I am going to try for a no chocolate day too ( ate 4 magnums yesterday  ) I dont think there is anything 'sweet' left in the house and I only did the shopping yesterday

Hi all,
Came across this website today for the 1st time, all very new to me so I'll be looking in and out of different threads, however this one is close to my heart as just given up the smokes last week. Both myself and partner doing it together, stopping smoking that is!!
Anyway, not sure if this is will apply in every area of the UK, but here in Coventry & Birmingham you can sign up with NHS to quit. They will supply you with 8 weeks of patches for a one off fee of just unedr £7 (save approx £120pp ) You go to meetings once a week, just pop in and pick up your weekly supply of patches.
We are into our 2nd week and all going well at the moment. Need to keep busy, but the patches do stop the withdrawal symptons that I've suffered from in past when going cold turkey ( headaches, lack of concentration, ANGER!!! etc etc )
You do need the will power, but you can concentrate more on the will power if the withdrawal symptoms are taken care of!
Good luck everyone and I'll keep you all posted on how we're doing.0 -

Hi there and well done for quitting smoking :T on my area you have to get a prescription every 2 weeks  but I have just lost my job so something good has come out of it because I get free prescriptions for the moment ( just wish I could get free chocolate on the NHS too  )
Have a good look around the site - we are a friendly bunch and you can save thousands with some of the advice on here.
All the best - OOPS:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0
