Afternoon everyone and well done too :T
Pamper night scrapped as DS didn't leave until late and I was sooo tired from such a hectic week I was in bed by 9.30pm!
Keeping busy (or sleeping) is working for me, but I'm really struggling when I sit down for 5 mins. I'm going to chase up the cessation group contact that used to run them at lunchtimes near the office.
Picked up 500g pack of raw cashews (half price too) to mix with my bag of raisins as snack at work to ward off evil weed cravings. Telling the "dragon" to s*d off isn't enough :rotfl:
I'm sooo fidgety. Can't believe I'm sitting here wishing to be back at work, so I have things that I have to do!Back on the DFW Wagon:

CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019

Hello, it sounds as if you are all doing well. I nearly fell off the waggon last week (or whatever the smoking equivalent is) but I fought the urge and won!! Can't wait till pubs go no smoking as my friend still smokes and every time we go out I end up with a cough the next day. Having read this thread I'm amazed at how well you have all done, and it's helping me keep off the weed so thanks to everyone.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Well done Tealady and I think it is a week for AliOk too ??
sorry you didnt get your 'me' time last night Ali  hope you managed to get something to do this afternoon to take your mind off it ( was going to offer you some of my ironing pile to keep you going - now theres no need to swear :rotfl: )
I actually think losing my job has helped me to quit smoking as my daily routine has completely changed. Once again thanks Jo for starting this thread - I hadnt thought of packing in but you gave me the inspiration to try again. My silkquit thingy says ( drum roll please ) 6 days 20 hours and 55 minutes, 137 cigarettes not smoked, saved £33.95 and added 11 hours and 25 minutes to my life :T
I am not putting the extra money into savings or anything as I needed to cut back drastically but I have noticed that I am not going to the shops every day and not taking cash out every day too
Went to Tesco's this afternoon for some pain killers and magnums and was overcharged on the magnums so they gave me a full refund. I have only eaten 2 so far today - so much for giving up chocolate today too
Hope you are all managing alright today and good luck for next week:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
I caved in
I've had such a bad morning, had a chidminder lined up to take the kids for this week cos my normal childminder is still in hospital (hopefully coming out today :j ) but she bailed on me last minute this morning. Kids were ready, bags were packed, just about to leave the house when she let me down by text, BY TEXT  didn't even have the decency to ring me!!!
Panic stations, was due in work for a meeting at 9.30am. Rang my old childminder who luckily has been taking a break and so didn't have any kids there today and she said she would have them. Unfortunately in between the text message and ringing my old child minder I saw dh's fags sat on the table and had one
I feel sick inside, I was doing so well
I've put in my sig as this is day one but that's kinda lying as I've had one today so I'll leave it there till I complete a full day tomorrow.
Sorry to let you guys down, hope you're all doing ok?

Hi Jo
Been watching this thread with interest, I have stopped four times - unsuccessfully this year. I'm still determind to do it.
However I trip up in similar circumstances, don't even talk myself out of it - it's just an automatic action when things seem to be going haywire. Don't be cross with yourself, look how well you are doing and supporting everyone else too. It's just a hiccup.
You can do this. So can I !The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones. - Chinese Proverb

Thanks Jo
I'm going to go back to the beginning again but it was just one small hiccup as you say
Sorry Vindaveen, I was so wrapped up in my misery I forgot to say hello and WELCOME :T Good luck to you both, come back and give us updates!

Welcome FrugalJo :hello:
Dont be so hard on yourself Jo1972 - I didnt realise that you had managed to pack in 'cold turkey' with another smoker in the house, now that takes some will power :T . Bet it tasted disgusting though :rotfl: . Have you signed up to any of the smoking cessation services ? I have one of thoses inhalator thingies that I can use if it is all getting too much. Dont be too hard on yourself and you can still say that you have only had 1 cigarette in the last week which is a brilliant achievement.
A friend of mine ( who smokes ) phoned me on Saturday and wanted me to go round on Sunday but I avoided it as I dont feel that strong yet and I would definately end up smoking. There is no way I could pack in smoking whilst being near another smoker  .
Just keep thinking of the reasons you wanted to pack in and start again - it was only 1 cigarette and yes I know that can lead to another and another but only if you let it. You have done very well for the past week - dont get yourself down about it. Pat yourself on the back and as they say 'dont give up, giving up' Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Flippin' 'eck have I been so stupid, stupid today.
You'll see from my sig that I quit last October, was doing fine 'till last week, had that 'just one' (stupid!) off a mate. Made me feel light headed - but didn't feel a craving for another.
Last night had another 'just one'. (Stupid) This morning had the craving for 'something'. I've got appointments with hospital and CAB tomorrow- really stressed. So what does stupid me go and do? ....... bought 10 fags.
I'm disgusted with myself - I've smoked 6 of them.
Will go to town tomorrow to Boots to buy Niquiten Lozengers - are they still on offer? The chemist in the village sells them at full price only.
I'm so mad with myself:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -
hi guys
i am on day 32 ;-) wahoo
last 2 days have somehow managed to be the worse :-( its only 6.45pm and already i am contemplating going to bed just to get the day out of the way!
i ran outa the nasal spray on sat night, so ...chemist shut sunday and did not have £20 anyway, plus thhe works smoking clinic has stopped last week and the doc could not book me into their programme till NEXT mon (i asked last Mon!), anyway got some gum but aint quite hitting the spot. yesterday and today i have reallllly felt the withhdrawal symptoms from the spray and am thinking wow the last 30 days aint been withhdrawing at all given how much i am clucking today :-( i left work early cos i was sure the doc's smoking appt was today only and scraped up the money for the prescription WRONG the appt is NEXT monday, so been in a bad mood all day but now i am reallllly mad. i manage to remember the pin for my bank card for the savings account :-) get the money and now im on a high..able to see the end of the road.... out of thhe 2 chemists here not one had any arghhhhhhh now.... knowing that 1. i cant get any tonight, and 2. i cant get any prescribed until nenxt mon nite (the gp refuses to prescribe nrt now it is their smoking nurse only who will do it) insane i know... do i just ride it o ut (but god it dont feel good and i got a week at work) and keep to the patches and odd bit of gum (sounds a lot i guess but dont really hold me, or jus buy thhe nasal spray and put the withdrawals im going thhru now off till another day??/0 -
Hi all,
Thanks for the welcome notes, it's really appreciated.
Still going strong - I find being in work is a doddle - found it really hard last night after a couple of beers - I convinced myself the beer tasted different (which it does without a fag) and the taste was for the better, this got me through (strange I know).
Jo1972 - Don't beat yourself up about it, just carry on with the non smoking and try and learn from it. I can't believe you are doing it cold turkey...total respect for you especially being with someone who is still smoking. When I say learn from it, what I mean is try and prevent this happening again - maybe ask your DH??!!?? ( sorry I don't know who this refers to, is it daughter??) Anyway, whoever left the fags in full view, maybe ask if they can put in a place you cannot find. Have you thought about NRT, it really does help especially in situations you had this morning.
Don'tskipit - Try and think of the reasons you gave up in the 1st place, this may help, but do get something to take away cravings as you'll be back on them fulltime. Last year I came off them completley, had been off them for 4 months - then on holiday it was my birthday, my partner was still smoking, and what did I bloody do - I said I'd light a fag for him. Before I knew it I was on 20 a day at end of holiday and bought 400 duty free on plane!!!! It was the biggest regret as I've now got to start the NRT AGAIN for 8 weeks. It's soooo easy just to have the one. Good luck, don't put all the excellent work to waste. (I know it's easier said than done, but you have done it)
Fieryblondescot - Have they given you the MAX dosage of patch? This along with gum should help, but sounds as though it's not. I know this may sound really stupid but try breathing deeply in the fresh air and drinking a glass of water helps. Have you tried to get busy - do something that needs doing in the house that you've been putting off for ages??? This will take you mind off it. Day 32 is bloody fantastic, well done you!!
Remember......it's really hard to give up smoking - but it won't kill you.
Speak soon
Vindaveen x
PS. I can't believe how helpful people are on this sight - it's really good to know there are so many good caring people that really do care about others!!0
