That is the best analogy I have ever heard, A really huge well done to each and every one of you. I've been through the hell of giving up (7 months ago) so I have some inkling of how you feel, I just wanted to re-assure you that it will get easier and does get better.
Keep up the good work. :j:beer: Who knows where thoughts come from - they just appear!:beer:0 -
Evening all (two posts in one day for me, im doing well, lol)
Honeypie, thanks for the congrats, im pushing on and just trying to get to the 4 weeks now.
Not quite sure when i should say its been a month, does the quit meter show a month or keep showing weeks?
Guess im going to have to last that long to find out, lol.
I think it would be fab for someone to be able to tell us when we will not feel the urge anymore, Do andy Alan Carr experts know????????

I'm about to celebrate 5 months and yes, it does get easier. I don't think much about smoking at all now. I now realise I've even stopped using all the motivating things such as counting up how much I've saved. But I'm always aware that just one can put me back down the slippery slope.Beerworshipper wrote: »That is the best analogy I have ever heard, A really huge well done to each and every one of you. Hi everyone,
congratulations on all who have gone past the 4 week barrier, that is really well done.
Honeypie, you are doing so well & you will feel so sad if you give in now, I managed 10 days first time & as much as I thought I enjoyed the one that lured me back, to realise that I had just blown 10 whole days in one moment of weakness & 5 minutes of puffing like an old chimney got me down so much that I felt I was doomed to fail on my next attempt which I did after 6 days. It really is hard & horrible & your brain tells you how much better you will feel after just one & that just one will be ok, but believe me just one is all it takes to be dragged back into being a smoker again  . Keep going, counting each day as another day of your life you've gained back & if you cant find sour starburst try those fizzy cola bottles - they make you do what my DD calls a lemon face
. Another thing that helps me is to personalize cigarettes ie imagine that they are someone you really loathe & despise & would hide from to avoid an encounter; would you spend money on that person or put them in your mouth - eeeuuuu  .( and no, you cant imagine that you are setting fire to them in order to justify smoking a cigarette  )
Back to the grindstone tomorrow, keep your spirits up everyone
We will do it, we will, we will, we will

Hiya all - just a few words of encouragement to let you all know that it does get SOOOO much easier!!!
I am now on 10 weeks and 2 days
and I had to count them (using a diary
) to know exactly how long it has been...so I can pretty much say I have stopped counting every minute/hour/day/week/number of cigarrettes/money saved. I think that this in itself is a big acheivement.
We were away at Center Parcs this weekend and I can honestly say that I didn't even think about smoking all the time we were there. I could cycle and roller skate and swim with ease, and even when I did get out of breath it was just 'being out of breath' rather than that horrible burning sensation that you get in the back of your throat and your lungs when you are a smoker.
I didn't have to worry about going outside the lodge to smoke, or getting rid of the butts and cleaning soggy ashtrays, I didn't have to find a 'safe' place to smoke near to the pool or the sports hall and having the athletic people looking down their noses at me. I didn't worry when we spent 2+ hours cooped up in the car and I couldn't smoke. It was fantastic :T
I feel so free :j
You will stop thinking about smoking (for most of the time anyway - there will always be a whistful little hankering for a long lost 'friend') and when you do you will be as free as I am.
Keep up the good work everyone :Tplease listen to MFD - she is a wise woman

Puzzy - it will happen when it happens. There is no set time on it because it is down to the individual's thinking. No one can say when it is going to happen because it is just your brain telling you that you want a cig.
It could be today!
The book I read likened it to a phobia and explained it really well about someone with a phobia about dogs flinching whenever they saw a dog because they'd been bitten as a child. Now, as an adult, the phobia is completely irrational, but they still will not go near a dog. This is because the subconscious brain has made the link between dog and pain and its defences tell the concsious brain to run away from dogs.
Similarly, the subconscious brain has made the link between cigarettes and the relief from any slight feeling of anxiety or stress (CAUSED by the previous cigarette, BTW). This is the psychological addiction. When people get stressed, smokers immediately think of a cigarette, non-smokers don't.
You will be free when your subconcious brain breaks that link. When that will happen is not quantifiable.
Therefore, my personal belief is that the more you read, the more the brain will take in and help to break that link.
Hope we're all well and positive today :T :T :T
wonderful to read success stories. you're all doing well. Whatever stage you are at, keep going. The destination is worth the journey!:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0
