  • Good morning!!

thank you all for your messages. :-)

i decided to wirte yesterday off as a really bad day, but woke up today with a new resolve, ran to boots got nasal spray plus today is pay day so i am happy that i dont have to spend money on fags and am loving seeing the money stretch further.

i think i jst got a bit overconfident with myself the other day, of course i wont feel the full force of withdrawal if i have patches AND nasal spray lol
so to go thru it just with stage 2 patches yesterday was a bit of a shocker. i think instead of itching to get off the patches i am gonna continue the full course as they recommend and only use the spray in times of extreme need, however i feel a lot safer just having it in my bag!!

with the helplines and stuff i think it is Active Stop (nicorette?) they have the most wicked automated helpline to call and it goes press 1 if your having a bad day, press 2 if you want to smoke etc, and the messages really are good, they also talk u thru a relaxation/visualisation teqnique that is extremely relaxing well worth signing up.

this board has been great also and its good to go thru it with other people too so BIG thank you guys. we will all be smoke free debt free and size 10 in no time!

Morning Sea, well done for getting this far :D I hope you AND your OH has a relatively stress-free day and you both manage to get through without smoking. Lol at you and OH's playground behaviour, me and DH are like that sometimes, I always win though ;) Are you trying any NRT or going cold turkey??

FBS, yay!! You're back on a roll!! It's so easy to become complacent and think you can cope so I think, especially in an addicts head, you almost want to challenge yourself into seeing if you're still addicted! Like I said in a previous post I gave up drinking last year and had to see a counseller who made me understand that once you've planted the seed, i.e. contemplated smoking/drinking/whatever then it takes something very strong to veer you off onto another path. So you are doing great :D :T

So, I think I might look into some kind of NRT, where do I go to get it cheap cos I have no money whatsoever till payday next week. Should I go for patches or something else? Don't fancy nasal sprays, makes me gag lol!

Any advice on which you prefer and why would be appreciated :)

Might go to the gym today, make me feel as though I'm working towards something.

    Have a nice day!

Well I rang up the local NHS cessation clinic where I work (London Borough of Southwark) and they said that as I work in the area I would be able to attend their clinics, either group or 1-2-1 therapy, plus I'm entitled to get the 8 weeks worth of prescriptions and only pay for 4. I have to go to the one near work cos I'm never around near my home one when it's open.

Unfortunately I have no money today :( so it will have to wait till tomorrow and I shall see if my dh has any spare so I can sort it out tomorrow. Just gonna have to grin and bear it tonight

Oops, how'd did the interview/vets go??

    Hello fellow quitters :hello:

I had my interview today and have had my cv put forward to 6 companies :T fingers crossed I get a job out of it. I actually didnt eat till dinnertime as I just didnt have time so I have just had my dinner and a choccie angel delight ( no magnums yet but Tescos is 24 hours ) went to the vets but got the wrong one :( so am trying to make the dog ill so that I can go back ;) Im sure she is a bit pale but then she is white :p I may need a second opinion as she might have post traumatic stress from the injection
No cigarettes smoked today but my friend that I have been avoiding is coming over tomorrow morning so I am a bit worried about the temptation because she smokes :o must be strong, must be strong.

Well done so far Sea78, have funny visions of you and your hubby having a scrap :p throw the ciggies out :naughty: you dont need them anymore :D

Glad to hear you got a nasal spray sorted out fieryblondescot and well done on getting to stage 2 :T does the nicorette helpline have an option for compulsive eating of chocolate ?

Well done on getting through day 1 Jo and good luck sorting out the smoking cessation clinic tomorrow. I use the patches and the inhalator, you can also use the patches with the gum, nasal spray or micro tabs but I dont like the gum or tablets and havent tried the nasal spray. They will go through all of the different options at the clinic. You have to fill in a form and have a carbon monoxide test. If its a 'drop in' clinic take a book just incase you have to wait.

Well done on packing in drinking cathybird :T

how is everybody else doing ???

    Morning all :D
I gave up drinking last July after a 2 week detox but started again at Christmas, it very slowly creeps up and up and before you know it you're back where you started, just like the smoking

totally agree – if you have a glass or two of wine with dinner you don't even notice how much you're drinking. Giving up (either booze or fags) is so obviously good for the health as well as saving money –!I feel miles better than I did two months ago & I reckon I'm saving £50 or £60 a month at least!!

Oops, hope your interview comes of something, I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Cathy, £50 quid a month is a huge amount of money to save!! I think I need to actually put the money away so I notice it.

Well coped fairly well today, had a wobbly moment when I got in the bath earlier but ate choklit instead :undecided

    Hope you're all doing ok?

Well had a bit of a morning....

Decided to go to the Pharmacy that Southwark PCT recommended and sign up to a stop smoking plan. Asked the Pharmacist if I could make an appointment and she asked when I planned to give up smoking, I said I've just given up and she said oh no I'm not eligable then?? Apparently you can only join a quit smoking plan if you are actually smoking at the time. So I told her a small white lie and said I only gave up when I woke up 2 hours ago and pretended I smoked yesterday but she said that she couldn't see me for 2 weeks anyway cos she's fully booked. Maybe think about making an appointment for a fortnights time and continue smoking till then ??????!!!!

I couldn't believe it, I'm still stunned. I rang Southwark PCT and told them what she'd said and told them that if the NHS are making such incentives for people to quit before the big 'smoke free' day then it might need re-jigging a bit lol!!

So went down to Boots at lunchtime and apparently they are not part of the scheme so I just got fed up with the whole thing and bought a pack of NiQuitin CQ's for £14.87. I've put one on and it's irritating me already I wanna scratch it off, I can see me getting fed up with them and putting the one's I've got left on ebay!!!

Still, day 2 and feeling very positive :D

How is everyone else doing?

    Hello Everyone!

Just been reading some of these inspiring posts as tomorrow is officially my quit day and would like to join the mutual support on here to read and relay my own and others' progress.

The longest I have gone with a fag is 6 days and I must admit, I felt great but then I lost my will and gave in to a fag, which tasted foul and great at the same time.

At the moment, I am armed with a new box of nicorette gum, but I would be interested to hear more about the nasal spray. What is it called, how much, where can I buy it and how does it work?

many thanks, and stay with it to all those on here!

    Suki

    Hiya Suki,

    Welcome and good luck!

I've not tried the nasal thing, not sure I fancy it myself but there are a couple of others on here that have used it as you've probably read, I'm sure they'll be along later to help!!

I've had my patch on for just over an hour and not sure if it's mind over matter but feel quite dizzy!! I had problems with the full strength patches when I tried them a few years ago and had heart palpitations and dizziness but found the lower step was ok, although at the time I was smoking 40 a day the higher patch was the one that was meant to be suited to me. The one I've got on now is for 10 a day or less, I've been smoking 20 a day so this should be ok but who knows, I feel totally stoned lol!!!

Good luck Suki, keep us updated!!
