Hi everyone- this is really the place to be!! Sorry I haven't time to reply back to everyone but it is great to be welcoming more people.
Honey- yeah!!!!! Congrats on your first smoke free day.
I've managed to do my first ever no spend day today! If I can give up smoking then I can hopefully simplify my life a bit and cut down on my spending!
    Take care all

  • Isn't life funny? It occured to me today that this time last year stopping smoking was just a pipe (forgive the pun) dream and talking to people who'd quit I'd almost drool with envy at their "strength" - here I am - never thought I'd get here - can't put my finger on how (although this forum played a HUGE part) I did but I have and remain not complacent but confident. Anyone lurking thinking perhaps, maybe, or I'd love to - then give quitting a go - the reality is this time next year (or even tomorrow!) you could be where I am!
    Happy smoke free days.

    My debt is GOING DOWN!!!!
  • You are SO right IDA - I had a meeting today with people who I last saw when I was about 9 or 10 days in (and suffering desperately :o ) today when they asked 'how are you going with the not smoking?' I could proudly announce that I haven't been near one for 9 1/2 weeks - it felt SO good!

If there is anyone lurking please, please, please just set your mind in the right direction and just do it. One of the girls I work with was the one who really settled my mind into quitting...she just made sense when she talked about the need to stop for the sake of herself and those around her...I got my @rse into gear and went to the docs...she didn't...9 1/2 weeks later she is still smoking and I am well on my way to being permanently smoke free (but not complacent!) how fast does time fly?

There will NEVER be a perfect time to quit but believe me, the best time is now. :D

    Good luck everyone

    Evening All,

Ive not been on properly for a few days but have been reading from work.

Ive realised what my problem is with smoking, part of me still thinks its ok and justifies it, ie im stressed, im bored, it will help, everyone else does etc etc etc

Basically i need to teach myself that its not ok, anyone know the best way to train my brain, lol

Still surviving, 3 weeks tonight, ive not announced it to anyone really, just keep saying i dont want one, think i might have to update my face book status when i reach the month.

Feeling poo and demotivated, good job im skint lol

    Hello to all.

I want to give up smoking. And i want to o it badly. First a little story about my smoking life.

I first started when i was about 15/16 when i found a packet of fags in the street. Me and my mate decided we liked them so he'd buy fags and i'd smoke them. He could't afford them after a month or two so we quit. About two months later i was with friends when som-one started smoking and said "oh you don't smoke do you?" So i calmly took the fag and started smoking. I smoked after that for about 3 years. I managed to quit for about 3 months untill i started my very first job. Which is when i picked it up again.

The longest i quit for was 3 years after having my tonsills out (3 years ago). I tried to have a fag about 4 dyas later and didn't like it so i gave up for 3 whole years. I started again in december, basically down to peer pressure as this girl i was kinda seeing smoked (complictaed story). I have managed to give up for two weeks on the trot but as soon as i go to the pub on a saturday aftrernoon with the aforementioned girl i start smoking again.

I can normally manage to go again without fags after finishing my packet when i get home from the pub but this time i find myself struggling. I have to give up as £40-50 on fags a week is just bad!!!

So how do i continue to go pub ocassionally on a staurday and resist the urge?

I've found the best way to give up smoking is cold turkey and go to sleep for three days (bank holiday is always a good weekend to do this).

Keep essentials around the bed. But just prepare yourself for being in bed that weekend.

You wake up for work on the 4th day and the worst (I say the worst) is over. Then you just got to re-train yourself from all those times you automatically light up.... Smoking after a meal, smoking with alcohol etc...

Having said that I normally last about 8 months before starting again. I'm currently living in India and prices are a pound a pack. But when I get back to the UK, I'm definately quitting forever. It's just stupid now to be paying more an a fiver a pack.
